Rick hosted a little poker night where the buy-in was twenty bucks and a pack of diapers for the baby he (well, his wife Melissa) is about to have. I did a lot better than I was expecting to! I almost didn't lose money! But the important thing is that I had fun and ate too many hot dogs.

Also did a shoot with Ren earlier in the day and was able to try out my new 4x5 monorail camera.

There was another fire in Downtown Des Moines over the weekend. This time it was the Equitable Building, which is being renovated into apartments and condos. The fire was contained on the first few floors which received heat and water damage. Rick was one of the many firefighters on the scene and was gracious enough to pose for a quick portrait. Thanks Rick and thank you to all the brave firefighters who put their lives on the line for us.

“What is Creative Mondays?

Monday’s are always a drag. The start of a new week, you have to go back to that routine of going to bed early/get up early. If (like me) you have to commute then you prepare for that long journey into work and that long journey back for the first time after a nice two day break.

So to kick off those lousy Mondays, I’m going to get my creative mind flowing in a positive way. Creative Mondays. A chance for me to show off something unfinished or finished that I’ve been working on throughout the previous week.”

I’m a pretty crazy ‘Walking Dead’ fan and I’ve been meaning to create something inspired by the show for some time. Season 4 just finished and I put some time aside to draw one of my favourite characters, Rick Grimes.

This started out as a sketch in my notebook from a couple of reference photos I found on the web. I scanned the sketch and added the colouring, any finer details (blood, scratches etc…) and background all within Photoshop.

Rick Kanne of Omaha won $150,000 playing Powerball from the Nebraska Lottery! Rick had just arrived in Las Vegas on vacation when he discovered he'd won! "It's a great way to start a weekend in Las Vegas," he said. Congrats, Rick!
