"Where is Sri Lanka heading?"~700 cases of child abuse in 6 months!
Women gathered to protest against the current spate of incidents of violence against women and children in Sri Lanka. The protest was organised by Women for Women. The protest was held at Lipton Circus on 20th July 2012. Women demanded the authorities to take immediate action and bring the perpetrators to justice, rather than making inappropriate comments!

As the Koch-funded Americans for Prosperity partied inside the Washington Convention Center, Common Cause partied outside with the #OccupyTheKochs rally. More than 500 people (plus a few democracy-minded dogs) showed up to eat popcorn, watch Koch-inspired videos projected on buildings, and occupy the streets around the AFP party.

This afternoon, people spontaneously show up at city hall to ask for Mayor Rob Ford to resign. Many came with their own protest signs. A couple were making “Ford must go” buttons to give away. There are so many messages on the wall to demand him to resign. Pretty soon the wall was covered and the messages started to spill onto the concrete floor. One man came wearing his own Ford T shirt with his now infamous remark which been heard all over the world.

“The lead-up to Saturday’s protests against the TPPA shows the commitment of people across the country to send a message that the government can’t ignore”, said ItsOurFuture spokesperson Edward Miller.
A video shows young activists publicising Saturday’s nationwide protests with footage from Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, Christchurch, and Nelson.
Action in the 22 centres starts at 10am in Raglan and many of the larger centre marches begin at 1pm, including Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
“People have been incredibly creative”, Miller said. “In Christchurch a giant plain-packaged cigarette packet will be marching in the crowd, while Auckland will be led by an enormous Trojan Horse, locked in a tug-of-war between major commercial interests and activist communities.”
“Around the country everyday kiwis will be photographed for a virtual campaign with signs saying ‘I am a ___________ and I say #TPPANoDeal.’ Already this campaign has been very popular.”
“Trade minister Tim Groser needs to recognise that people don’t buy the ‘trust me’ line. They want to be listened to when they say they don’t want the TPPA. And they deserve to be listened to.”

My girlfriend and I love BBC 6music. So much so that we went on a 450 mile road trip just to attend a protest outside BBC Broadcasting House in London.
There isn't much time to tell the BBC that the decision to close 6music and The Asian Network is wrong, the consultation ends on the 25th of May. Click here to find out what to do.
“The BBC can’t possibly close 6 Music, what will happen to the best new music and passing on the knowledge of old music? What other station plays bands like The National and then follows it with Curtis Mayfield and then the Beastie Boys? It's just wrong to even consider it, it will make fewer young people want to listen to the radio and therefore less new stuff will happen, sort ya heads out please.”

In addition to their desperate continuing plea for an end to the war on Gaza and immediate aid for starving families there, leaders at yesterday's weekly Chicago Coalition for Justice in Palestine march called for US-backed Israeli attacks on against Iran to end, and for the US itself to stay out of the war. Only a few hours later, President Trump announced that American bombers had attacked multiple sites in Iran, which will likely lead to broader war.
Yesterday's march was joined by a contingent of Jewish Voice for Peace hunger strikers, one of whom spoke movingly at the rally. The group carried a banner toward the end of the march that read "Stop starving Gaza." Beginning on June 16, the six Jewish hunger strikers declared their intention not to eat until the US stops its funding of Israeli weapons, and until humanitarian aid is allowed to reach the people of Gaza.
This protestor has been unable to work since he got injured on Jan 28. A bullet went through his body and he had to get one of his kidney's removed.

Various people and groups protest at a Starbucks location in Philadelphia (1801 Spruce Street) in response to an incident where 2 black men were arrested while waiting for a friend
Protest of the passing of proposition 8 in San Diego California. Images were contact printed in a darkroom and then scanned from the contact sheet, levels were adjusted in photoshop and an unsharp mask was applied. I also added my © notice. Film was Ilford HP5 Plus 400 and camera was a Nikon N80. Lens was a Tamron 28-300mm zoom lens.
Now, aside from their right to protest, I’m neither for or against the protesters as there are so many different issues being represented. Some I definitely support, and some I don’t. I’m not a photojournalist per se, but whenever I can, I like to get out there and see events for myself. So much is mis-represented by the media today. I need to see for my self and let the photos speak for themselves.
The folks out there come from all walks of life, with a myriad of issues. They were friendly, willing to talk; and were excited to be a part of something, and have a platform to be heard. Some were more serious then others. My photos show no violence, because I didn’t see violence. Not to say all the protesters are peaceful, I cannot say that either. I only covered one block. The group I photographed were camped in a small park a few blocks from Wall St itself.
