At the school where I work, I've been playing the part of 'coloring book page artist.' I flip a minute timer over and whoever is being the quietest, I draw them a picture of whatever they want...it's usually pretty standard stuff...boys want jets, fire trucks, panthers(?) and the girls usually want barbie, unicorns, or ballerinas. But today...a complex 4 year old boy asked me to make a "Ripped Cape."
"What do you mean?"
"A super hero cape with a rip on it on the floor."
I just found out today that my parents had to make the heartbreaking choice
to help Pogo across the Rainbow Bridge
today. He was 15 and had diabetes which he was being treated for. He was
such a trooper and was so good taking
his meds.
The past few days he went down hill
pretty quickly and his quality of life
was degrading very fast:( This morning
he could hardly walk and his belly was
swollen with fluid:( My mom spent all
day with him saying goodbye and my
Dad took him at 4:45 to the vets and
stayed with him until the end...Pogo
crossed over in peace and love, and
I know his canine brother Bear, who
we ironically lost 4 yrs ago yesterday,
was there to greet him and they are both
happy and hanging out together like
used to:)
This photo is my very favorite that I
took of him when he was young and
healthy....our blue panther!! RIP
sweet Pogo Pal....you will be deeply
missed by us all!!
Came home after a day of errands and found that he passed away in his sleep :(
Ironically Ebichu who appears in a bit worse for the wear compared to Uchi is still behaving very active ^^; (Not complaining!) Ebichu has lost some weight and has more white fur on her ^^;
Best known as the Union Square carrot peeler peddler, or a slice of NYC, who has been sighted for 15 years peddling his wares - always dressed in a suit and tie, with wild white hair, calling out in a Mancunian accent, a never-ending and thoroughly entertaining sales patter, as he enthusiastically and very speedily shaved through tubs of never-diminishing carrots and potatoes. At $5 a pop, It's anyone's guess how many he sold, though as has been reported by Vanity Fair, he was astonishingly well off.
Anyone who has ever lived in New York would know of this gentleman, and as a New Yorker, you get pretty attached to your street characters or "crazies" for lack of a better word, especially when you sight them at familiar locations still doing their thang, year after year after year after year.
This photo is from my first digital camera (a.k.a Spycam, which was probably 0.1 megapixel) and was maybe from a time he sold books before moving on to his legacy - the less heavy veggie peeler. The peelers were unremarkable-looking with no bells or whistles, but his presence was undeniably charismatic, as was his amazing demonstrations and ability to sell something to people who probably already had two in their kitchen drawers.
The Best Peeler In The World! sold to you by The King Of New York Hacks!

If you go down in the woods today,
You're in for a big surprise.
If you go down in the woods today,
You'll hardly believe your eyes.
For all the bears are hiding away,
And nobear wants to come out to play.
Today's the day the hunters shot dead Bruno.
Thank You Mercedes Benz. My wife is in a lot of pain but we all survived the collision. The kids were in the back seat, they were not harmed at all. We feel very lucky!
Saving bye to an old mate tomorrow, (Wed).
Keith Savage, I met Keith soon after transferring to South Yorkshire Ambulance Service from LAS in 1979.
Worked with Keith a lot in the 80's & early 90's, we were based at Longley Ambulance Station and shared many a car ride to & from work as he lived near me. Hot chillies & London pie meals on station were a fav on night shifts.
I taught Keith to sail at Rother Valley Country Park, we were the first ever to completely sink a Wayfarer sailing dingy!
Keith transferred back to workshops (he was a qualified mechanic) whilst I went on to become a Paramedic and moved across to Middlewood Station.
We would then meet each other at workshops whenever I broke a vehicle or something on it!
Saw him just a couple of weeks before he died, he was planning on retiring this year.
Thoughts & prayers are with his wife Linda and the family..
RIP mate!
Picture taken of us at my first Long Service award late 90's.. (I now have three Long Service Awards!)
We went for a walk to one of our local fish suppliers on Sunday and saw this little fella. Due to the loss of our Purple & orange fighting fish, we couldn't resist how unique this one looks being red and transparent. We got a Nano Cube tank for him too.
my uncle Jason. he was 32, and more of a father than an uncle. i loved him so much.
the funeral was today, hence the picture.
