I love quake and aspen trees, and especially in the autumn season when the leaves turn to "gold".
Have a wonderful week everyone!
Not during a storm for sure. In fact the susurration of the tide going out was a mere whisper. Just a caress when for a moment in time you could believe all was well in the world........
Last weekend Colin Hakeman was in town from the US on a big whirlwind Europe trip so I spent Sunday showing him around my backyard. He picked a good day as the TEE from the DB Museum Koblenz was making four trips. However, he brought the PNW weather with him (Not really, the weather has sucked here in general this spring) and photo conditions in the Rhine Valley were abysmal all day. However, the forecast predicted some clearing near Mainz in the evening so I had planned to shoot the last trip on the Kaiserbrücke in Mainz. Well, I miscalculated how long it would take to get to Mainz versus how long the train should take. By the trains timetable it would have been too tight so rather than risk seeing the thing blast past while sitting in the RB, I decided we should bail at Gau-Algesheim to try for some sort of shot. Im not sure if the sun was out in Mainz but it sure was as the TEE empty stock move came screaming by us at what looked like full 150 km/h track speed. Even the last cars had pulled away from the allotment garden parking lot leaving us with a absolutely pure Bundesbahn era scene. The gap of the clouds lasted until sundown and we were treated to a procession of freights after the TEE as well. So thanks Colin for giving me some motiviation to get trackside on this day!
Vivica awoke to snuffles right by her ear... her heart stopped for a moment as her mind struggled to understand the velvety muzzle of Chocolate Moose sniffling around her. But she realised with relief that he must have made the scary noises she’d heard!
Just as she relaxed... they both jumped as the doors rattled loudly and there was an awful scream outside :o

Walk and touch peace every moment.
Walk and touch happiness every moment.
Each step brings a fresh breeze.
Each step makes a flower bloom.
Kiss the Earth with your feet.
Bring the Earth your love and happiness.
The Earth will be safe

A truly memorable morning on the Snowdon Horseshoe. This was the four shot panoramic view from near the top of the climb up to the start of the Crib Goch ridge, looking straight down to the Bwlch y Moch where you can make out the Pyg track crossing the ridge line. Down to the left is the Pass of Llanberis, and you can just make out a white coach making its way up to the top of the pass - Pen y Pass. Rising above the pass to the left is Glyder Fawr with it's head in the clouds, and a little to the right is Gyder Fach. In the right centre of the image in the distance you can see part of Moel Siabod, it's summit obscured by the near cloud. In the lower centre right is crags of Carreg Gwalch rising above the Llyn Teryn (the smaller lake) and finally part of Llyn Llydaw can be seen bottom right. When I set off that morning the sky was cloudless, but as I climbed up the clouds moved in quite spectacularly, and wreathed the hills in turbulent mist. Unfortunately I could not get the shot I came for - the view along the Crib Goch to the summit of Yr Wyddfa - as heavy cloud settled over the summit for the whole day. Although the cloud lifted from most of the mountain in the afternoon, I got the best of the conditions early on, and the it made for a really special day.

A fun 5 minutes at the BBOWT Ragpits today. I visited with my macro setup looking for insects. While walking through the woodland an energetic fracas was forthcoming. A stoat had eyed up this edible doormouse but the fluffy mammal was having none of it. It quickly decided I was less of a threat than a hungry mustelid so began using me as a defence plan. Due to the speed of events and having a macro lens on my camera I was unable to capture a shot of the stoat. However the Glis Glis posed long enough and close enough for the 100mm macro lens to get a shot or two. Not a brilliant image by any means but it is not often I see one of these during the day.

Here is another favorite from my unplanned Batten Kill Railroad chase as Alco RS3 (blt. 9/52) 4116 running light crosses Main Street in the center of Cambridge near MP 136.9 on the old Delaware and Hudson Washington Branch trundling north to Greenwich Junction. To read how this total impromptu chase came about check out the caption with this photo: flic.kr/p/2kZRHTw

This time he raced past me across the intersection and was gone in a flash.
