Match of the hard hitting smashers. Taiwan's No. 1 seed Chou Tien Chen over China's Qiao Bin 21-12, 18-21, 21-16 in a pulsating match to reach the finals of the Singapore Badminton Open 2018,

From the volcano eruption in Geldingadalur, Iceland. This is from my second trip there, in May in a flight. The crader is much bigger and the eruption is pulsating but the lava flow is steady. The area I walked on in the first time is now under lava. It was snowing most of the time, making photoshooting not easy.

People don't usually associate Aurora Borealis with the west of Ireland and why would they, we are situated well south of the Artic. However, when conditions are right, we sometimes get a treat!! St. Patrick's night 2015 was one of those nights when everything aligned and we were given a very special treat!! Here is a short time-lapse condensing 71 minutes to less than 30 seconds. Even with an ultra wide angle lens I couldn't capture it all as at one point it was pulsating over head, magical.

This is a photo of patterns in the two tone sand on the shore of the river that flows across Calm Harbour Beach. The photo has been copied and mirrored to create an iconic vision of bilateral symmetry and pulsating shamanic energies.

With GLC adding 6 axle locomotives to the roster, it is certainly a move to bigger power, and the biggest diesel power their St. Charles Branch has ever seen. Despite its size, the biggest power on the roster is dwarfed by the old growth Oak that stands next to the branch line. Working back into Owosso with a fully loaded grain train, the sound of pulsating 6 axles and older 4 axles fill the night air.

"Imagine a place where the sky is cloaked in mystic sigils, their intricate patterns intermingling with the eerie light of the moon. Here, amidst a landscape where brambles wrestle with vegetation and springs, life and death engage in a peculiar dance. The air is thick with an otherworldly energy, pulsating with the rhythm of unseen forces at play. In this realm, every shadow conceals secrets, and every whisper carries echoes of ancient tales. It is a place where the boundaries between the natural and supernatural blur, and where the essence of life itself seems to teeter on the edge of a delicate balance between chaos and harmony." Richard de Grataine

I had such an amazing morning today I simply couldn't believe my good fortune. In addition to having a delightful time with a Virginia Rail male I stumbled upon this female Baltimore Oriole busily building her hanging, basket-like nest.

She would bring a load of long dry grass and would go inside the nest and weave the pieces into the basket. While she was inside I could see patches of her orange and black feathers peeking through the unfinished wall sections. And when she was in there she poked and pushed and weaved so energetically that the whole structure was pulsating and shaking. In the above image I just got a shot of her emerging from the top of the nest and then quick as a wink she flew off, presumably to get some more building material.

Haven't I told before that Dutch summers are as unpredictable as anything ? This day was another fine example of it, albeit not for the birds.

In a shady spot in our backyard, I heard a rapid breathing with a somewhat hoarse and pulsating sound. I discovered this house sparrow that was visibly struggling with this - also for us Dutch - tropical temperature of 35 degrees celsius.

Fortunately the sparrow survived although I had my doubts about it, but all's well that ends well!

Exiled from your village on false charges, unknowingly ending up in the Eleventh Nome, the realm of the trickster god Seth. Having no food nor water, your vision blurs and mirages appear and fade rather often.

You stumble upon a very odd sight.. mirrors impaled into the dune and a troop of elephants marching along. Though the strangest sights was this beauty among them, one hand holding a stake-shaped dagger with the other holding a mysterious, pulsating red orb. She'd tilt her head to the side and offer out the throbbing crimson marble toward you with the hand holding the dagger brandishing it rather poignantly with only a singular word: "Choose."

If you decide to test your luck for a painful salvation, you can take the quaking Meteora Core until May 18th, or if you truly wish to resign yourself to a swift, painful death then her sharp Pandora Dagger.

Hubble rocks out with heavy metal stars!

This 10.5-billion-year-old globular cluster, NGC 6496, is home to heavy-metal stars of a celestial kind! The stars comprising this spectacular spherical cluster are enriched with much higher proportions of metals — elements heavier than hydrogen and helium are curiously known as metals in astronomy — than stars found in similar clusters.

A handful of these high-metallicity stars are also variable stars, meaning that their brightness fluctuates over time. NGC 6496 hosts a selection of long-period variables — giant pulsating stars whose brightness can take up to, and even over, a thousand days to change — and short-period eclipsing binaries, which dim when eclipsed by a stellar companion.

The nature of the variability of these stars can reveal important information about their mass, radius, luminosity, temperature, composition, and evolution, providing astronomers with measurements that would be difficult or even impossible to obtain through other methods.

NGC 6496 was discovered in 1826 by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop. The cluster resides at about 35,000 light-years away in the southern constellation of Scorpius (The Scorpion).

What a sad picture...like someone is waiting forever for something. A loved one has passed and the sorrow of the survivor(s) is depicted in this memorial statue. Grief is also displayed...maybe a grief that can never be released until one has joined the loved one on the other side of hope.

