Cuernavaca (Mexico) - picture taken without the knowledge of the protagonists because I am in a neighborhood deemed difficult to Cuernavaca. I was advised not to take pictures in this street where the assaults would be regular. I had the camera around my neck when I randomly triggered it.

Ericailcane immerses us in her fairy-tale imagery with the work "Re Bel" created for The Wallà. Protagonists, a fox and a weasel: predatory animals of the countryside, threats par excellence of a peasant world linked to the values of the community, of respect for the earth and for people. The game of cards from Treviso, a pastime that immediately recalls sociality and tradition, is overturned, presenting here a dark and violent nature, open quotation from the work "War invalids play cards" by Otto Dix from 1920.

.........I'm thinking that it should be wonderful to live in a city, town, village so full of colors... I think that each grey wall could be transformed into an awesome work of art...

This is Vallà di Riese (Veneto Region, Italy) experience....

woooooow.... I love this... the project is supported by Region Administrators ....

It is Vallà participatory urban regeneration project, born from an idea of the BocaVerta Collective to put art and beauty back at the center of our urban landscapes. The name combines the English word wall and the country where the initiative takes place in a play on words.

****************************************

COS’È THE WALLÀ.

Phileas Fogg is the protagonist in the 1872 Jules Verne novel Around the World in Eighty Days. Inspirations for the character were the American entrepreneur George Francis Train and American writer and adventurer William Perry Fogg. He is portrayed here, by a friend, Mark Edwards in the opening night performance at Much Hadham Drama Group.

Having arrived at Muttbach-Belvédère 'station', our protagonist from the previous photo awaits the arrival of the oncoming train (the scheduled CC 154 Oberwald - Realp, hauled by ex-FO HG 3/4 no. 4) before descending the western flanks of the Furka pass railway. The next photo - to be posted next year! - will put that oncoming train, which I know is a little hidden behind the slope in this one, into the limelight.

15 Minutes of Fame.

The protagonist, Karana, in Scott Odell's novel, "Island of the Blue Dolphins," wore a skirt of Cormorant feathers. The story was based on a real-life Native American woman who survived alone, on her island home, for many years without human companionship. She was eventually rescued by a passing ship that took her to the California mainland.

Spread your wings and become the protagonist

The mechanical pool, once a marvel of golden gears in motion, now lay in chaos. Loose nuts rolled across the metal floor as the protagonist leaned over the edge, frowning. The gears had fallen to the bottom, swallowed by the watery shadows, and the machinery's core—that pulsing heart of copper—had slipped out of sight, hidden behind a tangle of pipes and mist. Something inside grew led with an even rhythm, like a wounded beast. Taking a deep breath, he tightened his grip on the wrench. He couldn't fix what he couldn't see, but if he wanted to prevent disaster, he would have to dive into the mystery lurking beneath the surface.

The image shows a reflection of a monument: Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. These are the two protagonists from a novel written by the Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes (1547-1616). Don Quixote has become so entranced by reading chivalric romances, that he determines to become a knight-errant himself.

“When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? Perhaps to be too practical is madness. To surrender dreams — this may be madness. Too much sanity may be madness — and maddest of all: to see life as it is, and not as it should be!”

The sculpture is from Lorenzo Coullaut Valera (1876—1932). The colors of the relection are original, but I enhanced in LR contrast and clarity, as well as vibrancy and saturation. Such a basic treatment improves the visibility and vibrancy of most reflections.

Quasimodo is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the novel The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (1831) by Victor Hugo. Quasimodo was born with a hunchback and feared by the townspeople as a sort of monster, but he finds sanctuary in an unlikely love that is fulfilled only in death.

The novel sought to preserve values of French culture in a time period of great change, which resulted in the destruction of many French Gothic structures and threatened to trivialise the vibrancy of 15th century France. The novel made Notre-Dame de Paris a national icon and served as a catalyst into a renewed interest in the restoration of Gothic form.

Victor-Marie Hugo (26 February 1802 – 22 May 1885) was a French poet, novelist, and dramatist of the Romantic movement. During a literary career that spanned more than sixty years, he wrote abundantly in an exceptional variety of genres: lyrics, satires, epics, philosophical poems, epigrams, novels, history, critical essays, political speeches, funeral orations, diaries, letters public and private, as well as dramas in verse and prose. Plum is the protagonist of flowers in February in Tokyo. It is planted mostly for flower rather than for fruits in Japan. This photo was taken in a small greenery by Kanpachi or Ring Road No.8 (環状八号線).

Kanpachi is one of the ring roads that surround Tokyo. While Ring Road No.1 is the scenic Uchibori-doori (内堀通り) street laid along the inner moat of Edo Castle (Imperial Palace), Kanpachi is the outermost of the ring roads.

Ume (Japanese plum, Prunus mume) is a deciduous tree species in the rose family (rosaceae). Unlike cherry, it has a Chinese origin. Not only the flower but also the gnarled trunk have been the objects of Japanese art paintings.

