Poem ― Suzy Kassem, Rise Up and Salute the Sun

Walking through the Inhotim gardens is more than just contemplating its exuberance. Inserted in the remaining forested portion of the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado – two of the richest biomes in biodiversity and, at the same time, threatened on the planet – the Institute is a pulsating field for scientific research and a tool for conservation and environmental education.

In 2010, Inhotim was recognized as a Botanical Garden, a title awarded by the National Commission of Botanical Gardens (CNJB). The gardens, which began to be built in the 1980s, were designed by Pedro Nehring, who is still responsible for the landscaping of Inhotim. Between 2000 and 2004, Luiz Carlos Orsini signed the 25-hectare landscaping project. Today, the Institute is a national and international reference in contemporary tropical landscaping.

In total, there are more than 140 hectares of visitation area, in addition to an extension of 250 hectares of Inhotim Private Natural Heritage Reserve (RPPN). The Inhotim Botanical Garden (JBI) manages the collection and botanical collections, comprising more than 4,300 native Brazilian and exotic species from around the world, in addition to researching and monitoring the Institute's natural heritage.

In 2021, Instituto Inhotim was awarded the Grant Awarded – BGCI’s Global Botanic Garden Fund, an international incentive that recognizes and supports projects that work towards plant conservation.

Starlight.

While the moon is sinking in the Gulf of Messinia, in the light of the stars that shimmers and dissolves in the galactic waves of the blue night sky that pulsates with the creation of energy and life, a dead tree is narrated to the stars:

A core was once hidden inside me, a spark, a thought, I was life from eternal life. The shape and the veins of my bark, of my leaves on my branches were unique. I became to shape and reveal eternity in my smallest detail.

But now I am like one of you, the white dwarfs who burned their matter and their nucleus, and I travel with you in space and time…

Early winter on a late pewter light afternoon...the aged maples are spreading their skeletal branches once again. I have revisited this farm lane many times this past year only to discover new nuances of beauty and a lasting serenity like none other. The terrain is high here and the wind sweeps across the farmland with a pulsating rhythm and audible breathe. Birds scurry and abandon themselves to flight while the crisp air clings to the lungs and sheds aromas of seasonal earthiness. Ashfield, MA

Have a peaceful weekend everyone.

Thank you so much for dropping by my photostream and leaving all the kind comments. They are very much appreciated.

FACTS:

Fairly common in wetland habitats from damp meadows to saltmarshes. Mostly inconspicuous, feeding in muddy ground by probing with its very long bill, usually near reeds or other grassy cover. Often not seen until flushed, when usually rises from fairly close range with rough rasping call. Breeding birds are more conspicuous, perching on fence posts. Note cryptic, stripy plumage, very long bill. In Asia and Australasia, beware of extremely similar Pin-tailed, Swinhoe's, and Latham's Snipes, all of which lack the white trailing edge of Common and have a slower, less erratic flight. In display flight, birds stoop from high overhead and produce a pulsating, bleating sound from air passing through their fanned tail.

The Andromeda Galaxy (Messier 31) is the nearest large galaxy to our own Milky Way and one of the most magnificent objects in the night sky. Visible as a faint small smudge from a dark site on a moonless night, M31 is a gigantic aggregation of hundreds of billions of stars at a distance of about 2.5 million light years.

Once thought to be a nebula inside our own Galaxy, its true nature was discovered by Edwin Hubble in 1925, which measured the distance of this "island universe" by studying a special class of pulsating stars known as Cepheids.

M31 is classified as a spiral galaxy with its galactic plane inclined about 13 degrees to our line of sight, and it is therefore seen nearly edge-on. It has, as our own Galaxy, a number of smaller satellite galaxies, the most prominent of which are M32 (the bright, star-like concentration at bottom right at the edge of the spiral arm) and M110, the more extended bright patch at upper left. Astronomers have found evidence of a massive black hole at the center of this galaxy (as is the case for our own Milky Way).

