The Egyptian pyramids are ancient masonry structures located in Egypt. Most were built as tombs for the country's pharaohs and their consorts during the Old and Middle Kingdom periods.

The most famous Egyptian pyramids are those found at Giza, on the outskirts of Cairo. Several of the Giza pyramids are counted among the largest structures ever built. The Pyramid of Khufu is the largest Egyptian pyramid. It is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still in existence.*

There are some small pyramids in the image but I just don't recall why I gave it that name. I must have had a reason. If you see me you might ask me about it.

A hoodoo (also called a tent rock, fairy chimney, or earth pyramid) is a tall, thin spire of rock formed by erosion. Hoodoos typically consist of relatively soft rock topped by harder, less easily eroded stone that protects each column from the elements. They generally form within sedimentary rock and volcanic rock formations.

Pyramid Lake was formed by the tears of Stone Mother, who had herself a tsunami-like cry after her husband "The Man" banished two of her children from the tribe for being class act brats. Her multi-day cry not only created the lake but eventually turned her to stone, thus her name "Stone Mother." Apparently, she's still sitting somewhere along the shore with her basket by her side. I saw none of that, but given my current state of mind, I think it's all quite plausible.

Was hoping to see a moose walking along the shore but no luck! For a split second I did think the picnic table might be a moose but no antlers and it was standing rather still! :) Taken in Jasper National Park, Alberta.

At least, ...it was for several nights around the last Super bowl--- held at the San Francisco 49ers' football stadium down in Santa Clara.

Anyway, it used to be an old joke about the chances of the Transamerica Pyramid being illuminated in colored light, like the City Hall and Coit Tower are. But, the joke became reality when, while looking at one of the very handy live cams out there one night, I could tell there was something extra making the pyramid glow. The confusing part was how it changed off and on due to the web cam refreshing during different colors.

So, the thing to do was go down and see. It was great. I saw many photographers at every spot I shot from and many of my contacts from flickr took great images of something that may not happen again. I mean, that took some money.

Thanks for checking out the shot!

ancient Roman pyramid in Rome

Taken back in July of last year. This was a very memorable day for me as I saw an awful lot is such a short amount of time.

Pyramid Peak reaches an elevation of 14,018 ft (4,273 m). Despite its height and rugged craggy top, it takes a back seat to its more famous cousins, the Maroon Bells. This was shot shortly before sunset at Maroon Lake, Colorado.

Happy Thursday! Thanks for stopping by and for all of your kind comments, awards and faves -- I appreciate them all.

'TRI-COLOURED BEAUTY.'

This tri-coloured Pyramidal Orchid caught my eye by standing out among the profusion of other orchids/wildflowers on site. Only 12cm tall and in near pristine condition, an absolute beauty!

The Louvre Pyramid (Pyramide du Louvre) is a large glass and metal pyramid designed by Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei. Located in the main courtyard of the Louvre Palace, it serves as the main entrance to the museum. Completed in 1989, it has become a landmark of the city of Paris.
