After a screening of the season finale, some of the key members of the cast and creators were on hand for a panel to answer questions about the series, production and history. On hand were: John Benjamin Hickey (Frank Winter), Olivia Williams (Liza Winter), Ashley Zukerman (Charlie Isaacs), Rachel Brosnahan (Abby Isaacs), Sam Shaw, Creator, Writer and Executive Producer, Thomas Schlamme, Director and Executive Producer, Ruth Ammon, Production Designer and Alonzo V. Wilson, Costume Designer. Following the panel, guests were treated to cocktails and a variety of hors d’oeuvres from truffle mac and cheese and several types of pie and were gifted a bag with some Manhattan gear and a small pie.

This is my scanned image to go along with my question of "Why are more and more teens dealing with unplanned pregnancy?" I decided to scan a Trojan condom to signify that teen pregnancy is often times caused because teens do not know how to properly use condoms or they simply just do not use them while having sex with their significant other. I also choose the brand Trojan because that is one of the most well known brand of condom and I want it to really catch the audiences eye when they see it. This goes along with my question and the Teen Pregnancy ad because teen pregnancy could be avoided if the parties involved simply used a condom and this brings to question for the viewer "Was there more condoms previously and a person choose to use one each time he/she had sex?" or "Did I use a condom the last time I had sex?"

On Monday 19th May 2014 7:30pm-10pm our Founder of the Craftivist Collective Sarah Corbett took part as a speaker at Universette with a sold out event.
The Universettee is a series of mobile lectures that happen in people's homes with a variety of speakers from different walks of life. The emphasis is on learning about all sorts of issues in a non-threatening environment. The lectures are free but participants are asked to bring some food or drink to share. The syllabus is flexible and shaped by those who offer to lecture or host the Universettee. Lectures will be approximately 30-40 minutes followed by time for questions and discussion. The formal part of the evening will last no longer than 1 hour. People wanting to attend are required to book a place in advance as spaces are limited.

A spoonful of craft can help the activism go down.
We live in an ever-changing world where many forms of activism are not as effective as they once were. The terms ‘clicktivist’ and ‘slacktivist’ are used to describe minimal personal effort and engagement. Politicians have referred to such campaigners as ‘zombie campaigners’. Many people are becoming cynical and feeling like ‘robots’ just asked to do transactional activities rather than being helped in their own personal transformation to be the change they wish to see in the world.
My view as a professional campaigner working in public engagement and now as a full-time craftivist is that we need to adopt some new activism tactics: craft such as hand embroidery can address some of the problems in traditional activism and should become a valued tool in the activism toolbox. Craft connects your heart, head and hands, and when you relate that to justice issues, it can be world-changing personally and politically. Such activism is also able to reach out to people otherwise untouched by more traditional forms of activism.
I would like to talk about 3 ways in which craft really can help the activism go down: through personal deep engagement in global issues, through building relationships and conversations with influential change-makers, and through increasing awareness of and engagement with global issues by the public.
I will use my experience both as a craftivist and campaigner to critique some of the current methods of activism and to provide evidence of effective craftivism by the Craftivist Collective. www.craftivist-collective.com

Monument classified as World Heritage by UNESCO
Built in the XIV/XV century to commemorate the victory of the 6.000 men of the Portuguese army, against the 32.000 Spanish soldiers in one of their many invasion attempts, the Monastery of Batalha is the most glorious example of the Gothic architecture in Portugal.
The story tells that in the 1383-1385 crisis, when the Spanish army with their king was marching to Lisbon to claim the throne they encountered a small Portuguese army. Laughing of such small force they've decided to pass around because they didn't want to be delayed in their conquest. The Portuguese seeing that the only chance to keep the independence was to fight and win, started to insult the Spanish calling them cowards. It had its result as the Spanish decided to turn back to teach the Portuguese a lesson...
Right from the start the battle was a catastrophe to the Spanish. When their cavalry charged, the knights started to fall into the many traps built in the battle camp. Those who escaped reached the Portuguese army in a disordered formation and tried to pull back. But while some were trying to get back, large numbers of Spanish knights not understanding what was happening continued to charge and push all in their front against the Portuguese spears! More, the Portuguese army chose a very narrow space to fight and the long spears of the Spanish knights were not maneuverable, so they started to break them in half to make them shorter. The problem was that when the broken piece was thrown to the ground the horses tripped in them and fell...
Soon it became a catastrophe to the Spanish and their king was forced run to Spain barely escaping the Portuguese persecuting force. This victory kept Portugal safe for the next 200 years...
Not sure what exact type of butterfly this is...from what I can find online it looks to be either a gray comma, eastern comma or Question Mark butterfly...maybe someone can enlighten me that knows more...

On June 1, 2015, the Information Resource Center of the U.S. Embassy welcomed a group of 20 university students for the monthly English Club.
English Language Fellow Andrea Echelberger led the group through activities on "Improving Converstion in English". The participants learned how to paraphrase and use WH question words to continue conversations. This activity built confidence in these young participants to engage in dynamic discussion in English.
English Club meets once a month at the Information Resource Center. It is an opportunity for students and others to develop their English skills.

