For lovers of nature in its purest form, the dry beds of streams and ravines are an ideal place where humans generally do not enter, only animals, plants, interesting geological outcrops and a suggestive mineral geometry that competes with the pieces exhibited in the most recognized art galleries.

Scrunching on Probars, and nearly submerging jeeps, we found ourselves on the edge. Looking down the brilliantly blue colored water descends to what eventually will become our ocean, but here in the highlands, you could kneel down and drink straight from the river without a worry in the world of getting sick.

Some of the purest water I've come across on our planet, and so much of it they literally cannot build enough bridges to cover the river crossings. I've never driven through so many rivers in my life, we drove through this one perhaps just a mile upstream. Yeah... we drove through this... and it was crazy, scary as all get up, and also somehow fun. Nearly cracked my oil pan.

This is a single exposure which I may process as a pano eventually to include the brilliant blue sky above, but I kind of like it like this. I feel like this helps keeps the focus on how close to certain death I was standing. On the edge of a long plunge.

Andrzej sits in his kitchen, surrounded by the quiet decay of everyday life. The mug with “Mazury 2008” printed on it isn’t a souvenir. It’s just something that stayed — like everything else that once meant something and now simply remains. Steam drifts from it slowly, the only thing still moving in a room long emptied of air and purpose. This is Andrzej’s world in its purest form: one long, tired breath suspended between yesterday and oblivion.

“THEY TELL THE STORY of the Sikh who, returning to India after many years, sat down among his suitcases on the Bombay docks and wept. He had forgotten what Indian poverty was like. It is an Indian story, in its arrangement of figure and properties, its melodrama, its pathos. It is Indian above all in its attitude to poverty as something which, thought about from time to time in the midst of other preoccupations, releases the sweetest of emotions. This is poverty, our especial poverty, and how sad it is! Poverty not as an urge to anger or improving action, but poverty as an inexhaustible source of tears, an exercise of the purest sensibility. “

the May 2025 exhibition @ The Annex of Nitroglobus

When I visited Onceagain’s gallery last winter, I was immediately drawn to the black and white photography of Yoasa. The images were powerful—full of mood, emotion, and presence. They stayed with me. So I reached out to Yoasa without hesitation, and now I’m thrilled to present LOVE IS A STRANGER, his solo exhibition at the Nitroglobus Annex.

Yoasa’s ability to capture raw emotion in monochrome is striking. I was captivated when I first saw his work, and I believe you will be too.

Enjoy the exhibition!

Description by the artist:

I’ve been roaming Second Life for quite some time now. Photography has become the heart of my experience here—it’s the one thing I’m truly dedicated to in this world. Through the lens, I find a space to be creative, to seek out and capture human emotions in a way that feels honest and raw.

Black and white is my medium of choice. I see it as the purest way to express emotion—stripped of distraction, focused solely on feeling.

Color brings joy to the eyes - but black & white reaches the heart.

I shoot exclusively in square format. The symmetry of the frame narrows the point of view, allowing me to concentrate on the essence of a scene without letting the noise in.

The works in this exhibition were inspired by an old Eurythmics song. But it’s not about sadness or despair—it’s about that quiet, intimate moment of realization: the moment you understand that you are alone.

„Love is a stranger in an open car

To tempt you in, and drive you far away

Love is a danger of a different kind

It′ll take you away and leave you far behind“

(Eurythmics-Love is a stranger)

How to Make Clear Ice Cubes at Home for Picture-Perfect Drinks

Whether you’re mixing up cocktails or mocktails, learn how to make clear ice at home to give all of your beverages a professional finish.

By Andrea Beck

Updated on February 8, 2023

Clear ice cubes definitely make drinks look prettier and ready for their close-up but there's an added benefit to making clear ice. They don’t melt quite as fast as regular ice, because clear ice cubes have fewer air bubbles trapped inside. While you might be used to seeing clear ice cubes in drinks at restaurants and bars, most ice cubes you’ve frozen yourself probably look a little cloudy or opaque. But this doesn’t mean your water isn’t clean, or that your ice cubes aren’t as pure as your favorite restaurant. Though impurities can make your ice cubes look white or cloudy instead of clear, how you freeze your ice also has a lot to do with whether the cubes look clear. Follow these tips from former bartender Millie Pham to help make clear ice at home.

