I only learned today that there is such a thing as a Question Mark Butterfly. This one surprised me as butterflies were certainly not on my mind since it's February. But again, this is Georgia, so you never know!

btw the question mark is in the underside of the butterfly, with a curve and a dot on one of the wings.

For those who ask themselves such questions, no, I am not as small as it seems here.

That question was heard several times on our drive through a handful of small towns in Western Pa. on Saturday. When we told people it was a Lamborghini they all said "oh yeah". It's a lot of fun introducing people to the Aventador and seeing there reaction as our group of exotics drove by.

The droplets from the thrashing tail of the fish form an almost perfect '?' in the air.

This Great Crested Grebe must be a juvenile, I think, as it was relatively unsuccessful in its fishing attempts. Usually, they bring up a fish every 10 - 20 dives. This bird made at least 50 dives before surfacing with the Perch in question.

One has to move carefully when stalking a fishing Grebe - they get easily spooked by movement on the bank and swim away - I have learned to only move whilst they are underwater and remain very still when they are on the surface, even if they are 20 metres away.

They usually know where the bathrooms are.

I don’t normally place much belief in dreams, but this time it was so powerful I actually got out of bed to start working on it before I forgot. I was “told” that I had to create several images that are black and white (not monochrome) with the emphasis on white, framed, contain people, and a bit of color. Oh yeah, the titles had to start with L, M, F, B, Q, or A (that’s the order I was given). After a couple of days, this collection is what I came up with. I also threw in a couple starting with S and T just for shits and giggles.

Meh, yet another Great Egret, Ardea alba, in flight against an overcast sky, no better than several I have already posted. However, it’s very encouraging as a proof of concept, because I got it with my brand new Fujifilm X-T5 on my first outing.

Manual exposure; one frame from a 7fps burst; following the subject at 300mm; continuous back button autofocus set for bird tracking; saved as RAW and HEIF on UHS-II cards; uploaded to the Cloud with my old SD card adapter, processed from HEIF in Photos on iPad; cropped from 40MP to 3, for a 6000mm full-frame equivalent reach.

Several questions remain to be answered, haven’t got a slick workflow. Had to sit on a park bench for a while and search the manual on my phone to figure out how to invoke burst mode. 😜

And tell me truly, men of earth,

If all the soul-and-body scars

Were not too much to pay for birth.

Robert Frost's poem seen through Helios 44M-7 wide-open.

the light carves a sharp question mark on the old asphalt. he steps into it, a figure caught between the vast, consuming dark and an uncertain path ahead. his gesture is an unspoken plea, a silent weighing of invisible burdens. where the shadows end, and the journey begins anew, he stands. a solitary soul at a crossroads of time and choice, the city's indifferent hum his only witness. it is a moment of profound, quiet decision.

Thank you all of you for your visits, comments, will continue to catch up slowly :-)

from rilke: “try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books written in a foreign language. do not look for the answers. they cannot now be given to you because you could not live them. it is a question of experiencing everything. at present you need to live the question. perhaps you will gradually, without even noticing it, find yourself experiencing the answer.”

A few weeks ago, I put a question out inquiring about interest in a Shenandoah National Park Flickr meetup in October. I was thrilled at how many people expressed an interest.

I got some great news today, with the unfortunate side effect of messing up the potential October meetup plans.

My brother is coming home from Iraq!!! I'm not sure what weekend, but it will be one of the last three weekends of October. I need to leave those weekends open, so I can be sure to be there to greet him.

Perhaps another local flickrite might take of the helm of planning? I know I'll still be in the park a lot shooting this fall, I just don't know exactly when.

the city speaks in lines and angles, in the stories cast by sunlight on stone. here, a figure moves between realms—half in the dark, half in the glow. the shadows stretch like questions unanswered, and the pavement catches the memory of footsteps. silence. movement. contrast. this is the poetry of the streets.

...

2nd day of my work shop with Bertrant Meunier.

The subject will be the same as the day before: The boundaries of the city.

The day before, treated in black and white, my series evoked the sordid but endearing of these along the railway tracks penetrating our towns nearby. With its limitations borderline, and populated objects of our waste, our losses and our profits borders.

Date, will be discussed dictatorial outskirts of our cities:

Flat, smooth metal, asphalt and painted lines in every direction,

intersections pompous and heartbreaking, arrowings rudimentary and authoritarian, facades of anonymous and ambitions as a cold blue winter sky. ...

A litany.
