I was sitting on the dock when this young lady came by to capture a photo on her phone. Naturally I just had to capture a photo of her capturing the photo on her phone.
Italy, pizza, “Portobello”, thin pizza with a golden brown crusty border, outside crunchy, inside soft, topped with pizza sauce, buffalo mozzarella & grated Appenzeller cheese, Portobello mushrooms, rosemary.
Italian Pizza should be baked at temperatures between 360°C - 575°F & 426°C - 800°F, best in a pizza wood-fired brick oven by placing them on the very hot oven stone floor. If the oven dome has the above mentioned baking temperature, the oven floor will typically be cooler than that temperature.
📌...This very tasty variant of the brown mushroom came from America via the Netherlands to Europe, also known as a “Grill-Mushroom”.
The Portobello becomes a giant mushroom thanks to a special cultivation method. The mushroom has a large cap measuring 6 to 12 cm in size with a small stalk. The fins on the underside of the hat are brown in colour & clearly visible. The flesh is brown & very firm good for grilling, without the stalk also for stuffing & baked in the oven, also great as a tempura etc. etc.

Etymologically, the term “Picea or Piza” first appeared in the Neapolitan dialect around the year 1000 & meant something like "push, jolt" & thus probably referred to the hand movement when lifting the pizza with a pizza turning peel out of the oven.
Tomatoes were first introduced to Italy from South America in 1522. At first the tomato was believed by the poorer peasants to be poisonous, fortunately they farmers overcame their doubts about tomatoes in the 17th century & started adding it to the bread dough,…focaccia was created & became the "gran, gran, gran mother" of today's pizzas.
Mozzarella had become available in Italy after water buffalos were imported from India in the 7th century, but its popularity grew very slowly until the last half of the 18th century. Like the growing acceptance of tomatoes, mozzarella cheese was slowly gaining ground too. But the cheese & tomatoes did not meet on a pizza until 1889 when Don Raffaele Esposito, an Italian tavern owner developed a pizza featuring tomatoes, mozzarella cheese & basil, components bearing the colours of the Italian flag. He named it "Pizza Margherita", after the Queen of Italy, Margherita Teresa Giovanni.
Italy unified in 1861, King Umberto I & Queen Margherita visited Naples in 1889, legend has it that the traveling pair became bored with their steady diet of French haute cuisine & asked for an assortment of pizzas from the city’s Pizzeria Brandi.
In the late half of the 19th century, Italians migrated to North-America & with them their pizza bread recipe from Naples, replicating their trusty, crusty pizzas in New York & other American cities, relatively quickly, the flavours & aromas of pizza began to intrigue also non-Italians.
Beginning of the 20th century, Italian immigrants begun to open their own bakeries & were selling besides groceries as well pizza. The first documented United States pizzeria was Gennaro Lombardi’s, licensed to sell pizza in 1905 on Spring Street in Manhattan, a part known as “Little Italy” Lombardi’s, is still in operation today, however, no longer at its 1905 site, but has the same oven as it did originally. Pizza as we know & the world likes took the United States by storm before it became popular in its native Italy
Especially in the 50th, pizza’s popularity in the United States boomed & no longer seen as an Italian folkloric treat, it was increasingly identified as fast & fun food. Regional, decidedly non-Neapolitan variations emerged, eventually including California-gourmet pizzas topped with anything from barbecued chicken to smoked salmon.
Post-war pizza finally reached Italy & beyond their borders also influenced by the starting tourism. Like blue jeans, rock & roll, fast food etc. the Italians & the rest of the world picked up on pizza just because it was "Americano"…easy to eat, fast & tasty.
📍 …So actually pizza the way we like it is an "Italo-American" creation.
I personally like the pizza thin with a nice crunchy crust, fresh & hot with the particular flavour only a pizza right out of a pizza wood-fired brick oven has, sprinkled with a little oregano & a drizzle of Calabrian native olive oil, …but there is a pizza for each & everyone's age, taste & favours.

With any luck, there will never be a day I stop shooting Laura.
Don't shoot her like I used to, lots of faces out there, lots of folks need their picture taken, but that don't mean we don't hang out, don't mean when I see her I don't need to whip my camera (whatever camera I've got on hand) out and snap a few.
Got me some nice new (to me) point & shoot cameras, so I'll probably be doing a lot more whipping out, feels good to carry around a light camera, something easy and small, fits right into my hand, not much to fiddle with, keeps the bag strap from grinding down on my shoulder.
Naturally, looking at 'em all, I figure I've got the right amount of cameras, don't need any more, and if fortune favors me, that feeling will last at least a good three weeks.