What Type of Water to Use to Make Clear Ice

Though cloudy ice isn’t always caused by the water you’re using, it helps to start off with the purest possible water. “Cloudiness in ice results from impurities, such as air, minerals, and other things that aren’t pure H2O,” Pham says. “As the water starts freezing, impurities are trapped inside the growing crystal structure, creating a cloudy appearance.”

It sounds a little counterintuitive, but you can eliminate some of these impurities by using hot water. “One of my tips for making clearer ice is to use warm or hot water, since there are fewer impurities in warm water than cold water,” Pham says. It won’t freeze quite as quickly, but boiled distilled water will have the fewest impurities and give you the clearest cubes. But while the type of water you use can make your ice a little less cloudy, to make completely clear cubes, you also need to use a special freezing method.

How to Make Ice Cubes Clear

For truly see-through ice cubes, you’ll want to use a clear ice mold. “This method requires effort and time, but it is a great way to make clear ice if you want to save money and have fun doing so,” Pham says. A clear ice mold can range from $25 up to about $50, but you don’t necessarily need anything too fancy to make clear ice. If you want to learn how to make clear ice balls, you can also find directional freezing molds with a spherical shape.

Clear ice molds work by using directional freezing. Unlike regular ice cube molds, which allow water to freeze from all directions, special clear ice molds are usually insulated on the bottom and sides and open on the top. This forces the water to freeze in just one direction (called directional freezing), which forces any air bubbles or remaining impurities out of the ice in that direction, leaving you with clear ice cubes. Regular ice trays allow ice to freeze from all sides, trapping air and minerals in the center of the cubes.

Another option is to buy a clear ice maker, but that’s a much pricier route. “A clear ice maker is the most effective, least hassle, and fastest way to make clear ice if you don’t want to put any effort into making the clear ice,” Pham says. But while some machines can start producing clear ice cubes in less than an hour, most will cost over $200, and produce much smaller cubes than clear ice mold.

How to Make Clear Ice at Home

While you’ll have to monitor a clear ice mold in the freezer, it’s one of the most budget-friendly ways for most people to make ice cubes clear at home. You also don’t have to worry as much about using pure water. Though you can use hot distilled water, even traditional tap water will freeze clear in a directional freezing mold. Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Fill the Mold with Water

Just like a traditional ice cube mold, fill the clear ice mold with either distilled or tap water.

Step 2: Place Tray in the Freezer

Set the clear ice mold in the freezer. If the opening is at the top, the ice will freeze from top to bottom. It may take about 15 to 20 hours for the ice to freeze.

Step 3: Remove Tray from the Freezer

Once the cubes are frozen, remove the ice mold from the freezer, and take the ice cubes out of the tray. They should be completely clear and ready to use.

Icelandic horses are one of the purest horse breeds in the world. They came to Iceland on the Viking ships between 860 and 935 AD .

In 982 AD, the Icelandic parliament passed laws that prohibited any importation of other horse breeds into the country, meaning that for over a thousand years, the breed has been kept in complete isolation within the island.

To prevent possible diseases, no other horse breed is allowed in the country and once an Icelandic horse is exported, it's not allowed back inside. This means that the Icelanders actually never take their best horses out for riding competitions.

You are looking at the oldest continually existing brewery in Australia. It is Cascade Brewery in South Hobart and it was established in 1824 by ex convict Peter Degraves (1778-1852). The site was chosen because of the fresh cool mountain water that flowed through the rivulet, and to this day is one of the reasons why Tasmanian beer is among the purest anywhere in the world.

The summit of Mt Wellington/kunanyi sits behind the spectacular old building facade that has it's own tortured history. In the tragic 1967 bushfires the brewery was almost completely destroyed (and 64 people around Hobart were killed), but this part of the building stood as a reminder of its historic past. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascade_Brewery

West Coast lady

Species of butterfly

The West Coast lady (Vanessa annabella) is one of three North American species of brush-footed butterflies known colloquially as the "painted ladies". V. annabella occurs throughout much of the western US and southwestern Canada. The other two species are the cosmopolitan Vanessa cardui (painted lady) and the eastern Vanessa virginiensis (American painted lady). This species has also been considered a subspecies of the South American Vanessa carye and is frequently misspelled as "anabella".