Before the new European Commission can take office the proposed new Commissioners must pass often tough Question and Answer sessions in front of Members of the European Parliament. Each committee questions the person who will be responsible for that dossier on issues ranging from their CV to political views. The last time this happened not all candidates passed muster as MEPs must sign off on them before they can take office.

There should be a giant question mark on my face at all times because I just don't know.
I feel like I'm in this weird transitional part of my life.
My mind is just racing with what ifs lately. Should I do this? What if I do that? Do I want to do that? How about this? Or why not? It's draining, very draining. I get ahead of myself, and start thinking about a year from now, trying to plan, and I can't.
I'm like this floating blob of a human.
Plus I feel like I'm a 22 year old (okay, in a week & a half) living a 17 year old's life. What I do now is pretty much no different than what I did when I was 17. Well, except pay bills & work constantly. I still live with my parents, I'm still in school. I'm not sure where I think I should be, just somewhere else. My best friend's going to be graduating from grad school around this time next year.
The only big NEXT STEP there is, besides getting my degree, is moving out.
This screen capture was taken less 5 minutes after the candidates had stopped answering the "abortion" question.
For those who didn't see the debate, an audience member asked a question of the candidates amounting to "What will you look for in a Supreme Court appointee?" Before the first candidate was able to answer, a CNN moderator interrupted to ask the candidate to include his stance on abortion in his answer.
Video of the question is here on CNN's site for now. (You can hear Biden laughing in background at the absurdity of asking for an audience question and then changing it when it wasn't what CNN wanted)
This obvious manipulation of the audience member's question was made more understandable when I looked at the CNN front page and saw their lead story, updated before the question had been asked.
This could, of course, be the result of CNN having agreed with the audience member beforehand on what her question would be, and the questioner accidentally or purposefully modifying her question into what turned out to be a more interesting query. As all of the candidates' stances on Roe v. Wade are well known, CNN might not be going out on a limb by stating they all agreed ahead of time, but if that's the case, it still doesn't seem to meet journalistic standards. Regardless, it's a very revealing peek into the workings behind CNN's debates and reporting, and puts into doubt the value of audience-sourced questions.

GENERATORprojects will present two exhibitions, Genetic Automata and Sensor
Genetic Automata by Larry Achiampong and David Blandy forms the first part of an ambitious new body of works by the artists, exploring race and identity in an age of avatars, video games, and DNA Ancestry testing. Initially commissioned by Arts Catalyst, this exhibition will be shown during NEoN Festival as part of a national tour.
Referencing the history of the theory of evolution, and the relationship between Darwin and his taxidermy teacher John Edmonstone, a freed slave, Genetic Automata raises important questions of invisible histories, eugenics, and segregation, through the lens of historical and contemporary contexts. The video installation combines animation, spoken word and text interspersed with microscopic topographies of varied shades of skin, digital renditions of skin from video games, and film footage of taxidermied bird life from Darwin’s bird skin collection at the Natural History Museum.
Sensor by emerging artist Toby Jackson is an extension of work that he has been developing over the past few years, highlighting the relationships between humans and computers; lived experience, and its digital manipulation. Sensor will use live capture 3D mapping to create an interactive projection which maps and distorts the audience’s movements, dictating the ways in which we interact with the work. The projected images will reference digital avatars via the visual simplifications of those who interact with it, questioning ideas of identity, privacy and anonymity in a world of digital surveillance.This relationship between the artwork and the audience will highlight the precarious power dynamic that exists between humans and computers, encouraging us to disrupt this dynamic, and reclaim control of our own narratives.
Each of these exhibitions discusses the insidious ways in which narratives can be altered and sculpted in order to disseminate ideas which negatively influence collective thinking. encourages us to reconsider our interactions with technology in order to combat this deceptive influence. Genetic Automata urges an awareness of the ways in which historical omissions can contribute to contemporary issues, particularly in relation to racial discrimination and segregation. Ultimately, these exhibitions combine to encourage a heightened awareness of the responsibility that each of us hold to question the information that we are forced to consume.
About the Artists
Larry Achiampong & David Blandy’s work has been shown both within the UK and abroad including Tate Modern, London; The Baltic, Gateshead; Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefied; Fact, Liverpool; BFI London Film Festival, London; Transmediale Festival, Berlin, Germany & Fort Worth Contemporary Arts, Texas, USA. They have been on residencies at Praksis, Oslo in Norway & Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridgeshire. Recent awards include an Elephant Trust award and support from Arts Council England. They have been shortlisted for the Film London Jarman award 2018. Larry Achiampong is represented by Copperfield Gallery, London & David Blandy is represented by Seventeen Gallery, London.
Toby Jackson is a Scotland-based digital artist, who uses innovative technology to create installations which are both interactive and generative. Jackson’s work explores themes of identity, self-expression, surveillance, and censorship, and the ways in which each of these affects – or is effected by – abstract representation of the self in our digital age. Following the critical success of his most recent work Blind Eye, this exhibition marks Jackson’s first solo show since graduating from DJCAD earlier this summer.

