It appears to be beetle season on my local walk in Essex. I like the dent in this one's armour.

"The rosemary beetle (Chrysolina americana) is an attractive 8mm long metallic green beetle with purple stripes. Despite its scientific name, it is a native of southern Europe. During the last decade it has become an established pest in Britain on rosemary and lavender." - www.rhs.org.uk/research/projects/rosemary_beetle.asp

Rosmarin

(Rosmarinus officinalis)

I was at a friends house yesterday, working on building a shed. I took a break to visit the big rosemary plant he has in his yard. I wasn't the only visitor - many honeybees were also visiting. I didn't have a macro lens on at the time, so I made do with what I had. In Beaverton, Oregon.

Our minds bend,

And our fingers fold.

Entwined, we dream.

I know.

Time shifting.

We discover the entry,

To other planes.

Time shifting.

As we collide with the energy,

In other worlds.

Stay with me,

As we cross the empty skies.

Come sail with me.

We play in dreams,

As we cross the space and time.

Just stay with me.

COLEOPTERA > POLYPHAGA > Chrysomelidae (Leaf Beetles) >

Chrysomelinae (Broad-nosed Leaf Beetles) > Doryphorini

____________________________________________________

This colourful little beetle is native to southern Europe. The first record in Britain was in Surrey in 1963. By 2004/05 it had spread east into Kent and west as far as Wiltshire. Today it can be found right across the south east of the country and up into the Midlands, with further records into the west country and as far north as the Scottish borders. Gardeners usually regard it as a pest as it does have a liking to rosemary (hence its name), lavender, sage and thyme particularly.

Hmm, until 2017, it was known by the scientific name Rosmarinus officinalis, now a synonym of Salvia rosmarinus .

What was wrong with Rosmarinus?!

and why Rose-Mary? :-)
