This theater opened in summer 1947. By the late 1970s it had become an adult theater for a while then quit showing films altogether, then it operated as a playhouse throughout the 1980s, a church from 1993 to 1995, and a concert venue from 1996 to the early 2000s.

Riverview opened in 1913 and had 4,630 patients at its peak in 1950.[1] In January 2009, only 256 active beds remained, in early 2012 only 3 wards remained containing less than 50 patients and as of mid June 2012 only 2 wards remain. The final two wards closed on Friday the 13th of July, 2012.

September 27 marked a unique astrological event -- a Supermoon Eclipse. (You can also see Wired for an informative article and video clip.) The event was noteworthy because it combined a full moon, lunar perigee (or ''Supermoon''), and a total lunar eclipse (also known as a ''Blood Moon''). I was excited to witness this special event, but disappointed to see a heavy cloud covering when I stepped into our backyard. Fortunately, there were occasional breaks in the clouds -- though I wasn't able to get very good photos with my iPhone or Canon, since neither has a high-powered lens. I took this shot during during the height of the total lunar eclipse, using the zoom function on my iPhone. You can see the reddish hue of the moon, though the photo didn't come out very clearly since my iPhone only has a digital (and not optical) zoom...
