My responses to Emily Falconbridge's 52Q challenge prompts: embers.typepad.com/

Question 13: What was my worst (or best?!) hairstyle experience to date?

A: One of my favourite hair moments was when I had a soft red over-all colour over the top of my old blonde highlights. They went a peachy, coral shade that reminded me of fudge!

Question 14: What was the last good book you read?

A: Apples by Richard Milward

Audience questions at the forum covered such subjects as the politics surrounding the translation of the Koran and the homogenization of Muslim women.

getting ready for x-mas postings ...

each year I like to offer a special gift to my folks in addition to the "commercial" ones ... depending on my head ... knitted stuuf, jewelry, paintings, notebooks, homemade clothes etc etc etc ...

I am doing a a journal jar for my niece . She loves writing ... those are some of the 365 questions tags I am supposed to put in the jar ... I may cheat a little ... 'not sure she will count them ... :)

actually I prepared some blank ones for the whole family to write down some questions ...

For Immediate Press Release

Wenonah High School host 2017 Male Summit

Interim Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr and the City of Birmingham’s Violence Reduction Team partnered with Wenonah High School today to present the 2017 Male Summit. The focus of this year’s summit was to inspire male students to make better decisions. Some of the speakers during today’s summit were Eric Wynn (WAR) x Ed (Big E) Johnson x Birmingham City Schools Board Member (District 5) Randall Woodfin x AVE Shabazz and Gerrel Jones.

Eric Wynn posed a profound question today to nearly 300 male students of Wenonah High School. “Raise Your Hand if Your Goal in Life is to Go to Prison?” As young males looked around the audience, Wynn knew that he had their attention. Not a single student raised their hands, but many looked around to see if anyone would raise their hand. Pushing the conversation, Wynn explained that he along with others on the panel were there to show them that they cared.

“I Want to Be Your Big Brother… I spent 10 years in prison and I’m here to make sure that you guys don’t make the same mistakes” ~ Eric Wynn

Ed Johnson (Birmingham Violence Reduction Task Force) shared his testimony of doing 23 years in prison. After his release from prison, he spends his time mentoring young males and encouraging them to think about their choices and to learn from his mistakes. Using a symbolic gesture of “linking up,” Johnson reminded each of the students that they were responsible for the safety and well-being of one another.

Ave Shabazz broke the tone by starting his message with a simple apology. Shabazz explained that he and his generation failed our children by leaving them alone and not being there for them. Shabazz made it clear that not the responsibility doesn’t all lie in the hands of the children and the mothers. Shabazz inferred that some of the responsibility lies with the male figures that should be present to empower and mentor our young boys.

Thanks for the the great post last guy is Gerrel Jones

Gerrel Jones is a community coordinator with Impact Family Counseling that is working with the @birmingham Violence Reduction Initiative by interacting directly with families exposed to gun violence and homicides. Jones, who grew up in "the Brickyard" encouraged the young men by saying that they can have anything they want in life if they take the attitude of "Whatever it takes."

Community Lunar Lunch on May 4, 2018. Bristol Parks and Bristol on the River sponsored the "Meet your Bristol Neighbors" LUNAR LUNCH at Cummins Park behind the Historical Museum at 7pm on Friday night, May 4, 2018 from 7-9 pm. A crowd of over 80 adults and children came out to enjoy the free hotdogs, chips and treats and listen to the Bristol history storytellers. Nearly everyone from 4 to 80 played the trivia game hunting and finding the 7 Painted rocks that contained the answers, and all came forward to collect their painted Bristol slogan rock prize. Also featured was John Nymeyer's Folk Band The Promissory Notes which played music to end the evening’s entertainment. Folks sang along and even danced. It was a fun-filled evening for all, and plans are underway to hold more community park events for the summer and fall of this year. Just the Facts: Bristol Resident Susie Meeks-Wade won a grant for her Little Big Idea from Vibrant communities to hold this fun event to bring both Bristol residents and those who enjoy Bristol’s parks to come to the LUNAR LUNCH in Bristol at 7pm on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Cummins Park, behind the Bristol Historical Museum for an evening of fun, food, music, history and fellowship for all!
