Somalia: WMBD 2014. This year’s World Migratory Bird Day on 10-11 May, 2014 was held successful in Bay University, Baidoa, Somalia. It was the first time ever held in Somalia. The event was from bird watching in Baidoa Valley that attended students of Zoology Department, local people who interested the event program, to seminars and conferences in the University. The students were demonstrated some pictures of birds and presentations. The Bay University partnered with Somalia Environmental Conservation Group (SECG), which is working on environmental protection and wildlife conservation.
This protection is needed because of the clashing of the sticks or perhaps to prevent the ball from hitting your head. After hearing the sticks clash my bet is because of the sticks.
For my artwork, I decided to go with the theme of Covid-19 and social distancing. I decided to choose these themes because it reflects on current events today and I believe that artworks like mine can be in future history books. The theme I have decided to go with is protection. As seen in the art work, the green coronavirus has a very upset face. Mr. Covid is very upset because he cannot infect the three people down below. The items that are stopping Mr. Covid from infecting the three people are hand sanitizer, toilet paper and face masks. The people also have face masks on and are doing their part in social distancing. I like what I have made in this artwork because not only is it a funny and historical piece, it also acts as a PSA (STAY SAFE) for those who are not educated enough about this pandemic. The four symbols I have used in my artwork are toilet paper, hand sanitizer, face masks and the angry virus. The toilet paper symbolizes a historical event that happened this year. When Covid-19 was announced as a pandemic, panic shoppers bought all of the toilet paper as soon as possible leaving none on the shelves for other customers. This is quite comedic and puts a historical aspect to the art piece. The hand sanitizer and face masks also symbolize the panic buying of these items. Lastly, the angry virus (Mr. Covid) symbolizes the sick disease spreading around during these difficult times. It represents how much damage it has done to the world through loss of jobs, overcrowding hospitals and dying patients. All of these four symbols complete the artwork and puts a historical twist that can be used in the history books for students to learn. Finally, the question I have to ask is “Are you doing your part?”. I ask this because nothing can be accomplished when we aren’t together. It must take everyone’s contributions and teamwork to help cure this disease and to clear out this pandemic.

Congressman Steve Scalise brought Congressman John Boozman (R-AR) to Southeast Louisiana to get a first hand look at the need for stronger flood protection. Congressman Boozman is the Ranking Member of the House subcommittee that authorizes flood protection and hurricane recovery projects. Together, they visited the W-14 and Schneider's Canal projects in Slidell and the 17th St. Canal in Lakeview.
