Above 8,000 feet elevation, there is much less atmosphere to absorb ultraviolet rays. The extra exposure to UV rays from long hikes can cause a serious sunburn. A good sun protection lotion is always recommended. Sunglasses are also essential to ease eye strain.

wow...this week was not too great.
I got too little sleep when I needed it most, and too much accidentally when I had work to finish, which led to an insanely crazy day of somehow finishing all of my stuff the class period before it was due. I had a really really beautiful moment on Thursday that moved me so much I almost broke down. (I tend to break down when I experience something just so incredibly beautiful.) But then it was contrasted by a night of frustration and confusion. I made two new really cool friends, and I'm pretty excited about that. But otherwise, everything was pretty stressful, mainly because of my lack of self-discipline.
Anyway, I procrastinated on this...I really didn't feel like photoshooting until I had to...which is weird because usually it makes me feel better but I wasn't even in the mood to do it despite that. I dunno. I guess the concept kind of goes with how I feel right now...I just want to protect myself from thinking and doing bad things but I'm not doing a very good job of that. Also, I'm incredibly surprised that the one that I chose this time was the complete LAST of the shoot. Usually it's one of the first, or at least towards the beginning. Maybe it's just because this was so rushed, but hey I beat midnight so yeah ok cool whatever
Okay, next week will be better...I have a few ideas, involving water or mud...we'll see.

Ahhhh, a window on the river. The stunning Pine Bend Bluffs Natural Area, just 20 minutes south of St. Paul, is a favorite of FMR staff and volunteers alike. FMR helped protect this high-quality, stunning natural area years ago, and volunteers have been helping to restore it ever since. (Like the flowers and the prairie here? Thank a volunteer river steward!)
We all heard a beaver go splash into the water and suddenly it was "pay attention, stick close, we are moving along!"
