Mara River

Crossing the river by boat.

Looking north from Mirador de los Condores the setting sun illuminated some nicely layered mountains. The shadow of the mountains behind me and the dark clouds in the background created some interesting atmosphere.

Jordan, 2019 (The Wadi Rum desert valley also known as the Valley of the Moon, is located at 1600 meters above sea level in a mountainous region formed by granite and sandstone. It is the longest wadi in Jordan. The name rum means "high" or "high" in the Aramaic language, and its pronunciation denotes the nearby Arab influence. The highest point of Uadi Rum is Mount Jabal Umm ad Dami, with 1854 meters above sea level.

Wadi Rum has been inhabited since prehistoric times by various cultures, including the Nabataeans, who have left their mark on the petroglyphs. Since 2007, the desert inhabits several Bedouin tribes.

*Camels are considered “ships” of the desert; they don't sink in the deep red sand, they float across it carrying their riders safely over the dunes. Camel riding is the traditional Bedouin way to move around in the desert...)

A male Sedge Darner (Aeshna juncea) at Herschel Island-Qikiqtaruk off the Yukon's Arctic Coast. 5 August 2017.

It's not known if dragonflies breed on Herschel Island, or if they are blown there from the mainland. I've not yet seen a female.

I joined an eco-tourism daytrip from Guyana's capital Georgetown to the Arrowpoint Nature Resort. We drove out of town to marina on the Demerarr river, where we boarded a speedboat and crossed the river, then, taking about 45 minutes, navigated the Kamuni River into the Santa Aratack Amerindian Reserve, stopping at Santa Mission Amerindian community and the reaching Arrowpoint, where we had the options of walking in the rainforest, kayaking, swimming among activities.

This serene capture from Kui Buri National Park, Thailand, showcases the peaceful coexistence of wildlife in its natural habitat. An Asian elephant meanders through the forest while a graceful egret glides by, framed by lush foliage and dappled sunlight. Kui Buri is renowned for its rich biodiversity, offering a safe haven for many species. This image captures a brief, beautiful interaction within the wilderness, emphasizing the beauty of nature and the importance of conservation.

Mid-spring is perhaps the best time to hike the Potomac Heritage Trail, while the weather is still mild, and when the colors of the wildflowers create magical landscapes.

This photo was taken in the coastal section of Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, in Maranhão, Brazil. It shows a tidal flat where shallow water flows over sandy and muddy terrain. Ripple marks are visible in the foreground, shaped by the retreating tide. The surface reflects the blue sky and scattered clouds, creating a dynamic interplay between land, water, and atmosphere. This zone lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the dune system, and is part of a protected area known for its seasonal lagoons, intertidal habitats, and minimal human presence.

This photo was taken from the Pas des Alpette, a high mountain pass in the Vallée des Merveilles, Mercantour National Park. The foreground shows a rocky slope with loose stones and patches of alpine grass. In the distance, multiple layers of mountain ridges stretch toward the horizon, creating a strong sense of depth. The terrain is typical of high-altitude environments, with sparse vegetation and exposed geological formations. The sky was mostly cloudy at the time of capture, producing soft, diffused light across the landscape.