Quick facts Scientific classification, Binomial name ...

Distinguishing features

Schematic of standard wing terminology

See also: Cynthia (butterfly) § Distinguishing features

Aside from general differences in distribution, V. annabella can be distinguished from the other two painted ladies of North America as follows:

Most conspicuously, it lacks obvious ventral eyespots on the hindwings; there are two large ones on V. virginiensis and four small ones on V. cardui. Like the latter, it also lacks a white dot in the pinkish-orange subapical field of the ventral and dorsal forewings. Its upperwing coloration has the purest orange of the three; the American painted lady is usually quite reddish.

A less reliable indicator is the row of black eyespots on the dorsal submarginal hindwing. These are usually of roughly equal size in V. cardui and lack blue centers, though the summer morph may have a few tiny ones. In the other two, usually two eyespots are larger and have more conspicuous blue centers. In V. virginiensis, these normally are the spot at each end of the row, whereas in the present species it is the two middle ones.

Developmental stages

The developmental stages of Vanessa annabella can be divided into eight different stages: first instar larva, second instar larva, third instar larva, fourth instar larva, fifth instar larva, prepupa, pupa, and adult.[1] In their adult stage, there is subtle sexual dimorphism between males and females, as females have a more rounded hindwing compared to their male counterparts.[1] The color pattern is the same on both males and females: “tawny orange with black markings, white subapical forewing spots, and blue pupilled hindwing ocelli."[1] Their open wing expanse averages generally vary between 40 and 48 mm, with females often being larger than males.[1] The total time it takes for this species to develop is typically between 30 and 36 days.[1]

Natural history

This butterfly is often seen basking in open areas in its habitat.[2] Their habitats are mostly localized to open areas from the Upper Sonoran to the Canadian zones.[3] The West Coast Lady is a multiple brooded species, meaning that there are more than one set of offspring within a single breeding season.[2] Sightings of this butterfly have been captured from May to December in Huntington Beach by Ron Vanderhoff.[2] Most captures of this butterfly are usually made in April and May.[2] They are generally distributed in Orange County in places of lower elevations.[2]

Vanessa annabella feeds on plants in the families of Malvacae and Urticacae.[3] In Southern California, the common native hostplants include Urtica holosericea (Urticaceae), Sida species, Sphaeralcea ambigua (Malvaceae), and Sidalcea malvaeflora (Malvacae).[1] Their eggs are pale green and are laid singly on the upperside of the hostplant leaves. [3] Additionally, their pupation sites are either on the leaves of the hostplant or on nearby objects such as twigs or branches.[1]

Both the males and females of the species visit flowers.[1] During the afternoon, males are typically found congregating in areas such as hilltops, forest openings, glades, meadows, streamside slopes, and patches of dry earth which are particularly suitable for basking in the sun.[1] At these areas, males spend a large amount of time and energy chasing each other and sometimes engaging in courtship and mating with females.[1] Though females do not congregate in a similar manner to the males, they are likely to be found on hilltops feeding, seeking foodplants, or ovipositing.[1]

Me:

For having traveled so far, beer was in good form. Brilliant clarity under a long-lived collar of white foam. Slightly grassy nose; subtle cracker-wafer malt; hints of honey and green apple; subdued tree-sap and mowed-grass hops; dry, slightly sulfury finish. Bonus points: served on draught, in a brewery serving glass, out-of-doors, on a spring afternoon. Delightful!

Here's a larger touch of blue!

My Kodak Gold 100 Color Negative film is deteriorating. The color is shifting. I prefer the Monotone conversion anyway. The Purest position is if it was originally shot in color, then conversion is somehow a failure. I don't believe that at all, which is one reason I'm not accepted by the cool kids and their mind traps of accepted artistic expression. I say that the negative or unprocessed digital file can be considered similar to a musical score. The processing is the performance of that score and can be done differently every time.