This is a photograph from the 2nd annual running of the Trim AC 10 Mile Road Race and Fun Run which was held in Trim, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 7th February 2016 at 12:00. The race attracted over 650 participants and already the event shows growth on last year's number of participants. The race started on the Trim/Athboy road on the town's ring road and proceded to take an anti-clockwise loop out towards the village of Dunderry and townland of Kilbride before returning back to the Trim Industrial Estate for the finish. The route is all quiet country roads with some hills at 3, 6, 8 mile segments. Today the weather was every runner's nightmare: very cold air temperatures and from mile 4 until the finish a very strong headwind. While the weather was dry without any rain the windy conditions made a very fair course challenging. Waterstops were provided at the 4.5 and 7 mile marks on the course. All access roads were well stewarded. The event was sponsored by Bewleys 1840 and many local business establishments. Credit must go to the Trim AC team for their flawless organisation. This race will continue to grow. For runners around the North Leinster area this 10 mile race serves as a perfect training progress stepping stone to the Bohermeen Half Marathon which will take place in March 2016 and is located only 15 minutes drive from Trim.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. A very long, and unproductive day.
I guess I have a few questions for anyone willing to answer. Do any of you ever have days where you can't think of anything at all to create? Most of my days are that way, and I end up needing to look at other people's work for inspiration instead of dreaming things up on my own( I do not mean copy other's work, by the way). How much of your work is "inspired" vs "dreamed up"? Is your mind a plethora of ideas, or a wasteland with the occasional sprout attempting to take root in barren soil?
Sometimes I worry I'm left brained instead of right (not that there's anything wrong with that), due to my lack of ability to create "good enough" original ideas. It makes me question if I should even be pursuing photography.

A Nobel laureate, she navigates these frontiers with both precision and an acute awareness of the weight of her discoveries. I photographed Doudna twice. The first time was on July 7, 2021, at the Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI) during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The world outside was shrouded in fog, a thick marine layer that wrapped around Berkeley’s hills, rendering everything indistinct and softened. Inside, the normally bustling institute was eerily quiet. There were no students gathering in the hallways, no hurried footsteps of researchers moving between lab stations. It was a fitting setting for a scientist whose work feels as though it has emerged from the mist of scientific uncertainty to reveal something dazzlingly clear.
In that empty space, Doudna’s presence was striking. She moved with the quiet intensity of someone accustomed to deep thought, her mind constantly engaged in the grand puzzle of molecular biology. The discovery she had helped bring to light, CRISPR-Cas9, had given scientists an unprecedented ability to edit genes with ease and precision. For the first time in human history, we had the capacity to rewrite the very code of life. With CRISPR, the genome was no longer a fixed text but an editable manuscript, full of potential revisions and possibilities.
The implications were staggering. Within just a few years, researchers had already begun using CRISPR to correct genetic diseases in animal models, paving the way for future human therapies. In agriculture, scientists were engineering crops resistant to drought and disease, potentially revolutionizing global food security. Yet for all its promise, CRISPR was also a technology fraught with ethical and societal concerns. The ability to alter DNA brought with it the specter of unintended consequences: off-target effects, genetic inequalities, and the possibility of enhancement rather than just therapy.
Doudna was acutely aware of these challenges. She has often spoken of the moment when, after her team’s initial breakthroughs, she awoke from a dream in which someone had asked her to explain CRISPR to Adolf Hitler. The dream unsettled her—not because the science was flawed, but because its power could so easily be misused. Unlike many scientists, she did not shy away from this realization. Instead, she became one of the most vocal advocates for ethical guidelines and called for global discussions on how gene editing should be regulated.
The second time I photographed her was at her home. It was a more personal setting, where she stood alongside her husband, biochemist Jamie Cate. This session would result in her official Nobel portrait, an image meant to capture not only the scientist but the thinker—the human being at the center of one of biology’s most consequential breakthroughs. In this environment, away from the sterility of the lab, Doudna was quick to smile, yet just as quick to consider the larger implications of her work. CRISPR, in her mind, was not simply a tool of innovation. It was a force that demanded careful stewardship.
Few scientists can move so effortlessly between the precise world of molecular biology and the broad, messy conversations of bioethics, governance, and human destiny. But Doudna is one of them. She understands that the future of gene editing is not simply about what science can achieve, but about what it should achieve. This balance between the limitless potential of discovery and the necessity of caution defines her approach.
Even as CRISPR is being explored as a treatment for sickle cell disease, blindness, and certain cancers, she remains focused on ensuring that this technology does not outpace our ability to control it. She has advocated for a moratorium on heritable human genome editing, recognizing that the decision to alter the genetic blueprint of future generations is one that cannot be made lightly. The world may be racing toward a new era of genetic medicine. But if Doudna has her way, it will not be reckless.
Her legacy is still unfolding, but one truth is already apparent. The world she is shaping will look very different from the one she inherited. And as science advances, her voice will remain one of its most thoughtful, deliberate, and necessary guides. She is a scientist of precision, yes. But more importantly, she is a scientist of conscience.
