If youâre a craft drinks fan you may already have heard some things about Ireland based Glendalough Distillery, but if not - please allow me to enlighten you. Based in County Wicklow, Glendalough (âGlen Of The Two Lakesâ), and established in 2011, Glendaloughâs aim (according to the guys behind the distillery) is to 'recapture Irelandâs lost heritage of great spirit productionâ. Having not been around for hundreds of years I canât really tell if you if theyâre succeeding in this area or not. But what I can tell you is that they make a bloody exciting range of gins. Foraged gins!
"What the feckâs a foraged gin?!", I hear you asking? Good question. To cut a long story short, a few years ago 4 Irish dudes with ZERO experience in spirit production decided to start a distillery. Fast forward a few years - theyâd bought themselves a Holstein still, learnt how to use it, and were starting to make gin, amongst other things (and by âother thingsâ I mean poitin, that ancient Irish spirit, and whiskey...). Anyhow, one of the guys happened to cone across an article about Wicklow based forager Geraldine Kavanagh - a dunedain type figure who, by all accounts, spends the majority of her time out in the wilderness, gathering the many edible things that grow out in the Irish countryside. FYI thatâs Geraldine in the dress and one of Glendaloughâs founders, Gary, in the t shirt.
Glendalough and Geraldine came to an agreement that for each new season, theyâd make a new gin - and Geraldine would go and pick a new range of botanicals to go with it. So, four times a year, Geraldine comes back with whateverâs growing out there (which obviously, changes). As for the food and venue - some of the guys at Glendalough had flown over to London, holding a tasting/dinner at the Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings in Clerkenwell. The meal you see is 'Last Libationsâ - a recurring event where the guys behind the Bourne & Hollingsworth buildings invite interesting folks from the drinks industry to ponder the question of what their last drink on earth would be. The result of this is, usually, some fascinating insights into lesser known spirits brands, plus a dinner paired with various cocktails made from said obscure spirits brands. Yes, itâs a lot of booze - but thereâs also plenty of delicious food from Chef Adam Gray to soak it up.

GM: Do you practice any kind of yoga or meditation? BK: I call The Work "mental yoga." And it is meditation. I invite people to meditate on each of these four questions. For example, if you are believing "He doesn't care about me," and are meditating on the third question (How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought?), in that silence you begin to notice the feelings and emotions that occurred in that situation. You feel them rise from within, and mental images show you how you treat others and yourself when you believe that thought. With the fourth question (Who would you be without that thought?), people come to see what it would be like to experience a stressful situation without the thought that is creating the stress in the first place. It's truly amazing to see what is revealed in that quietness. It can be life-changing! Imagine how it would feel, what kind of person you would be, how you'd be treating other people and yourself, if you didn't believe your negative judgment of that person.
GM: What is your daily spiritual practice? BK: To love without exception.
