I tried mostly unsuccessfully to photograph the many butterflies we saw – managed to nap this one with a reasonably good shot – I have hundreds of missed opportunities with blurry shots on my cards – they were too fast.
Butterflies use their feet to taste. Ask yourself what it means when one lands on you!
Winter comes to Silver Falls State Park with a shot of the North Falls. When I lived in Oregon many years ago I visited here but never in winter with snow so it was fun to see this place blanketed in snow.
Snowshoeing in Crater Land National Park in Oregon with my son. During the days we were there the Park got over 4+ feet of snow. That made it beautiful but brutal and slow going!
The tiger king is no match for this tigress as she rests and listens in Jim Corbett Tiger Preserve. Its been awhile since my last dose of vitamin T - I hope I can get a dose real soon!

A little dip in one of the high-mountain lakes of Grand Teton National Park while backpacking when we spotted this family. Managed to grab my camera and swim-sneak up close to them for this pic.

Mountains and trees reflected in the wind blown ice on the surface of Emerald Lake from Rocky Mountain National Park.
I took my son back to school in Oregon a few months back and we decided to turn it into a chance to do some camping and backpacking. This shot from my favorite place in Wyoming - the Killpecker Sand Dunes. Its amazing to me how little use this place gets - yes it does take some doing to find and get to but its worth it! Pictured here the dunes with tracks from the Pronghorn aka American Antelope - this is the terminus of their migrations from Yellowstone/Grand Teton - the longest migratory route in North America.
Sunset over Bear Paw Lake in Grand Teton National Park. Bear Paw lived up to its name with a lot of bear sign around the lake...sleep with one eye & ear open!
Rocky Mountain National Park Snowshoe Trip with my son and ran into this old friend - seems like every year I post a shot of a Steller's Jay - there could be worse traditions!
The Tsengué Lélédi Falls along the Ivindo River in Gabon. One of the potential hydropower project sites that we visited. Its within a Ramsar Site (wetland site designated to be of international importance) and adjacent to Ivindo National Park. Its an amazing spot that hopefully will not get developed.
If your in Delhi I highly recommend a visit to Bharatpur - well worth the effort and its only a few hours by car or train!
Another look at the Killpecker Sand Dunes from the Red Desert in Wyoming...love the patterns from the lizard tracks!
Another pic from the snorkeling trip with Salt Life Eco Tours! Nurse sharks only eat lobsters and other crustaceans - maybe a few small fish so no worries swimming with these sharks!
In these crazy times its important to find some fun - the elk can show us the way - so please behave like animals! Welcome/Encourage some text to go on this image -could be a good meme!
Lake Great Prespa, Florina, Macedonia, Greece.
Near this location, Lake Prespa joins Lake Little Prespa.
A protected area which is National Park, Natura 2000, Ramsar site, Transboundary Park.
I posted a photo of this same tiger with a similar composition a while back. But I came across this version and liked it a bit better since it had a little more color of the leaves of the bushes the tiger was hiding in. Looking at this reminded me I haven't had a dose of Vitamin T in some time - perhaps soon I hope!
Yes I love those Kingfishers - they are the models of the bird work and Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary was a great place to see 7 photography them!
While I enjoyed the warmth of the morning sun and some breakfast my friend here seemed to be doing the same - although he is having the fungus!
Needed a break from the cold & grey so a flashback to the India and a shot of the Indian Roller helped to provide the much needed color infusion!
Another shot of the elk bugling in Rocky Mountain National Park - early morning light - early morning chill!
Alpine forget-me-not (Eritrichum aretioides) is one of the first to bloom on the tundra, usually appearing from late May to early July. This shot taken at ~12,700 feet in RMNP.
Shot of a painted stork dinning on an introduced catfish in Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary - amazing spot and only a few hrs from Delhi
Headed to Zion National Park for the holidays. Although we ended our trip earlier then planned, managed a little adventure before heading home. Here a picture of The Narrows. water temps just above freezing, slippery rocks and fast running water, sometimes chest deep - makes for some fun!
Pic of a friend I made on one of my first trips to work with TNC India. Not sure he shared my enthusiasm?
As the elk bugle for the females they often display for other males and only fight when they are evenly matched. Here a male walks slowly in front of another smaller male to let him size him up. This guy had 7 points on one side and 5 on the other. The smaller guy took off shortly after.
Ivindo River fisherman that would be impacted by dam mentioned in previous photo (Tsengué Lélédiin) stands on the banks of the river with hand made paddle and boat.
Big Horn Sheep (Ovis canadensis) saunters thru the high country (12,000+ ft) of Rocky Mountain National Park. Problems with my computer has prevented me from enjoying your awesome photos and accessing the Flickrsphere. I hope to resolve this problem soon. Stay safe out there!
Another view of Sutai Mountain in the Khushuut Valley of Western Mongolia this time with my feet & camera planted firmly on the ground!
Trip up to the Rocky Mountain National Park last weekend for some hiking and elk watching. The hike and the elk didn't disappoint!
Short 18 miles hike with my son last Saturday, who may be trying to kill me, to Lion Lakes in Rocky Mountain National Park. Passed a lot of awesome sites on the way including Calypso Cascades pictured here. I am slowly digging out after several work related fire drills but look forward to checking out all the great photos I missed while busy!
Our plan was to go to Death Valley over the break - was really looking forward to photographing there as its been sometime since I have been back. But with the government shutdown the NPS couldn't guarantee our camp site reservation so we didn't make it - Thanks Trump! Went to RMNP for a few day trips a little hiking and snowshoeing.
Another of my favorite pictures also came from the Khushuut Valley - with a shot that showed the scale of the mountain. Last trip here I wanted to take this shot but weather prevented me from getting it. This time I tried to hike ahead to get the shot but the rocks made hiking fast very difficult, except for Jim who was walking slowly since he wasn't feeling the best so I managed to get in position for this shot. Despite Jim not feeling good his lagging behind lead to him seeing a pack of wolves up on the ridge - I guess we were both lucky that day!
Another peek at the park, Rocky Mountain National Park. This one from a backpacking trip. I try to do a trip with my boys every year - used to do them one on one now they take pity on their old man and do them together. Don't usually take a camera but decided to bring one this time - snapped this pic right before we turned in for the night...and spotted a bear.
