Pushing coal from the Huangcunjin mine at Shibanxi, Sichuan Province, China. The mine has now shut, the steam hauled coal trains are no more, but the narrow gauge railway has re-invented itself as a tourist line, with brightly coloured locomotives. So now it's probably best to shoot your pictures in black and white. December 2008. © Photo - David Hill.

I've been visiting Tested.com for a few months now and I thoroughly enjoy watching Adam Savage and company build all manner of geeky goodness. Imagine my surprise when I log on and find a video of Adam building Jason Allemann's breathtaking Sisyphus Kinetic Sculpture! I had a perma-grin. Until he said "Legos" and used a tiny handsaw on it. The Horror!

Long Story, Short. It inspired me to try my hand at building an automata. Initially, I was going to build a scene with a hapless jungle explorer being eaten by a crocodile. That one ended up being a bit too complex for my current skill level. So I settled for a much simpler design.

The model is powered by either the hand crank or the built-in motor. Just like Jason's, switching between the motor and the crank is as simple as sliding a gear out.

Eagle-eyed FOL's may have noticed that Patrick bears a striking resemblance to Jason's Sisyphus figure. That is because I'm rubbish at building characters. So I borrowed the design and made the needed modifications and aesthetic changes. Hopefully Jason won't mind!

Edit: As promised, here is the LDD file for the model. Enjoy!

The flowers of yukiwariichige( lit.snow-break-one-flower) began to bloom earlier this year. Being very sensitive to the light and the temperature they may close in this cold weather.

I was very particular to put in all the parts of a real mower into this build. Right down to the pull cord that starts the engine!

It is a remake of a quite famous poster (that is most likely to be found in girls' rooms) we made for a friends 18th birthday. Big Push is the original title.

Wow... lets just say it was a loooooong weekend. :S This DOES have some music, but its kinda crappy quality cuz I just help my iPod up to the camera.. haha

I love those two push pins that trickle down at the end.. :)

Hi! My name is Daniel and I live in Helsinki, Finland. I “rediscovered” film around 1.5 years ago and since then, I haven’t shot much in the way of digital – including about a year of having no digital cameras at all.

To me, film is superior in every aspect – its tones, grain, and the...

I was going through some old images of our trip to Vietnam in 2011 and I decided to process a few with the new tools that I have found in 9 years!

CA: Una de les peculiritats dels InterCity's alemanys és l'ús de llargues composicions Push-pull en molts serveis. En aquest cas, un IC, la ruta del qual desconec, entra a Heidelberg Hbf.

This grungy phone has lived in my garage since 1983, perhaps I should take the time to clean it up. Then again, it's almost never used although it does still work.

Sometimes a little people power is required to get the job done. When the two boxcars wouldn't roll far enough to complete the run-around move the conductor had to step in and provide the muscle.

Even in those extremely difficult circumstances, there is still joy in life. Nor is life ever only painful under any circumstances.