Is there ever closure in grief?

The Stainless sculpture by Judy Darragh

After visiting the LA Car Museum, Auckland artist Judy Darragh was so taken by the folly, and failure, of the DeLorean car, the time machine in the 1985 movie Back to the Future, she was inspired to create an exhibition based around its 'wonder material'. Darragh has created a playful, shiny world of make-believe that features intriguing, pulsating objects.

Largely using stainless steel kitchenware, Darragh strips colanders, bowls and measuring cups of their domestic role to form works that are not what they seem. Judy Darragh has long held a concern for the flagrant waste of the consumer society, and a passion for reusing and restoring unwanted materials in surprising ways. She is interested in the constant desire for abundance as well as ideas around failure, in manufacturing as well as our personal lives.

Early morning, driving very slowly, I watched this young Coyote cross the road in front of me and follow invisible scent trails through the prairie dog town. It looks like I was lying flat on my stomach, but I actually made this shot from the rolling red Toyota blind. I had stopped on a slight rise. The prairie flattened out at the top, where the dogtown began.

More Coyote shots coming... fall is the season to look for them in my area, as the tourists thin out to few or none, and the pups have grown to full size and are dispersing - and often unafraid of us humans. Just when the migratory birds disappear to the south, other photo-ops present themselves. This place pulsates with life.

Play of lights in the port - when container giants meet trails of light.

Hamburg - a city that never sleeps and inspires me to pull out my camera every time.

This picture captures the magic of the port of Hamburg at night. A huge container ship is moored at the terminal while blue and red cranes work tirelessly. The lights of the ship and the port facilities bathe the scene in a warm glow. In the foreground, a passing passenger ship leaves a striking trail of light through the picture - a vivid sign of movement in this pulsating metropolis.

Thanks to the long exposure, dynamism and stillness merge into a fascinating interplay of light and reflections on the water. The almost windless night - a rarity in the Hanseatic city - intensified the calm, almost magical atmosphere of this moment.

* Description de la photo :

- IC 1442, NGC 7245, NGC 7226, NGC 7175, NGC 7234, NGC 7261, NGC 7281. Tous ces objets sont des amas ouverts.

* Matériel :

- Canon EOX 1200 D défiltré partiel (IRPhotomax)

- Samyang 135 mm f/2 @ f/2.8

- Star Adventurer 2i

* Conditions : ciel très clair, lune absente le premier soir, nouvelle les autres soirs, mais prise de vue au coucher du soleil peu au dessus de l'horizon, donc gradient important.

* EXIFs :

- 272+269 (2 nuits) brutes de 60s (soit 4h40+4h29) sans filtre (traitement RVB) + 286 brutes de 90s (soit 5h29) avec filtre L-Enhance (traitement HOO)

- 800 iso

- 60 darks 60s et 45 darks 90s, 3 séries de 40 flats (1 par nuit), 40 offsets.

* Traitement : Siril puis post-traitement GIMP

During a visit to my family in the south, I took advantage of three very clear nights in the south of France to set up an astro-bivouac on top of Gros Cerveau above Sanary-sur-Mer and image the Elephant Trunk Nebula, which I had never photographed before. This nebula is located in the constellation Cepheus, and is well observable (in astrophotography only) in the summer sky as it rises early in the night. I had two RGB sessions and one HOO session (with an Optolong L-Enhance filter). The photo presented here is a compilation of 14 hours and 38 minutes of exposure. The details regarding the photograph are provided below (EXIFs).

Anecdote: The only evening I didn’t go up, Friday, May 10, 2024, I spent a long evening with friends. It was the only night with significant auroras... which I did not see! The next evening (Saturday, May 11) when I returned to the deserted mountain top from the previous night, people were rushing to observe the auroras which... did not show up that night. But several people took the opportunity to spend an evening with me, and I enjoyed introducing them to the nebulae and other clusters visible that night, allowing them to make some beautiful observations with my binoculars.

* Description of the photo:

In the photo, two large luminous nebulae and dark nebulae are visible. The astrometry provided here (nova.astrometry.net/annotated_full/10666855) lists other objects of interest.

- IC 1396 (Elephant Trunk Nebula): This is the large nebula on the right side of the photo. IC 1396, which resembles the Rosette Nebula, also contains a cluster at its center. It is an emission nebula located about 2400 light-years (LY) away. It is named after a dark nebula, clearly visible to the right of its center in the photo, which contains a nebular globule, an active star formation region. The very visible star at the top of the nebula that illuminates it is named the Garnet Star or Erakis; it is mu-Cephei, a pulsating variable star in a double system.

- SH 2-132 / LBN 473 (Lion Nebula) and LDN 1150 and 1154: This nebula is produced by the ionization of gas by two very hot stars, Wolf-Rayet stars HD 211564 and HD 211853. It is located 10,400 light-years away, much farther than IC 1396. To the right of the nebula, two darker regions are visible. These are LDN 1150 and LDN 1154, two dark nebulae (clouds of interstellar dust).

