Children & Youth Affairs Minister James Reilly publishes major report on childcare
Minister for Children and Youth Affairs James Reilly has today published a major report which proposes how best to invest in childcare services over the coming years.
The report puts forward options to enhance affordability for parents, improve the quality of services and outcomes for children, and promote greater accessibility in the sector.
Commenting on the report, Minister Reilly said:
Affordability, quality and accessibility are the big concerns for us all. This document offers a clear vision for future investment in early years and school-age services. It represents the most ambitious, detailed and costed plan for childcare ever produced by Government, and it follows a period of very productive consultation with parents, providers and the general public.
Some of the key recommendations in the report include:
A longer period of parental leave to enhance outcomes in the first year of a child’s life;
An enhanced ECCE provision (currently the ‘free pre-school year’) which would be extended to the point at which primary school starts;
and
A new, single subsidy scheme for pre-school and school-going children with simplified eligibility based on income.
At today’s launch Minister Reilly said:
I am pleased that the Group has looked in depth at the international evidence. It has pointed to the shortfalls in the current provision in Ireland and has put forward costed options which can be of real benefit to children, parents, families and society. As the economy improves, we now have opportunity for strategic investment that will help achieve better outcomes for children, offer greater supports to parents, improve quality, and upskill the sector.

Martedì 19 dicembre, al Mediolanum Forum di Assago a Milano si terrà il Concerto d’Addio di Elio e le Storie Tese. Sul palco: Elio (voce), Faso (basso), Cesareo (chitarra), Christian Meyer (batteria), Jantoman (tastiere), Vittorio Cosma (tastiere), Paola Folli (voce) e Mangoni (artista a sé).
«Sarà mica allora che quello del 19 dicembre 2017 al Mediolanum Forum di Assago non è il Concerto d’Addio degli EelST? Sì, e no – afferma la band - Sì: il concerto di domani è davvero il Concerto d’Addio degli EelST. Sarà una grande festa, quasi tre ore di musica, con una scaletta costruita a partire dalle preferenze espresse dai fan, che hanno votato le canzoni sulla pagina Facebook della band. No: non sarà l’ultimissimo concerto degli EelST».
Elio e le Storie Tese saranno in gara con il brano “Arrivedorci” al 68° Festival di Sanremo, il loro quarto e ultimo festival della canzone italiana. Commentano: «Perché, se si sciolgono veramente, vanno in gara al Festival di Sanremo? Per vari motivi. Intanto perché Claudio Baglioni li ha invitati a presentare una canzone. E se gli EelST gliel’hanno mandata è perché, dopo due piazzamenti al secondo posto (1996; 2013) e una rispettabile ma non abbastanza dodicesima posizione nel 2015, si sono voluti regalare un ultimo tentativo di raggiungere l’obiettivo di sempre: arrivare penultimi al Festival di Sanremo. L’inedita “Arrivedorci” è piaciuta. Il percorso verso il diciannovesimo posto è ufficialmente iniziato».
Dal 20 aprile saranno in tour in tutta Italia con il Tour d’Addio, per raggiungere tutti i fan che non sono riusciti a partecipare al Concerto d’Addio.
Raccontano: «Dopo avere preso atto di quanti avrebbero voluto, ma non hanno potuto, raggiungere Milano per partecipare alla festa al Mediolanum Forum, gli EelST hanno accettato la proposta di organizzare un altro giro di concerti. Un Tour d’Addio, che sarà però “a scadenza”: da consumarsi entro e non oltre il 30 giugno 2018. Con una sorpresa per i fan: il biglietto del concerto del Mediolanum Forum di Assago si potrà riutilizzare per ascoltare gli EelST quando il Tour passerà nella propria città».

