My recent visits to the Bluebell Railway inspired me to go back through my archives and finally process this image that I've always been fond of. This loco is currently under overhaul but may be back in traffic by mid-2025.

M6 (ex-M9 RS&H #7429 of 1951) had only started its retirement in mid-1971 when there was a mass condemnation of M/Ma boilers. The loco found a reprieve when purchased by Bob Butrims in 1975 and eventually moved to the fledgling Bellarine Peninsula Railway in 1979.
On the other hand, Q5 (Perry Engineering #241 of 1922) was fortunate enough to escape the scrap drive of 1965 and found refuge in Hobart Roundhouse until the Tasmanian Transport Museum Society completed purchase and had a site to move it to.

The sixth day of my second railway trip of 2023 which was about a week's tour of Heritage Railways was spent visiting the Bluebell Railway where I photographed 30541..
Loco 30541 is a 0-6-0 Tender Locomotive built for the Southern Railway as a Q Class was designed by Maunsell and built at Eastleigh Works.
Later 30541 which should have been on Static Display was shunted through Sheffield Park Station by the diesel shunter hidden behind it.

Its had a few teething problems in the past couple of weeks but fingers crossed they've now been sorted and I look forward to seeing this loco working properly very soon!
