View from the Juche Tower in Pyongyang
Dit punt - gebouw is een hotel in wording ... reeds jaren wordt eraan gewerkt! Sinds 1987. Wegens financiële problemen geraakt het gebouw niet afgewerkt. Er zijn 105 verdiepingen. Hoogte 330 meter.
After 16 years the construction of the Ryugyong Hotel.
The 330 Meter high building has 105 floors and is supposed to be a hotel. Construction started in 1987, but was stopped in 1992 due to financial problems. Now it seems, like the construction works on Ryugyong Hotel continue. The Egyptian Orascom group is working on the project.

A wall depicting so-called "slogan-bearing trees" (구호나무) in Mt Ryongak in the suburbs of Pyongyang is being demolished. Maybe some new slogan trees were "discovered" (read: fabricated) in the meantime, or some of the slogans had to be adapted to a recent change in party line.

평양 현무문(玄武門).
The north gate of the north fortress of Pyongyang, first built in the 6th century, rebuilt in 1714. It became a theatre of war in 1894 when Japanese troops defeated Qing troops in the Battle of Pyongyang. The storming of Hyonmu Gate by the Japanese was a crucial event of the Sino-Japanese War and forms the subject of many contemporary Japanese woodblock prints. The gate pavilion was destroyed by American bombs in 1952 and reconstructed in 1954.

The view of Pyongyang from the Juche Tower. These buildings comprise the Mansudae Apartment Complex, a brand new residential compound which features in a lot of the current DPRK news and propaganda - amazing that a single property development can be so important.