Castello di Miramare
Castello di Miramare is a striking 19th.-century cliffside castle perched directly over the Gulf of Trieste in northeastern Italy. Built with shimmering white Istrian limestone, this fairytale palace seamlessly blends Gothic, Medieval, and Renaissance architectural styles.
-- History and a Tragic Legacy
The castle was commissioned in 1856 by Austrian Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Habsburg as a private romantic haven for himself and his wife, Princess Charlotte of Belgium.
Its name, Miramare, translates from Spanish to mean "look at the sea," reflecting the panoramic Adriatic views that completely surround the property.
The couple’s dream was however short-lived. In 1864, Maximilian left Italy in order to accept the crown as the Emperor of Mexico, where he was captured and executed by a firing squad in 1867.
Overcome with grief, Charlotte lost her sanity and spent decades in isolation. This dark history gave birth to the "Curse of Miramare," a local legend claiming that anyone who spends the night in the castle is destined to have a premature, tragic death in a foreign land.

Trieste
Trieste is a seaport city in northeast Italy and the capital of the autonomous region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Positioned on a narrow strip of land between the Adriatic Sea and the Slovenian border, it functions as a distinct cultural melting pot where Latin, Slavic, and Germanic influences intersect.

It was built for Archduke Maximilian of Austria, and features vast, beautifully manicured royal gardens that are free to explore.
• Layered History: You can walk through time within a few blocks. Explore the remarkably preserved Roman Theatre from the 1st. century AD at the foot of the hill, then head up to the medieval Castello di San Giusto for panoramic fortress views.
Down by the 1700's Canal Grande, you'll find a lively thoroughfare lined with restaurants, outdoor seating, and the iconic statue of James Joyce.

This photograph was published in the Illustrated Chronicle on the 8th November 1916
During the Great War the Illustrated Chronicle published photographs of soldiers and sailors from Newcastle and the North East of England, which had been in the news. The photographs were sent in by relatives and give us a glimpse into the past.
The physical collection held by Newcastle Libraries comprises bound volumes of the newspaper from 1910 to 1925. We are keen to find out more about the people in the photographs. If you recognise anyone in the images and have any stories and information to add please comment below.

Opening-act di Catfish and the Bottlemen, mercoledì 5 Febbraio 2020 all'Alcatraz di Milano, Lilian More.
Classe ’94, amante della musica fin da piccola, Linda Bosco in arte Lillian More si avvicina al sogno di diventare una musicista all’età di 9 anni appassionandosi alla musica Pop–Punk californiana dei Green Day e iniziando a suonare la chitarra a 10 anni da autodidatta. All’età di 14 inizia a scrivere i primi brani e a suonare in diversi progetti musicali, per poi incidere le prime demo due anni più tardi, completamente scritte e musicate da lei stessa.
Il sogno si trasforma in professione nel 2013, con la produzione e pubblicazione dell’EP “Now we Go!” anticipato dal singolo “We Don’t Care Anymore”. Il brano è stata lanciato a Casa Sanremo 2014 durante la settimana del Festival, riscuotendo grande successo. Dall’evento è partito un Radio Tour italiano di due settimane che ha toccato molte città italiane.Il singolo è stato trasmesso su oltre 500 emittenti radio FM italiane, radio streaming e reti televisive nazionali ed estere. L’anno successivo Lilian si esibisce live come artista emergente al “Festival Show 2014” trasmesso sulla rete nazionale di VERO Capri TV insieme ad artisti di fama nazionale ed internazionale.
Nel 2015, oltre a continuare a scrivere nuovi brani e ad esibirsi live, lancia il nuovo singolo dal titolo “Believe in Chance”. Il brano, realizzato nello stesso anno e prodotto da Lilian, viene presentato come potenziale singolo estivo alla celebre manifestazione dei Deejay OnStage 2015 a Riccione promossa da Radio Deejay. Su un numero di oltre 2000 artisti partecipanti, la giovane cantautrice arriva alla finalissima.
Nel 2017 Lilian dà vita ad una nuova Web Serie, dove racconta di sé in maniera sponteanea e senza filtri, realizzando cover di brani che hanno segnato la sua crescita artistica. I video diventano subito virali, raggiungendo più di 300.000 visualizzazioni totali.
A Maggio uscirà il suo nuovo singolo “Belong To No One”, che anticipa l’album atteso per la fine del 2017.