They have also calculated that we are in a collision course with our grand neighbor in space: approaching each other at a speed of about 100 Km/sec, the two galaxies will collide in about 4 billion years and maybe merge into a giant elliptical galaxy.

The Blue Springs nature reserve - a landscape nature reserve located in the south-eastern part of Tomaszów Mazowiecki, in the Tomaszów poviat, in the Łódź voivodeship. The reserve is located in the buffer zone of the Sulejowski Landscape Park, which is part of the Nadpiliczne Landscape Parks complex.

The reserve was established to protect the picturesque blue karst springs and to preserve the refuges of numerous bird species. On its territory there is an alder forest which is their refuge. The reserve also includes the strongly pulsating limnocrene-type springs that give rise to the Jana River. Their charm lies in the fact that the sand is knocked out of the bottom by the sand, which when seen through the water surface has a unique blue-blue-green color, the shades of which depend on the weather, the degree of sunlight or cloud cover . Pure water from calcareous springs absorbs red rays and lets blue and green rays reflected from the bottom, which can be observed.

Vibes..

There is a space now contaminated ..

between emotions and scars ..

Where impassable boundaries are often set, but then ..

a sudden acceleration overwhelms you ..

that heartbeat that pulsates because you are alive, contracts for a reason ..

tu tum .. tu tum .. tu tum ..

pure adrenaline..

and that powerful sound spreads through the air ..

like an enveloping hug .. touch our senses ..

and in the grip of that moment ..

the only need is to want to vibrate ..

and so, you let yourself swing becoming greedy ..

Grapes, Lemons, Pears, and Apples (Paris, 1887) - detail

This is one of a group of related canvases featuring seasonal fruit that Vincent van Gogh painted in the fall of 1887. In these works, he simplified his palette, employed more vibrant colors, and used a thicker, broader paint application than he had earlier. Here he explored the use of complementary colors—yellow and purple, blue and orange, and red and green—in the service of chromatic intensity. The effect of these color contrasts is heightened by the pulsating pattern of brushstrokes that defines the tablecloth and creates a force field around the fruit. The painting was probably among the “violent still lifes”—to quote Van Gogh’s friend the painter Emile Bernard—that he included in the group exhibition of young avant-garde artists that he organized at a local restaurant in November–December 1887.

NGC2359 is an emission nebula in the Canis Major constellation, around 12000 light years from earth.

While the overall colours in the area are a fairly common sight for these type of targets (the usual emissions), the thing that stands out is the peculiar shape of the central structure (often referred to as Thor's Helmet, since with a bit of imagination it sort of looks like it). So what's going on there?

The culprit here is a so called "Wolf-Rayet" star in the center of the nebula. This is a massive star that's currently in the last stages of its life (on the edge of going supernova). What happens is that stars at that stage are essentially a delicate balancing act, with gravity pulling inwards and radiation pressure (coming from the nuclear fusion in the star's core) pushing outwards. This causes these stars to pulsate (contracting or expanding as one or the other temporarily gets the upper hand). These pulsations provide a mechanism for stellar material in the outer layers of the star (which is barely being held on to to being with) to get ejected out into space in what we call stellar wind. The effect of this stellar wind is what's shaping the nebula here.

This gentleman had just finished this piece, completed in a matter of minutes using spray paints on paper in front of a crowd of onlookers at the 2019 Oakland County Fair, in Davisburg, Michigan. He is interesting to watch, as he works very quickly to the beat of pulsating music, and periodically uses quick bursts of fire--in order to rapidly dry the paints, I believe.

One hundred love sonnets IV

You will remember that capricious quebrada

where the pulsating aromas climbed,

from time to time a bird dressed

with water and slowness: winter suit.

You will remember the gifts of the earth:

irascible fragrance, golden mud,

scrub grasses, crazy roots,

spell-like thorns like swords.

You will remember the bouquet you brought,

bouquet of shadow and water with silence,

bouquet like a stone with foam.

