It is a crazy notion to think that the moon, roughly 240,000 miles away from the Earth, can exhibit its subtle influence on a body as massive as the ocean, changing.... nay causing tides. And to think, as I sit there watching all that slowly happen that that same moon all those thousands of miles away has its pull on me too. In that respect the ocean and I have something in common.
With the Y119 turn from Saginaw on the drawbar, LSRC 6431 and friends pull into the former PM/C&O/CSX McGrew Yard in Flint, MI.
With the return train (and power) for Saginaw already staged at the north end of the yard, the crew will tie this train down and then hop on their return ride home. Lake State runs a tight ship, and this crew will get to sleep in their own beds tonight.
LSRC 6431 was formerly UP 4608, purchased by the Lake State in 2022.

I went out early this morning in hopes of getting an adult light morph Ferruginous Hawk my buddy photographed yesterday. As I drove down this road I passed by this very dark hawk. I flipped around and drove past it again. I didn't see a red tail. I knew at that instant I had in front of my eyes my most sought after raptor! Dark Morph Ferruginous Hawk!! I pulled up slowly and it was so close I knew I had to execute without hesitation. I shut my car off and let that shutter fly. This was taken 10 minutes after sunrise in overcast rain cloud conditions. It seemed like an eternity that he stood here. I'm glad he chose this post instead of the metal one that was to the left. The light was very dim, but it was no problem for the autofocus. Click for large view.!

We pulled way north and got back into southern Nebraska. Now on the backside of this thunderstorm. Intense cc lighting was to good to pass up.
We pulled off just north of Alma Nebraska. Pointed the lens due south and captured some of the best lightning of 2015

Kingsburg, Ca.
The Kingsburg Historical Society, of which I'm a board member, is in the process of moving a one hundred-plus-year-old church from the countryside to the historical society park, and then will be renovating it. I've taken over a thousand photos documenting the move, most or which most people will find pretty boring. So I shan't be posting too many, but every now and then something might spring up.
In this image, the church has arrived at the park and is being pulled into it's new site. The building to the upper right is an old country school that was also moved to the park a number of years ago.

the macromonday theme for yesterday, 1/28, was cloth/fabric and i've got a couple of "almost ran"s.... this is the same piece of cloth (see the first comment box) and as i look at it, this is almost a star.
The last untouched Chicago and North Western AC4400CW, or CW 44 AC as C&NW called it, CNW 8828. It's Operation Lifesaver scheme beautifully reflecting the sunset as it pulls a loaded grain train across the Kansas Pacific in far eastern Colorado. The 8828 had a long trip ahead with this Oakley, KS - Kalama, WA train. In 5 months she would become UP 6730, surviving an additional 11 years! in CNW paint before become a full UP repaint in 2016.

Holy wow- this is the first set of photos I've taken in a while that I'm genuinely happy with the finish on- hooray!
Evie's Obitsu came yesterday, so I did the hybrid thing (she's still sporting her oroginal chestplate), and I have to say, I think I've finally bonded with her now- I can do so much more with her at last!
Someone pulled the plug for the Grand Union Canal at Braunston, and one narrowboat seems well and truly stuck, although this particular boat seems to be constantly moored here. The water was drained from these sectuions to allow repair work to the locks, and some new gates fitted.

It's a tough life in the world of a celebrity. All I wanted to do was go home after a long day shooting my new video, put my feet up, and have a glass of wine. I got as far as my vintage sofa when I thought I heard something behind me. I turned to look and it wasn't something, it was someone! It's one thing to have to fight the paparazzi when I'm out shopping, but now my home has been invaded by the paparazzi, too! This is really getting out of hand. Where is my umbrella?!?

I found myself suddenly caught off guard as the door swung open. I'd entered the Chapel to take a look around as the windows had looked very colourful from the outside.
I was unsure why, but I had a strong urge to hide as I heard what seemed like two pairs of heavy boots striding towards me. Being partly hidden behind the pulpit, I pulled myself quietly down behind the choir stalls just in time.
Two men began to discuss something.
"Do you have it?", said the first.
"Yes, here," replied the second.
I could see through a hole in the choir stall that they were knights and under their weather worn cloaks was armour bearing a red cross on a white background.
"We must hide it before we take it to the safety of the Abbot's keeping in Glastonbury. We cannot travel with it today, as I fear that they'll find us and take it."
"Yes," was the simple reply.
I heard them moving something that sounded heavy, made of stone, but I couldn't see what it was. Then they moved it again, and made their way out of the Chapel.
I waited what seemed like an age before I felt I could escape, and left as quickly as I could. I knew someone could be watching and I might be in grave danger, but I made my way out of the Chapel and into the trees behind it. No one came after me.