The term nous (rhymes with “juice”) is important in Orthodox spirituality and the Fathers. Nous originally referred simply to the intellect, the means by which one could apprehend truth. In the New Testament, St. Paul often used nous in its ordinary Greek cultural sense of “mind.” The Fathers of the Church also used the word nous and other terms from Greek culture and philosophy; however, through their use in the Church, these terms acquired a specific Christian meaning. Among the Fathers, nous became a theological “term of art”—in other words, it has a specific and specialized meaning.

Nous has been defined and described in various ways. In Orthodox theology, nous refers not to the rational operation of the mind but to that part of the soul that allows the human person to know God, “the purest part of the soul, the eye of the soul.”2 “Man has two centers of knowing: the nous, which is the appropriate organ for receiving the revelation of God that is later put into words through the reason, and the reason which knows the sensible world around us.”

The Fathers frequently referred to the nous, and it has a very specific role in theology according to their experience and understanding. The Fathers rejected the idea that one could acquire knowledge of God by discursive reasoning (dianoia). True knowledge of God is gained through purification of the intellect (nous), and this comes about only with prayer. A famous statement known to all Orthodox theologians is, “The true theologian is one who prays.” A purified intellect grows in its knowledge of God through spiritual experience, not through dialectical reasoning, application of philosophical techniques, or the acquisition of mental skills. “The knowledge of reason is consequently of lower order than spiritual knowledge, apprehension or perception [of divine truth], which is the function of the intellect [nous] and is beyond the scope of reason.”

Some people might not have imagined seeing me on a motorbike. But yes, I am, and riding a motorbike is an essential part of my life. I started at 18, in fact. Believe it or not, I got on a motorbike and was able to ride it without any problems right from the start. This was a certain sign to me that I had talent. From those days on, I began exploring the world by bike, first with the best friend I've ever had, and later with my wife. We took our honeymoon trip to Egypt and Israel on our motorcycles. It was during the first Iraq War in 1991, which meant that we practically had the countries to ourselves, completely without tourists at that time. It's something you only get to experience once in a lifetime. Later, our travels included Finland, Sweden, France, Italy, Greece, Croatia, and North Africa, to name just a few. The motorbike was my gateway to the world and has remained so ever since, even though I mostly travel only in my home country now. To my greatest joy, I can share my passion with two of my sons. We regularly ride in the Swiss mountains and really enjoy it together. Drinking coffee, talking and be happy together. Motorcycling is simply a fascination that is hard to describe. It's that certain feeling of independence and freedom that lies deep in your heart. Also the feeling that you've somehow still stayed young even though everything in your body hurts haha...

I still love riding over the Alpine passes and enjoying the beautiful nature in its purest form on my motorbike. Who knows for how long?

I'll probably delete this photo soon. I wanted to reveal my "slightly different side" to my dear friends here. Summer seemed like a perfect time to do so. Thank you for your interest and understanding. The picture quality isn't the best. I only take my cell phone with me on motorcycle tours. Enjoy summer to the fullest dear friend, with or without a bike haha...

"It don't get no better

My tongue writing you letters

Feeling you get wetter

We'll be making love until the morning after

And I can feel your tide slowly rising

Drown in it, drown in it..Just take me under.

Drown in it, drown in it...Under your waters, girl.

Drown in it, drown in it. I won't ever come up, oh." - Chris Brown ♫

Some people believe that there is no such thing as “true love” they believe that love is nothing but an illusion designed by social expectations. These people believe that love ultimately turns into pain and despair. This idea in some ways is true. Love is not eternal it will come to an end one way or another, but the aspect that separates true love from illusion, is the way love ends. “True Love” is much too powerful to be destroyed by Human imperfection; it may only be destroyed by a force equal to the power of love. Diotima believed that “Love is wanting to posses the good forever” In other words love is the desire to be immortal and the only way that we are able to obtain immortality is through reproduction, and since the act of reproduction is a form of sexual love, then sexual love is in fact a vital part of “True love”. Sexual love is not eternal. This lust for pleasure will soon fade, but the part of love that is immortal, is a plutonic love. You can relate this theory to the birth of love that Diotima talks about. She says that love was born by a mortal mother and immortal father. The mother represents the sexual love, the lust for pleasure. The father represents the plutonic love that is immortal. Plutonic love is defined as a true friendship, the purest of all relationships. A true plutonic love will never die; it transcends time, space, and even death.