And that time was like never and always:

we go there where he does not expect anything

and we find everything that he is waiting for.

The Triangulum Galaxy (known as Messier 33 or NGC 598) is a beautiful large spiral galaxy in the constellation of Triangulum. It can be (barely) seen with the unaided eye as a faint small smudge only under a truly dark, transparent sky. It is thus one of the most distant objects visible to the unaided eye, since its distance is calculated to be about 3 million light-years. However and due to its relatively large apparent size (almost as large as the area covered by four full Moons), it has a low surface brightness and therefore it is a difficult object to observe under less than ideal conditions.

M33's loosely-wound spiral arms are filled with numerous reddish HII regions (emission nebulae of ionized hydrogen), as well as bluish clouds of young stars. Many of them have their own NGC numbers, the most prominent being NGC 604 (visible at the lower left of the spiral at 8 o' clock position from the nucleus). NGC 604 has a diameter of nearly 1,500 light-years and is estimated that it contains at least 200 newly-formed hot stars.

The galaxy was probably discovered in the 17th Century by Giovanni Batista Hodierna and rediscovered later in 1764 by Charles Messier, who gave it the catalog name M33. It was among the first "Nebulae" identified as extragalactic objects and it was E. Hubble that measured its distance using pulsating stars known as Cepheids, that placed it well outside our own Milky Way.

M33 is the third-largest galaxy of the Local Group, after the Andromeda Galaxy and our own Milky Way, with an estimated diameter of 50,000 light-years, about half the size of the Milky Way. Some astronomers believe that M33 may be a remote but gravitationally bound companion of the Andromeda galaxy.

During the years of the Berlin Wall, Postdamer Platz, where this staircase is located, literally was a no-man's land, a void at the heart of Berlin, a desert where once had been the pulsating centre of the city. With the exception of the "Weinhaus Huth" and a few other ruins, the remaining buildings that had been spared by the bombs of WWII were, gradually, demolished - both on the East- and the West Berlin side of Potsdamer Platz. After the wall came down, Potsdamer Platz slowly came back to life, but it still took about 20 years before the first new buildings were finished.

Taken during a photowalk with Flickr friends natalie-photoart and broombesoom from North Rhine-Westphalia, and A_Peach and Sabine.R from Berlin. As so often, visitors see a city with different eyes than a local. I myself would probably have walked past the stairs (as so often before), but Natalie and Manuela found exactly this staircase interesting, which gave me the idea to take a photo there in the first place - so thank you (also) for that :-).

Potsdamer Platz, although long since revived, inhabited, re-built, crowded even, sometimes still gives you the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere which I guess is due to this certain artificiality the place exudes. And so, strangely enough, it was also difficult to find the exact location of the stairs on the map (although it wouldn't be a problem on the spot)...

Castleton Tower (officially, Castle Rock) is a 400-foot (120 m) Wingate Sandstone tower standing on a 1,000 foot Moenkopi-Chinle cone above the northeastern border of Castle Valley (near Moab), Utah.

It is one of the world’s largest free-standing rock towers. Castleton sways like a skyscraper in response to deep vibrations in the earth. Interestingly, scientists have measured these vibrations and found that they pulsate at about the rate of a human heartbeat.

The tower is world-renowned as a subject for photography and for its classic rock climbing routes.

Jellyfish and sea jellies are the informal common names given to the medusa-phase of certain gelatinous members of the subphylum Medusozoa, a major part of the phylum Cnidaria. Jellyfish are mainly free-swimming marine animals with umbrella-shaped bells and trailing tentacles, although a few are not mobile, being anchored to the seabed by stalks. The bell can pulsate to provide propulsion and highly efficient locomotion. The tentacles are armed with stinging cells and may be used to capture prey and defend against predators. Jellyfish have a complex life cycle; the medusa is normally the sexual phase, the planula larva can disperse widely and is followed by a sedentary polyp phase. Jellyfish are found all over the world, from surface waters to the deep sea. Scyphozoans (the true jellyfish) are exclusively marine, but some hydrozoans with a similar appearance live in freshwater. Large, often colorful, jellyfish are common in coastal zones worldwide. The medusae of most species are fast growing, mature within a few months and die soon after breeding, but the polyp stage, attached to the seabed, may be much more long-lived. Jellyfish have been in existence for at least 500 million years, and possibly 700 million years or more, making them the oldest multi-organ animal group. 28391

