A lone cluster of pear blossoms shoots out from the lower trunk of a Bradford Pear tree, atypically, inexplicably, and alone. One photo a day. (92/366) Bayside, Queens, NYC -- April 1, 2020
We're more than 1/4 through 2020 now.
These little flowers are the floral emblem for the Australian Capital Territory, called the Royal Bluebell (Wahlenbergia gloriosa). This little patch survives right next to our front driveway. From December 2019 to the end of January 2020, they endured drought, searing heat, a hail storm with hail the size of golfballs and gale force winds bringing a dust storm. Yesterday, they survived 60 millimetres of rain. The quintessential survivor !!

I am a big fanboy of sea stacks. These isolated outcrops of vertical rocks speak to my lunacy. I can almost hear them wail a hymn to evade pain as their eroding resilience stands up to the ocean's constant and often violent hammering. Most have no face (some though do), but they all have stories. Some speak of the sunsets they have witnessed, while others narrate attrition imposed by rip tides of time. These sea stack tales float like mist in the salty sea breeze; if you care, you could easily pluck out a few for your soul.
I have photographed many sea stacks, some famous and others beautiful. There are many more sea stacks I would like to visit; some are far, some very far. But closer to home, in Bandon, Oregon, I had the privilege of meeting many sea stacks (above) that stood tall together, without a damn concern for the outcome of time.

If ever there was a tree in perfect harmony with it's surroundings, it has to be this one in Kilbear Park. Roots have reached deep into cracks of gneiss rock to seek moisture and a firm grip. It's trunk and branches rise up to the sun but brace themselves against a persistent and often powerful westerly wind. Probably the most photographed tree in the park, to me it speaks of resilience and determination.
We returned here three or four times when camping in the park a couple of weeks ago - on each occasion hoping for the perfect light and sky to compliment such a marvel of living things. That didn't quite happen - at least to my eye. Here, the light was hard and intense but there was so much detail in that little cloud, I had to try it in black and white.
in this place of raw emotion--my soft spots revealed--do i have the resilience to stay present and unguarded? i’m not sure, but that’s my intention: stay open to everything life offers; send love to everybody (including myself). resilience means grieving mom while living my life with an open heart. resilience, like courage, isn’t being tough or hardened, it’s being honest, gentle, open, and strong.

Starting to plan for a return trip to Cornwall so I thought I would have a look back through some old images, found this gathering Pixel dust on the hard drive, for some reason I had not done anything with it.
Taken after a long drive down to Cornwall in the tail end of a storm, i was a little surprised to encounter mist and a gale

Not too long ago, I rode along the intimate road of West Lake on Thursday and observed many changes in this place. I heard that the local government has approved the construction of an opera house project near the lake. In this image, which my friend captured and of us standing here, you can see the area where the opera house will be built. I’m unsure about what will happen or how this will affect the area in the future once in the opera house has been completed?
I truly love this place and feel a deep emotional affection to it. West Lake belongs to everyone - to me, to the local people living around it and to many couples. I’m posting this content I like and with no offense intended. I will cherish the soul, beauty and traditional culture that this place represents. 😔
Certainly, cultural values often face challenges over time. I hope that West Lake will develop while preserving its tradition, culture and environment. Because this place is a part of me, cheers!! 😄

Have a nice weekend, everyone!
As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler; solitude will not be solitude, poverty will not be poverty,
nor weakness weakness. Henry David Thoreau
la résilience. (english translation below). ¶. Last weekend, the day of my son's birthday, Halloween, we were at the garden center buying flowers to plant at the grave site of where my husband's parents are buried. In France, it's the All Saint's Day tradition to visit, wash, clean, and plant flowers at the graves of those whom we have lost. I was wandering through the aisles, stumbling upon the bulbs and tubers, being seduced by the "Queen of the Night" tulips, and those voluptuous amaryllis bulbs, with the lusty promise of flowers in a few weeks. Then I saw tiny Naples cyclamens, a delicate variety that grows wild here. A closer look revealed that several of them were already flowering. Against all odds, being un earthed and placed in plastic bags, they found the fortitude, the wisdom, and the grace to bloom. They were meant to flower. That is what they were created to do. And in our own way, so were we.
"Black-eyed Susans are known for being highly adaptable and for surviving just about anywhere. They’re resilient plants that can thrive even in inhospitable environments. This beautiful wildflower last incredibly long, growing in front yards, roadsides, and even in pavement cracks. They have become perfect symbols of resilience, motivation and encouragement."
While most of my Black-eyed Susans are wilted or empty of their petals, the odd one is still looking quite nice. The end of their season is here though...I can't believe it is just about the end of September...I must've blinked!
Thanks for your visit! I hope you had a good day.
This is my last picture of the year, and the title says it all. No matter what tradition it is made in, it is the togetherness and love that counts! Please keep the love going for our children's sake in 2025. Please don't lose it; it is the most important thing in our life.
This photo was taken on my cell phone by one of my family members. I don't know who to give credit to, but BRAVO to whoever took it, you created a photo of the year. Thank you, and thank you, my family, for everything!
With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, stay safe, and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️
My favourite local tree is still there, still clinging on for all it's worth and still being battered by the elements on a daily basis. If only humans were this resilient.

She knows there's people watching
The building fronts are just fronts
To hide the people watching her
She once fell through the street
Down the manhole in that bad way, he-ey
The underground drip
It's just like her scuba days

Woodpeckers are often seen as symbols of resilience, perseverance, and tapping into one's inner strength, particularly in the context of spiritual and personal growth. Their persistent drumming can be interpreted as a reminder of the power of focus and determination, while their role in nature highlights their connection to the heartbeat of the natural world.
This one was way up there - not a very sharp image.
