A National March was held in Washington DC to protest the US support and funding of the attacks at Gaza. A rally started at Lafayette Park in front of the White House, with participants coming from all across the nation. After the rally, there was a march through Washington DC starting in front of the White House, and progressed with stops in front of the office of Lockheed Martin (US military complex who helped develop F-16's for Israeli military), Caterpillar corporation (who provided bulldozers to Israel to use against Palestinian civilians), the Washington Post Headquarters (wrote biased articles about the Gaza event and refused to cover any opposing demonstrations or events), and HayAdams Hotel (President Elect Obama's current residence until the move to the oval office). About ten thousand participants from all across the nation came and joined this march across central Washington DC.

When: Tuesday June 3rd at 12 pm
Where: Simcoe Hall, University of Toronto, 27 King’s College Circle marching down University Ave. to Old City Hall Courts (60 Queen St. W.)
Join us as we rally outside the headquarters of the University of Toronto’s Governing Council on Tuesday June 3rd, to protest UofT’s campaign of intimidation against those mobilizing against fee hikes. We will gather at 12 noon at Simcoe Hall and march to Old City Hall where we will assemble outside the courthouse appearance of fourteen people charged and arrested for their alleged involvement in a protest on March 20. We will rally to let the University and Attorney General know that we will not tolerate the repression of dissent on campus.
On March 20, over forty students and allies organized a sit-in at the University of Toronto administration’s offices in Simcoe Hall to protest increasing student fees. The peaceful sit-in ended after police exercised aggression against the demonstrators on the orders of senior administrators. Undeterred, students continued to organize against fee hikes with rallies on March 25 and April 10, and an open forum on the accessibility of education on April 7.
This has got to be my favourite shot of the day. Such a powerful image with the corporate man protesting the protesters.
Photos taken during the protests that erupted when the National Socialist Movement (Neo-Nazis) marched to the Phoenix Federal building. The NSM was there to protest a federal judge's decision to 'water down' the SB1070 immigration legislation. I've never seen a more disgusting group of people assembled in one place, but it was their right to have their march and to say what they wanted to say. Fortunately the Phoenix Police Department was there to keep things under control. Pepper spray was used but that was only when the anarchists got too close. Quite a day I can tell you.
I was stunned, overwhelmed, and astonished by the protest at Shahbag. Within minutes I was engulfed by the spirit, energy, and excitement of the crowd there, immediately drawn in the public's desire to get "proper" justice. The environment was phenomenal--there were people from all backgrounds, ages, and religions--and the air was electric with the slogans, optimism, and hopefulness of the crowd.

Medieval letter protesting against the Council of Constance's treatment of religious reformer Jan Hus (c.1369-1415), who was burnt at the stake for heresy. The document was signed by 450 Bohemian and Moravian nobles in Prague, and is one of the early foundation documents of the Reformation and a document of national identity for Bohemia and Moravia (Czech Republic).

The Swedish Democrats held a political rally in Handen today. As per usual there was also a street protest by a few left wing parties, including the Socialist Justice Party. Fifteen police vehicles and fifty police officers surrounded Poseidon's Square during the rally. I decided to stay and document the event.
June 22, 1996. A dozen members of a self-anointed and unwelcome KKK group came to Ann Arbor to hold a thumb-in-your-eye rally at City Hall. A protest group, the National Women's Rights Organizations Coalition (NWROC) formed to oppose them. After the rage had been mounting for awhile, this simpleminded redneck wandered up, wearing a Confederate-flag T-shirt and drinking a bottle of Lipton tea. The crowd tore off after him, he fell, and the mob pounced, striking for blood. Keshia Thomas, horrified, threw herself over him to stave off the angry blows. Moments earlier, Thomas, 18, had been in the NWROC group, shouting at the KKK. It was a heroic and passionate moment in a crazy afternoon, well captured in these photographs.
In a story in People Magazine, Thomas was quoted as saying, "You don't beat a man up because he doesn't believe the same things you do. He's still somebody's child."