Susan had been a little worried about her husband lately. David had always been a loving, kind person. True, he was a little scatterbrained (he kept saying that about her, do you believe it?), living in his ivory tower, but that's how palaeontologists and professors with a faible for dinosaur skeleton reconstructions probably are. But recently, he had become increasingly secretive, always locking his lab, ensuring neither she nor foxterrier George would enter it, let alone catch a glimpse of his current work.

But Susan wouldn't be Susan ("scatterbrained, ha!") if she let herself be easily fobbed off by David's illogical and half-baked "explanations" of why she and George weren't allowed in his lab anymore: "A ground-breaking discovery, no one can know about it, yet", "too dangerous for you and George" – as if the birth of the Quetzalcoatlus Hemerocallis hadn't been groundbreaking enough. And dangerous? Was she a whimp? Hadn't it been her who had tamed "Quetzicallie" as they lovingly called the creature that now purred like a kitten and demanded pets all the time? No! It was time to find out the true reason for his strange behaviour. Now. She grabbed her picklock, called for George, and set to work.

15 minutes and a few swearings later ("he had the cheek to change the lock! Boy, you'll have to explain a lot!"), Susan and George inspected the lab. They found themselves particularly interested in a vibrantly green, unusually shaped crystal that emanated a pulsating glow and a low, somewhat creepy humming. While they took a closer look, George sniffing at the green stone excitedly, they were startled by a loud crash behind them. It was David, standing in the lab door, his tea cup shattered on the floor, splashes of tea everywhere, staring at them. "How could you? I told you, it's dangerous!" "What? That green rock? What is that anyway? Honey, you owe me an explanation. Pronto!" "Susan, darling, I... It's m... my preciou... It's... I believe it's Kryptonite. Susan! I found a Kryptonite crystal, the most dangerous mineral in the universe!" There was a moment of deep silence before Susan burst into uncontrollable laughter, giggling as she said: "Oh darling, my crazy, adorable sweetheart! We should take a break from watching those fantasy movies. They give you weird ideas." Editor's note: Susan, David, and George had only recently watched the entire "Superman" and "Lord of the Rings" franchises.

"But Susan, it's true, this is Kryp... Hey, George, what are you up to? No, stop that! George, Noooooooo!!!!" Too late, George had grabbed the green "rock", racing off to the garden, where they heard a distant barking that, strange enough, got louder and louder the farther George ran. And off they were on yet another "catch George mission", preferably catching him before he could scarf up that strange green crystal.

Size info: The "crystal" is 4 cm/1,57 inches at its widest. I did in-camera focus stacking (with a maximum of 15 images) and combined the images in Helicon Focus (method B, R8, S4). Hints at what you see are in the tags ;)

HMM, Everyone!

A gleaming halo of light

Rotates around its fixed staff

Like a relentless lasso

Stretching across a chalky sea,

Covering all it touches

With an adorning hope

That cannot be seized.

At night, its light pulsates

Like a beacon, a constant blaze

Passing over a jaded path.

No footprints are left from

Its endless wanderings,

Repeatedly retracing its steps,

It coils. Built to forget.

The forgetful lantern swings,

Its pendulum never ceasing,

Gliding over lighted buoys,

And boat hulls, and

Dancing on the oily wings of

Cormorants as they plunge

Down to the dark depths.

Pulsating City never sleeps. Ships waiting to unload their goods in Singapore Harbour. And the Gardens by the Bay are glittering......

