The Lantz'scher Park near the airport has a size of 17 hectares and is one of the most remarkable parks in the city because of the many old trees. It was created in 1860 around the residence of the Lantz family. It was designed by the landscape architect Joseph Weyhe Clemens, whose famous father Maximilian Friedrich Wehye designed numerous parks in Duesseldorf such as the "Hofgarten" in the city center and the "Schlossgarten" in Benrath..

The mansion of the Lantz family is still in the park, which was acquired by the City of Duesseldorf in 1972. The park was redeveloped and sculptures were added.

Polygonia interrogationis

I was on my back patio looking out into the garden when I happened to look down at my largest Butterfly Bush. There was this lovely Question Mark. There was only enough time to snap off one quick shot before it flew away.

I was struck with the question: what ever happened to the author, Dedreux? Was the recipient of the card, William F Michalske, considering a move to Germany? I'm not certain of the details, but as it turns out, the author was Henry W. Dedreux, and he was writing home to one of his friends. They were listed among the dozen residents of the Euclid Union Club of Cleveland at 1211 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, Ohio according to the 1940 U.S. Federal Census.

I don't take this piece in my ephemera collection lightly. It is haunting. I don't think I've ever walked away from it without an overwhelming appreciation for the freedom I'm able to enjoy every day. Our forefathers had the insight to put checks and balances in place in our government for the protection of this democracy, but we are not immune to falling for a lie. When I see this postcard, I'm reminded that I am responsible for what I allow my government to do or not do. It's a stark reminder that we are more easily deceived than we would ever like to believe.

New Mexico has an official state question - "Red or Green?". It's a question commonly heard at restaurants here, where waiters will ask customers "red or green?", meaning what kind of chile do they want with their burrito or enchilada. If you're undecided (maybe new to that restaurant or haven't tried their red yet), or you're just visiting and have no idea, you can order "Christmas" and get red and green.

So when you see a scene like this and you think "chile" you're either a New Mexican, you're on your way to becoming a New Mexican, or maybe you're just hungry.

Time for breakfast, maybe I'll have one of those green chile bagels...

Question: "what would you want to be your next big achievement?"

Answer:" retirement really isn't on my radar, and so when that does come, I would like to not just go home and sit on the couch with the dogs, but to still be an effective part of my community, even though I'm not working. I don't know what god has in store for me, I'm open to it. Whenever it comes to it , I'm happy."

I've been getting lots of links back to this picture from different tumblr sites, especially this one.

Nowww, I don't know anything about tumblr, and it kind of confuses me what's going on when i try to figure out if they're using it as a background or posting it for fun or whatever. I don't really mind I guess, but is this normal?

Just wondering!!

I didn't notice this until I'd downloaded the images from my camera. I love visual surprises.
