Protesters Faces from Shahbagh Revolution 2013

Signs pinned to trees on Pacific University's campus. I think they're in protest of trees getting cut down for new buildings. We've lost a lot of trees the past couple of years to development.

Protest the Hero is a Canadian progressive metal band from Whitby, Ontario.[3] Originally named Happy Go Lucky,[4] the band changed their name to Protest the Hero shortly before releasing their debut EP, Search for the Truth, in 2002. In 2005, the band released their first full-length album Kezia on the indie label Underground Operations.

On January 23, 2006, the band signed with Vagrant Records for Kezia's American release on April 4, 2006. Their second full-length album, Fortress was released by Underground Operations in Canada and by Vagrant Records worldwide on January 29, 2008.[5] The band released their third studio album, Scurrilous, on March 22, 2011.

Expressing frustrations with record labels, in January of 2013 the band announced that they would crowdfund their fourth full-length album.[6] The Indiegogo campaign was a runaway success, and the independently-released Volition debuted on October 29, 2013, distributed with the help of Razor & Tie.

We refused to leave the street and go home until our demand of capital punishment for war criminals are met. Took this photograph on yesterday evening, February 06, 2013, when thousands joined at Shahbag intersection in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It turned into a spontaneous mass protest with thousands of people continuing their sit-in programme to demand capital punishment for Jamaat-e-Islami politician Abdul Quader Molla and other war criminals. University teachers and students, journalists, cultural and political activists, particularly the young generation, gathered at the intersection. We claimed capital punishment for Abdul Quader Molla for he has been found guilty of five out of six charges, including a series of killings including some large-scale massacres in the Mirpur area of Dhaka during the country’s Liberation War in 1971. The given verdict has humiliated the whole nation and disappointed people seeking justice for the mass murder and rape by the collaborators, and also belittled the sacrifices of freedom fighters and intellectuals. The fiery protest is now spread throughout the nation, thousands of people in different districts are on streets demanding justice for war crime.

The lead-up to Saturdays protests against the TPPA shows the commitment of people across the country to send a message that the government cant ignore, said ItsOurFuture spokesperson Edward Miller.Nationwide day of action against TPPA: “Ignore us at your peril” government warned

“The lead-up to Saturday’s protests against the TPPA shows the commitment of people across the country to send a message that the government can’t ignore”, said ItsOurFuture spokesperson Edward Miller.

A video shows young activists publicising Saturday’s nationwide protests with footage from Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, Christchurch, and Nelson.

Action in the 22 centres starts at 10am in Raglan and many of the larger centre marches begin at 1pm, including Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

“People have been incredibly creative”, Miller said. “In Christchurch a giant plain-packaged cigarette packet will be marching in the crowd, while Auckland will be led by an enormous Trojan Horse, locked in a tug-of-war between major commercial interests and activist communities.”

“Around the country everyday kiwis will be photographed for a virtual campaign with signs saying ‘I am a ___________ and I say #TPPANoDeal.’ Already this campaign has been very popular.”

“Trade minister Tim Groser needs to recognise that people don’t buy the ‘trust me’ line. They want to be listened to when they say they don’t want the TPPA. And they deserve to be listened to.”

On June 25, 2010 30,000 unhappy people converged on Allen Gardens to protest the G20 meetings being held here. We marched from there West on College St towards Queen's Park where we had expected to express our dissatisfaction with the injustices that the leaders of the G20 have consistently inflicted on the world's population and to demand that they abandon their elitist pursuit of a New World Order. Unfortunately the police had other ideas and herded us into a cul-de-sac where they corralled us and kept us prisoner for over 20 minutes before forcing us back to Allen Gardens. This was only the first of many illegal tactics that the police used in an attempt to instigate violence so that they could justify the 1.2 Billion Dollar cost of security that Canadian taxpayers had to shell out. fortunately, in spite of the many abuses of our constitutional right and the preventin of our continuation of our approve plans to march to Queen's Park and hold a rally there, the protest remained peaceful and on this first day of action, the police were thwarted in all attempts to instigate a riot.

Immigrants and their allies chanted as they filled the hallway outside Philadelphia City Council Jan. 29, and once inside, dozens testified for 'ICE OUT' legislation, which aims to limit ICE's operations within the city.

The legislation, presented to the City Council as people in the audience cheered and chanted, received support from 14 of the city's 17 councilmembers and includes several measures to protect citizens from ICE's activities.

This legislation prevents ICE agents from hiding their identities with masks and unmarked vehicles.

It prohibits ICE from using city-owned property for staging raids.

The legislation prohibits the city from collaborations with ICE on data and bans 287(g) agreements which allow police to act as ICE agents.

It prohibits city agencies from collaborating with ICE.

The bills also prevent city agencies from collecting citizenship or immigration status information or sharing personal data with ICE.

Also, the bills prohibit discrimination or denial of services based on citizenship or immigration status by the city, employers, housing providers, or private businesses.

The ICE OUT package also bars city employees from granting ICE access to city-owned spaces—such as libraries, shelters, health centers, and recreation centers—without a judicial warrant. The hearings were a significant step in the city's efforts to address concerns over ICE's operations and to promote public safety and trust.

The bills package will move to council committees for discussion before it could be voted on by City Council.

Then, if council approves the legislation, it would move to Mayor Cherelle Parker’s desk to be signed into law.

Homeless group sleeps outside the Dáil

by Ali Bracken

Some 30 members of the homeless community slept outside Dáil Éireann last night in protest over what they say is Government inaction on the housing crisis.

Mark Grehan, of organisers Street Smart, said they had arranged last night's sleep-out to welcome politicians back from their holidays this morning.

"This action is being taken to send a clear signal to the Government . . . This Government can no longer ignore this issue as we will bring it to their doorsteps. Failure to act will result in more deaths on our streets, deaths caused by the indifference of our Government," he said.

The demonstration follows the death of three people sleeping rough in Dublin three weeks ago.