My description is accurate the wispy bits above the granaries were flashing and moving like a strobe light!

Brad Russell and I moved from the reflecting pond to this farm to capture a new composition. I captured myself when the other photographers left the location giving my the light

As I stood on the banks of the Douro river in Porto, with a glass of red wine on one hand an my camera on the other hand, I was mesmerized by the fabulous scene that unfolded before my eyes. The colorful facades of buildings lined the waterfront, creating a breathtaking panorama of vibrant hues that seemed to dance in harmony with the sparkling waters. It was a true feast for the senses, a tapestry of architectural beauty and bustling activity.

The buildings, standing tall and proud, showcased a stunning array of colors. Shades of red, yellow, blue, and green adorned each facade, creating a kaleidoscope of vibrant tones that brought the riverside to life. The architecture itself was a testament to the city's rich history and cultural heritage, with each building boasting unique characteristics and intricate details.

Amidst this backdrop, the river teemed with life. Barcas, traditional wooden boats, navigated the waters, ferrying excited tourists who were eager to explore Porto's enchanting charm. Laughter and animated conversations filled the air as the boats glided along the river, their cheerful presence adding to the lively atmosphere.

The buildings stood shoulder to shoulder, forming a picturesque cluster that exuded a sense of community and shared history. Their facades leaned slightly towards one another, as if whispering secrets and stories of days gone by. The narrow streets and alleys that weaved through the buildings invited exploration, promising hidden gems and delightful surprises at every turn.

The sunlight played a game of hide-and-seek, casting its warm glow upon the facades, accentuating their vibrant colors and casting gentle reflections on the rippling river. The interplay of light and shadow added depth and texture to the scene, enhancing the visual feast that unfolded before me.

As I took in this captivating panorama, I couldn't help but be in awe of the vibrant energy and charm that Porto emanated. The combination of the lively barcas, the multicolored facades, and the buzzing activity created a scene that was both dynamic and captivating. It was a testament to the city's vibrant spirit, its ability to embrace its rich history while embracing the excitement of the present.

In that moment, I felt lucky to have witnessed this fabulous scene, to have been immersed in the pulsating heart of Porto. It was a visual symphony that celebrated the beauty of architecture, the vibrancy of colors, and the joy of shared experiences. Porto had truly cast its spell on me, and I knew that the memories of this captivating scene would forever hold a special place in my heart.

In the land of rising trees

Whose beauty forever lingers

Falling on your soft knees

Their hardness fills your fingers

As they grow so very tall

Pulsating under the skies

Your hands rise and they fall

Until you hear the cries

Of the birds erupting above

Before your eyes they race

Fingers covered in sweet love

That falls on natures face

Black and white photography featuring drifting jellyfish. These creatures are strangely elegant with their swaying tentacles and pulsating movement. What makes this photograph one of my favourites is the composure created by the grouped up jellyfish and contrast from a clean white background.

The structure is etched with vertical elements which give modulation, structure, protection from the sun, and resolve the whole building. Variable profiles are subtly modeled within a smooth and continuous design, where plans delicately suggest themselves. An ever-changing facade varies with the light, half-light, or shadow, and changes from more opaque and mysterious, to more transparent, revealing the light pulsating within it. a most amazing aurora with fast moving bright aurora patches, I posted a shot I called the pulsating wisps and that is accurate

This is a recurring but seldom observed behavior in insects of different families and orders. The small animals choke out a more or less clear drop, hold it briefly with their mouthparts, and then suck it in again with their proboscis (in the case of flies). The whole thing is repeated several times - the drop appears again and again on the mouth, is choked out in a pulsating manner and then sucked in again. Sometimes the drop gets bigger and bigger.

The reason for this behavior has not yet been conclusively clarified

Got a glimpse of the sunset in between the trees in the forest. It appeared like a glowing ball in the middle of the trees. Like it was hovering on the inside. Like a ball in mid air. Glowing, pulsating..
