This photo was taken with my new GoPro Hero3+ Camera. Pictured is the Phantom Quaddcopter. I tried to get the copter to lift off just a couple of feet in the house but it did not move. Guess I'm going to have to go back to the instruction manual and figure out what I've done wrong. As you can see the camera is working fine. I can hardly wait to see the landscapes that this new perspective is going to allow me to capture.

My Q-copter from years ago with Sony action cam

When I got to school this morning the sun was just perfect, the wind was right for the flags, I was early with plenty of time, so off into the wild blue yonder with my Phantom for a sunrise shot. After a few minutes in the cold with no gloves I realized my fingers were getting very numb, almost too numb to land the thing. Why don't I ever think of stuffing my gloves in the camera bag?

Sad tale of slight miscalculation of increasing height.

My first drone or quadcopter as an expensive reminder of the consequences of not paying attention. Unfortunately the drone cannot be retrieved without major effort!.

A spectacle produced by the Ars Electronica Futurelab for Intel has made it into the record books. In a performance showcased by a promotional film for the world-famous chip maker, 100 spaxels took to the sky simultaneously. Team spirit is what it took to get this ambitious demonstration of technical brilliance off the ground.

Remote Controlled quadcopter drone equipped with video camera that sends a live feed to Virtual Reality goggles.

The Virtual Reality goggles have multi-axis orientation sensors, and they control the orientation of the camera on the drone, i.e. if you wear the VR goggles and turn your head to the right, the camera will rotate to the right, etc.

Albert Head Lagoon Park VIDEO

Sunday I walked around Albert Head Lagoon Park with my CGO3 4k video camera mounted on the Yuneec Handheld ®SteadyGrip attachment.

®Steady Grip is a patented accessory for the Yuneec Q500+ Typhoon quadcopter. The three-way, gimbal mounted camera is coupled to one's smartphone via its own Wi-Fi connection which permits for the operator to frame video and still images and control the camera from the phone's touch screen. The images and video are stored in the HDSD card mounted inside the camera just as it would if mounted on the quad.

I'm seeing a lot more quadcopters with GoPro cameras flying overhead. This particular one was being flown too close to the Osprey nest, in violation of park rules. The guy flying it spooked the birds off their platform before bringing it back in, at our request. I've been reading about wildlife harassment in various National Parks and public land areas, by people flying these drone devices, spooking bighorn sheep and other animals. I hadn't considered the potential to seriously disrupt nesting birds until we witnessed this flyover.

Today I was able to experience the Phantom Quadcopter's GPS in action. Despite my trying to control the aircraft, it defended to the ground at just about where I launched it from before turning itself off. I think the battery was low. Good to know that this very important feature works. Anyway what a view!

Following its world premiere at the Linz Klangwolke in September 2012, the Ars Electronica Futurelab’s (AT) computer-controlled swarm of quadcopters—took to the air again on Saturday, March 23, 2013 in a role and setting no less spectacular than the exciting technology itself: as high-tech heralds of Paramount’s “Star Trek – Into Darkness” that’s opening in movie theaters on May 9th. A squadron of 30 LED-studded AscTec Hummingbird quadcopters will hover above Potters Fields Park near London’s Tower Bridge and, in conjunction with Earth Hour, will form a three-dimensional Star Trek logo in the night sky.

My brother made up some new skids for his quadcopter after breaking the last pair of T-Rex 700 (helicopter) skids he had. He used PVC pipe and a hot air gun to melt one side and create a flat area to mount to the quad’s arms. Then cutting the pipe into short lengths the width of the arms and if you are clever you’ll make a few extra because this is another part that is likely to break.

The result is neat, simple and works well. They have been tested.

Just another concept, now with rounded hull.

I myself prefere the first one, what do you think?

Chicago’s Lakeshore path and surroundings are off limits to drones now. Haven’t seen these signs before but I’m not too surprised. Sign looked temporary but who knows?

A local black bear in the field across the street from my house gets a visit from a quadcopter…note we were very far from the bear who didn't seem to care about the quad which was still a few hundred meters away from him.

I had gone over to help her on some projects but I thought it would be interesting to get an aerial shot down her street. Unfortunately you barely see her house due to the trees but I like the perspective here.
