EN: Coastal landscape at Balos Beach, Crete. The foreground features rugged limestone rocks and shallow tidal pools that reflect the overcast sky. In the distance, flat-topped cliffs and the Gramvousa peninsula rise above the turquoise waters of the lagoon. The scene captures the raw beauty of western Crete, where geological formations meet shifting light and marine textures in a protected natural reserve.
The Marine Corps War Memorial is a military memorial statue located near the Arlington National Cemetery and the Netherlands Carillon in Arlington, Virginia, United States. The memorial is dedicated to all personnel of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) who have died in the defense of their country since 1775. The design of the massive sculpture by Felix de Weldon was based on the iconic photo of the raising of the Flag on Iwo Jima by Associated Press photographer Joe Rosenthal.

A terrible record shot of a male Eastern Yellow Wagtail which landed outside my cabin window on Herschel Island while I was having my morning coffee on 14 June 2015. Unfortunately, the cabin windows were not clean, and the wagtail did not stick around for more photos.
This is the only the 5th record of Eastern Yellow Wagtail for Herschel Island even though it is an uncommon breeder on the mainland, just 5 km to the south.
This trio of rare shorebirds flew in and landed on the tundra during a raptor survey. They appeared to be migrants, wary and alert, and perhaps wanting to rest and feed.

Albergaria Forest, in the Peneda-Gerês National Park (PNPG), during the autumn. This centenary forest, which houses Galician-Portuguese oaks, is part of the only protected area in Portugal with the status of National Park and is part of the Biogenetic Reserve of the Palheiros and Albergaria Forests, recognized by the Council of Europe and classified as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO since 2009. The stream bed is covered with fallen leaves in orange and copper tones, while green moss adorns some stones and banks. The light filtered by the treetops in seasonal transition creates a mosaic of colors that enhances the natural beauty of this protected forest, a vital ecosystem in the Minho region. In addition, the area is crossed by the Roman Geira, where remains of Roman roads and ancient landmarks are preserved. In the fall, the falling of the leaves not only beautifies the landscape, but also contributes to the natural fertilization of the soil and to the renewal of the ecological cycles of this deciduous forest.

Koh Lipe is the southernmost island of Thailand in the Andaman Sea. It is part of the Adang-Rawi archipelago. This archipelago forms, together with the Tarutao archipelago, the National Park Koh Tarutao. The Chao Lay live on the island. This is a tribe that lives mainly on the islands in the Andaman Sea. Although Koh Lipe is part of a national park, the inhabitants are only allowed to develop part of the island for tourism. All other islands is prohibit. On the car-free island there are a few narrow roads that connect the beaches, because that is what it is all about: enjoying the sun, sea and beach. The seawater is emerald green-blue and crystal clear. The island is surrounded by a beautiful coral reef with numerous beautiful tropical fish. With the longtail boat you sail to the most beautiful and best snorkling spots in the area. That it is a National Park means that the entire island is protected area. This is not for nothing, because nature here is really beautiful. Twenty years ago I had been here with my wife, together with our daughter back again. See photo from 1998.
Koh Lipe is a small island in the Southern part of the Thai Andaman Sea. It is famous for it's white sandy beaches, crystal clear water and bountyful marine life. The main transport hub for Koh Lipe is Pak Bara with daily speedboats boats running all year. This cluster of islands is part of the much larger Tarutao National Marine Park, a nature reserve established in 1974 as Thailand’s second National Park. It consists of about 50 islands and covers 1500 km². We visit Koh Lipe in the low season for peaceful, romantic walks along the deserted beach under the moonlight. Low season with rain but we had some holiday luck ;-) Photo taken at Sunset beach on Koh Lipe. View on Koh Butang, Koh Rawi and Koh Adang on the right side.

Wearing orange life vests and wide-eyed expressions, a group of tourists emerges from the yawning mouth of the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park—one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. The dramatic limestone formations of Palawan's underground river contrast sharply with the jade-green water and dappled light above, offering a moment of stillness after an otherworldly ride beneath the mountain.

Spectacular area with interesting limestone outcrops and towers, meadow-covered ridges, rugged rocky slopes, canyons, gorges and deep silent valleys with watherfalls. This is one of the most beautiful. Photography was difficult because I had to keep one hand wet ladder and a second to compose shot. I was fascinated by a beautiful green lake bottom.

