Later in the day, we drove by once more to find that there were, in fact, some actual protestors. Sadly I cannot read any Thai, so if I hadn't already read the paper, I wouldn't have known what the protest was about.

Tens of thousands of protestors matched up Market Street for 90 minutes from The Embarcadero to City Hall. Local news outlets estimated the crowd at 50,000 people.
There were lots of creative signs and wacky costumes.
There were some police motorcycles leading the procession, but I didn't see any other police officers for the entire 90 minutes of people marching past or at City Hall. It seemed to be a completely peaceful event.