I just now finished the Daphne dress I was working on so this is just a quick pic. Ill be taking better ones tomorrow but I felt proud of my work for once so I wanted to share right away.

Something quite different for me, coz I don't do birds!
A black Swan, Mr and MRS Blackbird, sparrow, an Ostrich in the Cape, South-Africa
And a Cormorant in PADSTOW, Cornwall.
This Cormorant had been delighting me with its dives and popping up when it flew onto the sandbank and took this pose, I gather to dry its feathers?
They are coastal rather than oceanic birds, and some have colonised inland waters.
They range around the world, except for the central Pacific islands.
They are fish-eaters, dining on small eels, fish, and even water snakes.
They dive from the surface, though many species make a characteristic half-jump as they dive, presumably to give themselves a more streamlined entry into the water.
Under water they propel themselves with their feet.
Some cormorant species have been found, using depth gauges, to dive to depths of as much as 45 meters.
After fishing, cormorants go ashore, and are frequently seen holding their wings out in the sun; it is assumed that this is to dry them.
Unusually for a water bird, their feathers are not waterproofed.
This may help them dive quickly, since their feathers do not retain air bubbles. (info Wikipedia)

A quick trip into Nottingham gave me the opportunity to add to my stranger tally. Spotting some bright green hair on a lady standing outside a shop looking like she was on her break I decided to head over and ask if she’d be a stranger. This lady did indeed work in the shop we were outside but she declined, saying she really didn’t like having her picture taken. She then said I should go inside and ask Lexi as she would almost certainly agree to having her picture taken and she then pointed through the window to indict which of the staff was Lexi.
As you can see Lexi did agree and we nipped outside to take her portrait as the interior of the shop was quite dark. As Lexi needed to get back inside quickly, she was working, I asked her to stand by one of the windows slightly side on so that my reflection didn’t appear in the glass. I took a few fast shots and then we headed back inside so she could continue to work while I asked a couple of questions.
Lexi told me she’d been working in the shop for five years but was also a student at university where she was taking an art course. I asked if she specialized in a particular type of art and she said metal, explaining she designed and made jewellery. I asked if making jewellery would be her ideal job and she said possibly, but she hadn’t quite made her mind up what career path to follow yet.
I wondered what Lexi couldn’t live without and she said music, going on to say she enjoyed all kinds of music.
Finally I asked how Lexi would describe herself in one word and this caused her to ponder a while, struggling to come up with an answer. The male shop assistant standing by us quickly shouted out ‘friendly’ and that was the word we settled on.

A quick half hour photo walk at lunch time today to stretch the legs. I keep having the idea of shooting the many interesting older apartment blocks around Liverpool. I kind of like this image from today.

As all good friterie seemed closed, we ended up at Quick for burgers. Indeed, fast ordering, but the food is not high quality.

This 4x4 trail begins along Mineral Creek and climbs quickly through the forest to rewarding vistas before passing waterfalls on the way to Clear Lake.
Walking past this paperbark, the lorikeets and a very defensive mudlark took to the air.
I took a couple of really quick snaps with my phone and left them to it.
A quick run to my parents' place this weekend meant there was an opportunity for a short photo break, and that was exactly what I did, this time with more bokeh added, and with lenses, I haven't used in quite some time, or never before, even.
Taken with Panasonic GX7 digital mirrorless camera and adapted smc Pentax-M 135mm F3.5 manual telephoto lens on no-name K-m43 adapter. Wide-open aperture, at minimal focusing distance to have as much bokeh as possible. Not bad!

These crazy signs have suddenly sprung up all over the place in our neighborhood, on straight stretches of road.
What ever do they mean?

. . . Hoffmaster State Park used to have a Trillium Festival every spring, but increasing numbers of White Tailed Deer brought that to an end, since their population boom resulted in the deer eating all of the flowers!
I took a quick drive through the park this morning and only spotted 3 or 4 of them, this one close to the Nature Center where aluminum pie plates dangling from strings scare away the deer!