- Zeta-Cephei, LBN 479, and LBN 474: At the top of the photo, there is a very bright star surrounded on the left and right by two faint nebulae. The star is Zeta-Cephei, a red supergiant in an eclipsing binary system located 840 LY away. To the left is LBN 479 and to the right is LBN 474, two clouds of ionized hydrogen lit by Zeta-Cephei.

- B174 / LDN 1165: To the right of Zeta-Cephei, above IC 1396, a large region marbled with dark nebulae is visible. I won’t name them all, but the largest is B174.

- Kruger 60: Listed in the astrometry as Kruger 60, this object is a double star of magnitude 9.8. It is a pair of red dwarf stars very close to each other, with an average distance of 9.5 astronomical units (AU), equivalent to the distance from the Sun to Saturn, varying from 5.5 AU to 13.5 AU.

- IC 1442, NGC 7245, NGC 7226, NGC 7175, NGC 7234, NGC 7261, NGC 7281: All these objects are open clusters.

* Equipment:

- Canon EOX 1200D (partially modified by IRPhotomax)

- Samyang 135mm f/2 @ f/2.8

- Star Adventurer 2i

* Conditions:

Very clear sky, no moon on the first night, new moon on the other nights, but shooting at sunset just above the horizon, creating a significant gradient.

* EXIFs:

- 272+269 (2 nights) raw images of 60s each (4h40+4h29) without a filter (RGB processing) + 286 raw images of 90s each (5h29) with L-Enhance filter (HOO processing)

- 800 ISO

- 60 darks of 60s and 45 darks of 90s, 3 sets of 40 flats (1 per night), 40 offsets.

A silhouetted, rapier-like peninsula piercing the radiant splendour of a pewter-grey sea.

Domed islands capped by the heavenly spokes of a setting-sun.

Timeless beauty.

Silence, but for the distant scream of a gull and the gentle, pulsating whistle of an oyster-catcher.

Sky, rock, sand, light and sea uniquely combine

to produce a glimpse inside heaven’s door.

Don’t yearn for heaven.

Look around.

It’s already here!

Squat, cryptically-plumaged shorebird with a very long bill. Inhabits a wide range of wetland habitats, from damp meadows to saltmarshes. Mostly inconspicuous, feeding in muddy ground by probing with its bill, usually near reeds or other grassy cover. Often not seen until flushed, when it usually rises from fairly close range with a rough rasping call. Breeding birds are more conspicuous, perching on fence posts. In display flight, birds stoop from high overhead and produce a pulsating, bleating sound from air passing through their fanned tail.

Can't think of a better title... lol. Made me wonder if it pulsates or it vibrates !!!! Just kidding.. But I'm sure, it is strong, bereft in size but rich in length.. hahaha. Since time of the Mayans and the Aztecs, symbolism was prevalent as a way to represent something. What would this be? of course, your guess is as good as mine - a flower... :-)

The Imperial Lodge (Keisarinmaja) is the oldest building for tourism in Lapland; it was built in 1882 on the hill for visitors to the area. Refreshments were served in the lodge and it also provided shelter in bad weather. The hunting lodge was given the name Imperial Lodge in preparation for a visit to Lapland by the Tsar of Russia and the Grand Duke of Finland. A visit to Aavasaksa was planned as part of the Tsar’s itinerary but due to the unstable political situation at the time, the Tsar’s visit was cancelled. The lodge represents a mixed romantic style with a blend of neoclassic, Karelian, Byzantine and Viking overtones. The pillars and arches are decorative, the wall panels are patterned and the rich carvings on the decorated window surroundings have ornamentation reminiscent of Karelia. Some of the furnishings in the lodge are original. The lodge is owned by Metsähallitus and its use is supervised by the National Board of Antiquities.

Your Flight to KLUB 15

The doors swung open, revealing a vibrant world pulsating with energy. Neon lights bathed the entrance in a kaleidoscope of colors, casting a surreal glow on the eager crowd. The bass of disco music throbbed through the air, vibrating with an irresistible rhythm. Glitter rained down from the ceiling, catching the light and creating a sparkling rain. The atmosphere was a mixture of euphoria and freedom, as the revelers moved to the music with carefree abandon, lost in the magic of KLUB 15.

Interview with the artist gbth.org/GBTH-Magazine-20

in the heart of santa catalina, a district known for its pulsating energy in palma de mallorca, the night whispers stories on its walls. here, under the cloak of darkness, a solitary figure traverses the graffiti-laden alley, his silhouette a fleeting ghost against the chiaroscuro of streetlights and shadows. this monochromatic scene captures the essence of the night—a fusion of art, mystery, and the quiet drama of urban exploration.
