Children Consultation for midterm review (MTR) in Baidoa Tufta IDP Camp in Wadajir. Through collaboration with Somali Children Welfare and Rights Watch (SCWRW) in Baidoa twenty children were identified for the consultation through a transparent and consultative process. The children were from IDP and the host community. Thirteen of the children were from the IDP Camps in Wadajir village in Baidoa and the rest were the host community. In terms of gender likewise thirteen were girls and the rest boys.
From the discussion, the following were emerging as the biggest challenges of the children in Baidoa; access to basic needs such food, clean water, shelter, drugs and substance abuse, street children, lack of enough spaces for playing, parents marrying off their daughters at tender age, lack of quality education, lack of materials for learning, parents not able to provide for them due to poverty, school fees which most of the parent cannot afford.

Ahhhh, a window on the river. The stunning Pine Bend Bluffs Natural Area, just 20 minutes south of St. Paul, is a favorite of FMR staff and volunteers alike. FMR helped protect this high-quality, stunning natural area years ago, and volunteers have been helping to restore it ever since. (Like the flowers and the prairie here? Thank a volunteer river steward!)
Lion cubs often drink under their mother or another protective adult from their pride to mitigate the risk of being attacked by an alligator. Though this pride had never seen an alligator in their life, this action is part of their natural born behaviour. shot at Thanda wildlife reserve, Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa

The helmet has been with me for years and has protected me when I went over the handle bar in 2003 and scrapped up myself pretty badly. It has the scratch marks to show how it saved my head.
The camera bag saved my precious gear from the heavy downpour that we got caught in. It got drenched for more than 15 mins, but still kept the camera dry.
Thank you...

National Child Protection Policy of Iraq launched in Baghdad
Baghdad, 05 July 2017 – The National Child Protection Policy of Iraq was launched today at a ceremony at the Babylon Hotel in Baghdad.
The Iraq National Child Protection Policy was developed under the leadership of Child Welfare Commission with technical support by American University of Beirut. Financial and technical oversight was provided by UNICEF.
The policy was drafted after a literature review, data collection and engagement with representatives in the government, civil society, and United Nations (UN) organizations. The children of Iraq were also consulted, as were their parents, teachers, community members, religious leaders and authorities from across the country, including from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The Iraq National Child Protection Policy provides a framework for action to prevent and protect Iraqi children from violence, abuse, exploitation and neglect, and to provide services and support for children at risk and survivors.
The policy is a framework of commitments from the government, from civil society, and community leaders to help improve the situation of children in Iraq.
As much as possible, the framework intends to protect and support children within their families and communities. It recommends an approach to protection that starts with preventing harm to children. The policy then makes recommendations on identification, care, rehabilitation and reintegration, and services that support children within their families and communities.
The policy proposes strategies that start in communities for national child protection systems that can ensure solutions that are both rights-based and accepted by the population.
The policy provides concrete steps that, if implemented, will create a more protective environment for Iraq’s children, even as they face the enormous additional challenges brought on by years of conflict.
“This Child Rights Based National Child Protection Policy is the product of the work and commitment of and input from many individuals - including the children of Iraq. This is one of its great strengths,” said Hamida Ramadhani, Deputy Representative for UNICEF Iraq.
