My (semi)finished quad.
It flies, and it flies well. Adding camera, transmitter and other sensors next.
This is the quadcopter. It has 2 white LED's at the front and 2 red LED's at the back - which can be switched off on the remote.
45 minutes to charge the battery, giving about 5-10 minutes of flight time.
With an add-on video camera on the bottom, recording 640X480 video.
The Spaxels, the quadcopter swarm of the Ars Electronica Futurelab, were part of the big celebration launching the northern Swedish city of Umea’s term as European Capital of Culture on February 1. 30 Spaxels took to the sky for a five-minute performance during which they formed the Umea logo and the configuration of stars on the EU flag.

I took a break from the camera in order to launch my quadcopter out at Montrose Beach. I don't know if it's mating season but the seagulls made me nervous as they flew around my quadcopter. My wife Marcy was nice enough to accompany me today. You see... that's a rare occurrence.
Added some super bright LEDs to the ftont arms of the quad to add visibility and make it loom cooler. Upgraded the keychain camera to a GoPro 2 with a custom vibration damping mount (weather stripping foam, rubberbands, and a zip tie). Also taped a video transmitter to the top to see if I could get any FPV.
Following its world premiere at the Linz Klangwolke in September 2012, the Ars Electronica Futurelab’s (AT) computer-controlled swarm of four-rotor mini-whirlybirds—so-called quadcopters—took to the air again on Saturday, March 23, 2013 in a role and setting no less spectacular than the exciting technology itself: as high-tech heralds of Paramount’s “Star Trek – Into Darkness” that’s opening in movie theaters on May 9th. A squadron of 30 LED-studded AscTec Hummingbird quadcopters hovered above Potters Fields Park near London’s Tower Bridge and, in conjunction with Earth Hour, formed a three-dimensional Star Trek logo in the night sky.

The wind and the extra weight of the GoPro meant the battery life and run time of the quad was reduced. From memory this battery lasted around 10 minutes (a Turnigy 3,300mAh 3C 30-40C 11.1V) which really isn’t bad. If you look closely you can see the battery alarm next to it connected to the balance ports.
You liked the pictures so you will love the Yuneec VIDEO
Wednesday we walked 2km roundtrip thru Hatley Castle parkland, trails.
This was after flying the Yuneec Q500 Typhoon quadcopter at Allendale Field. This time was our fifth outing with the new quad so we chose a new location beside Metchosin Road.
It was very rewarding being able to calibrate the compass for the first time. The flights went very well and it appears I'm learning how to gain control of this bird.
We took a few photographs and several short videos showing the north side of the field from the air.
It was a most pleasant day with no wind and under clear, sunny skies. The clear factor gives us good satellite connections.
A frame grab from my latest quadcopter video just east of Oregon, Illinois on the BNSF's Aurora subdivision.

Finally having my quadcopter up and running I took some real estate shot on a clifftop property. Comment and suggestions welcome.
The Ars Electronica Futurelab (AT) developed a software with which the flight behavior of a quadcopter formation can be very flexibly controlled, and that simultaneously makes allowance for GPS measurement errors with respect to the position of individual units. For the choreography of the swarm, the Linz crew created a 3D Studio Max grid in which any given number of points can be defined just like in a three-dimensional animated film. The computations that result are then communicated to the flight control software that pilots the swarm’s aerial maneuvers.