See you on 5th of December! <3

Perched on the edge of time is a frozen forest lost to the purest and whitest of winters. It is the home of every winter creature, deity, story and song. However one by one by one their snowflakes have been falling, and if they aren't returned before they melt... their stories will be lost forever. Help us save winter by collecting the snowflakes and traveling to the Great White Forest to put them in their rightful place.

Glad to hear it because, as many of you know, we have plenty of it here. And despite an archival collection of "color shots" which I will never get through even to evaluate, I cannot resist taking more every year, adding to the somewhat overwhelming inventory. My thinking being that if I do so, I won't have to look back and review those from previous years...also known as the lazy photographer approach. In any event, this is a stretch of forest which never fails to stand out for its relatively early variety of color in a limited space. I know I've shot it before; I don't know if I posted it before...and if I have, here it is again SOOC. And for those who, like me, continually seek examples of the fall palette, take heart, for as my dear old friend, John Ruskin, once noted: "The purest and most thoughtful minds are those which love colour the most."

But what is he, in whom the heav'nly Mind

Shines forth distinguish'd and above Mankind?

This, this is Newton; He, who first survey'd

The Plan, by which the Universe was made:

Saw Nature's simple, yet stupendous Laws,

And prov'd th' Effects, tho' not explain'd the Cause.

Thou too, bold Milton, whose immortal Name,

Thy Country dares to match with Homer's Fame;

Whose tow'ring Genius vast and unconfin'd,

Left ev'n the Limits of the World behind;

Thro' Hell, thro' Chaos, and infernal Night,

Ascending to the Realms of purest Light;

Or else on Earth, in Eden's happy Grove,

With Peace, with Bliss conversing, and with Love:

Here art thou plac'd, these blooming shades among,

Second to those alone thy Muse has sung.

Spread your wings, rise and fly

Past the trees up to the sky

Chase the clouds of purest white

Silhouetted against the bright daylight

Over the trees and fields of green

Your wings spread wide, will be seen

In the blueness of the sky

As you rise , soar and fly

In the heart of the autumn wilderness, the mighty stag stood tall, his powerful call echoing through the misty morning air. His antlers, a crown of pride and strength, bore the weight of countless seasons. Around him, his loyal harem grazed peacefully, their trust in him unwavering. The drizzle painted a serene backdrop, but within him burned the fire of guardianship, protecting his herd from unseen dangers.

This scene is not just a moment but a testament to nature's raw beauty and timeless rhythms. Here, life thrives in its purest form, and the call of the wild reigns supreme.

- Alchemilla mollis, the garden lady's-mantle or lady's-mantle, is an herbaceous perennial plant native to southern Europe and grown throughout the world as an ornamental garden plant.

It grows 30 to 45 cm (12 to 18 in) tall, with leaves that are palmately veined, with a scalloped and serrated margin. The chartreuse yellow flowers are held in dense clusters above the foliage.

The plant is often grown as a ground cover, and is especially valued for the leaves in wet weather, as the water beads and sparkles on the leaves. This is due to the remarkable dewetting properties of the leaves, whereby the contact force between the water and the leaf is so disfavoured that a thin layer of air penetrates the solid-liquid interface.

These beads of water were considered by alchemists to be the purest form of water. They utilised this water in their quest to turn base metal into gold. Hence the name Alchemilla.

I am posting the picture that spoke to me this morning. It has so many technical problems but it represents the purest of my intentions. Every day I make another mistake when shooting and I am learning and finding value from the process. Today's error was forgetting to change auto ISO to manual so my camera chose crazily high which created all sorts of noise. There is something very difficult for me about showing my flaws and most authentic self. I guess we all want to be good at something and protect our fragile egos. Today I am taking a big step for me and highlighting my mistakes. We all make mistakes and it is okay. I'll keep repeating this to myself and let it sink in until I believe it. I must be a good example to my kids, trying to be perfect can create unrealistic expectations and great anxiety.