Koh Lipe is the southernmost island of Thailand in the Andaman Sea. It is part of the Adang-Rawi archipelago. This archipelago forms, together with the Tarutao archipelago, the National Park Koh Tarutao. Although it's a small island you can simply hike a few hours and get lost in the the depths of the jungle. A number of wild animals are commonly spotted on Koh Lipe, including huge monitor lizards, wild boars, king fishers, and much more. The sea and the forest combination is not to be missed, taking in nature in all its glory; blue lagoon waters, sand that glows white under the sun and lush green forest together with the rhythm of the jungle. The seawater is emerald green-blue and crystal clear. The island is surrounded by a beautiful coral reef with numerous beautiful tropical fish. That it is a National Park means that the entire island is protected area. This is not for nothing, because nature here is really beautiful. The southern part of the island is a natural haven, with mangroves, dense vegetation and jungle, beautiful beaches, huge cliffs and private beaches.
We're hiking to the secluded Pollo beach on the southern part of the Lipe island. It's a small hour walking through the dense jungle. The sea water of Pollo Beach varying shades of turquoise, from light to dark, but so clear you can see the rocks underwater. This secluded beach has great white sand if you want to work on your tan, plus the water is calm enough for swimming. The main draw for this beach, however, is the excellent diving opportunities, which some describe as world class. The area is famous for it’s beautiful soft coral and macro diving. There is also possibilities to see a few larger marine animals. We have seen many big fish, cuttlefish, the clown fish alias NEMO. Photo of Samantha on Pattaya beach.

A peaceful moment captured in the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen, as soft sunlight filters through the trees, illuminating a grazing deer. The early morning light adds a golden glow to the forest, creating a magical atmosphere of tranquility and connection with nature. This serene landscape showcases the natural beauty and wildlife of one of the Netherlands' most stunning nature reserves.

This shot was taken facing west from Crescent Rock Overlook along Skyline Drive. Crescent Rock Overlook is a scenic overlook in Page County, Virginia, within Shenandoah National Park. The mountain we are standing on is known as Crescent Rock. It is a peak in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Subject
The woman in the foreground is my wife Thidawan Borland. The mountain in the background is Massanutten Mountain. The Massanutten is not part of the Blue Ridge. Unlike the crystalline Blue Ridge, the Massanutten is composed of sedimentary sandstone. It is the leading ridge in the Ridge-and-Valley Appalachians, dividing the Shenandoah Valley in half for over 50 miles. The sun was approximately 10 minutes above the horizon.

Now a mass of cloud hangs in suspension over the twin peaks; the lake transforms itself in deep mysterious blue.
Spread over 120 km² with a maximum depth of 40m / 131ft. the fresh to brackish water lake has been decreasing in dimensions. Wet meadows and borax-loaded wetlands border its northern and southern shores. This closed water system has a very high evaporation rate; ongoing compression in the collision regime and possible climatic variations is partly responsible for the shrinkage. Uncontrolled tourism leading to pollution, excessive grazing by livestock, biomass extraction and diversion of glacier melt stream water for agricultural purpose pose threat to the integrity of the lake as well as to the flora and fauna unique to this region. Recently conducted research reveals chemical changes in the lake water, which eventually might be a cause of concern. Though declared as Protected Area, that forbids any form of resource extraction and limits tourism, lack of alternative livelihood proves conservation complimentary.
A section along the Moriri basin is an important fossil bank from the Mesozoic era, which stands at the risk of disturbance from trekkers and campsites. Jeep safaris are directly affecting the wild herbivores and breeding patterns of 40 plus migratory bird species in the region.

Uthai Thani is a province in the northwest of Thailand. It is a region known for its natural beauty, historical sites and cultural heritage. One of the notable features of Uthai Thani is the presence of several national parks that protect the beautiful flora and fauna of the region. Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary: This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the largest protected areas in Thailand. It is home to a diverse flora and fauna, including rare and endangered species such as the Indochinese tiger, Asian elephant and Malayan bear. Tum Chang Cave National Park is a national park known for its impressive limestone caves and formations. These national parks in Uthai Thani offer a range of activities including trekking, bird watching and admiring Thailand's natural beauty. An impressive and majestic tree, which is native especially to this part of Thailand, is Tualang tree, scientifically known as Koompassia excelsa. The Tualang tree is known for its exceptionally tall height. The Tualang tree often plays a crucial role in the ecosystem, as it provides an important source of food and shelter for various animals, including honey bees. Beekeepers sometimes place beehives high in the branches of the Tualang tree to promote the production of Tualang honey, which is considered one of the most unique and high-quality honeys. The conservation and protection of such trees is often of great importance for maintaining biodiversity and ecological balance in the region.
There is a giant Tualang tree (Koompassia excelsa) found east of Ban Rai in Uthai Thani province. This impressive Tualang is located on private property in the middle of a forest, but the owner is happy to welcome visitors. On one side of the tree are claw marks from a bear that tried to knock down a honey bee nest. The local population, descendants of Laotian settlers brought here two hundred years ago during conflicts with Burma, inhabit this area. The circumference of the tree is approximately 97 meters, including the buttress roots that reach from branches to the ground to support the tree. The age of the tree is estimated at 400 years, and its height exceeds 50 meters. This majestic tree sprang up around the year 1621. Visitors are encouraged to touch and feel the ancient tree. The skin of the tree still feels very healthy and vibrant. Let's hope this giant tree continues to thrive forever. It is truly a wonderful spectacle.
