The Mayor of Irving Street is no more. That old orange cat never roamed far from his stoop, and became as regular a face on the block as the crossing guard at 14th, or the guy selling the morning Post from a plastic chair at the side of the road...
So now there's a memorial on the sidewalk, with items added from people around the neighborhood. It's funny, touching, and sad... but typifies why I love this neighborhood. This never would have happened in bloody Silver Spring. Anyway...

He's ready to cut tanks in half with his magical gun blade. I couldn't build him the battery backpack that charges the blade because his huge beard is in the way.
(not the people)
A friend of mine walks along the American River at Sutter's Landing. In his spare time, and with a handsaw, a hammer, and some nails, hand crafted this bench (and one other) on the river bank with materials found laying onsite. He made these last week.
Every time he's been back to walk his dog, someone is enjoying the benches.
Until today, when the County Parks Dept., dismantled and removed them, due to "a complaint".
Is this what we've become???