We're starting today a little more cautiously, if one can even speak of caution given all the natural beauty that surrounds us.

But at least the protagonists are of the more reserved variety. These aren't epic landscapes or historic castles, but simply a group of young birch trees in winter dress on a rocky plateau in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.

And until a few minutes ago, I hadn't even thought about taking a photo of them. But then the morning sun climbed over the ridge of the Schrammstein cliffs in the background and caught the branches of one of these birch trees.

And suddenly, the scene was filled with life and warmth and definitely worth capturing in a photograph.

more of this on my website at: www.shoot.to.catch.de

For a while, you can’t quite believe this thing has happened. The absolute horror of it was something there were no words for. It seemed utterly impossible, like a natural disaster that lasts for multiple years that was somehow chosen again purposefully or like a whole country choosing an abuser and giving him ultimate power over all of us.

I didn’t know if I was ever going to even post a photo again. I didn’t sleep on the night of the election and I still had to go to work the next day. I have to be stronger than I actually am. I have to at least pretend in a way that might garner an Oscar performance as the main protagonist in the ongoing story of my life. Because, I feel like I am falling apart. The first student I saw on Wednesday morning was a fifth grader who I know was very hopeful Kamala would win. I couldn’t speak because I was so emotional but gave her a hug instead. Now, she’s growing up in a world where she will have no body autonomy. It is so hard to process the election when you are in front of others and have to function as if the world is still in a full state of rotation.

I took two Ibuprofen PM on Wednesday night so that I could fall asleep and, on Thursday, when I initially woke up, it was like my brain was in a bit of a fog and forgot all about what happened. As if, maybe it was all just a passing night terror. And then, it hit me all over again and it was somehow even worse that day. Like, when you find yourself distracted by something beautiful and then you quickly remember the overall reality right now that you are faced with. I managed to put my clothes on and then started weeping into my coffee before biking to work.

I feel sorry for my students the most. For the past few yeas, I have felt so terrible about climate change in the world and how it is changing and now we have someone in office who will do far more damage in this and other respects. His first plans are to abolish the Department of Education and the FDA. Environmental protections will fall by the wayside. Medicare will be privatized. Money for people with disabilities will be cut or eliminated and birth control will either be eliminated or very expensive and hard to get depending on where you live. Forget about human rights for those who are transitioning genders or who are nonbinary. He is of a limited mind and feels strongly that there are only two genders in existence (despite many centuries across the world of multiple genders). He plans on even deporting the citizens who may have voted for him. These are his actual plans in writing and he controls all three branches of our government *and* has declared he now has a mandate. So, I really don’t feel I am over-reacting. In fact, I was told I was over-reacting the first time he was in office and that Roe v. Wade would never be overturned. So, I guess maybe my fears are pretty realistic. I also want to be clear that I will not entertain any right wing, pro-Trump fascist comments on here. If you are in that category, your viewpoints are harmful to people I care about and now you are the ones in power. When you have respect for others, that means you don’t wish for policies that do extreme damage to their lives and vote for politicians to act out all of your fears, hatred, and ignorance. If you voted for Trump, I already know what your opinions are and they are responsible for destroying my county. We’ve let a group of famous billionaires (we all knew enough about to be cautious) join forces to define policies that will control us and I doubt the price of groceries will go down any time, either.

I’m going to try to write a little bit each day on my life experiences from now on. I don’t expect others to care or read it. If you do, that’s ok. If you don’t, you’re busy. Some days, it might be more about a film I’ve watched, a book I’m reading, a dream I’ve had or what music I have been listening to and how that is affecting me. Other days, it might just be a poem. There might be days I am just too devastated to lift my head up and navigate an unwieldy language around incomprehensible things. I have been encouraged by someone in my family to figure out a way to fly under the radar so to speak in terms of my strong opinions. This is the opposite of that and I carry this forward with a sense of anxiety yet also human responsibility. I have been so depressed I am not sure there is anything left in this world worth living for but I am definitely not going to live out whatever time I have left being silent.

The butterfly is the great protagonist of the Fairelands this year. A symbol of rebirth, change or eternal life, butterflies have their home in this region, from which they leave flooding everything. Perhaps attracted by the voices on the radio, taking their message to all visitors, the butterflies become the notes of a score that fills our hearts with love and hope. It is a magical region, harmoniously linked to its artistic sisters, Sambeaubee and Giraphoria, all three of which are the pearls of art in the Fairelands. They fill us the days of the fair with ideas, emotions, images and feelings shared by the Second Life artists. It is worth going through these sims taking advantage of the fact that we go to an event.

Though brief in screen time, the robots play an integral role in the story, protecting the protagonists on their journey to locate the eponymous floating kingdom of Laputa. Some things go on. Pass on. Some things just stay. I used to think it was just my rememory. You know. Some things you forget. Other things you never do”.

~Sethe (The pensive protagonist in Toni Morrison’s Pulitzer prize and National Book award winning novel ‘Beloved'.)

Memory is a messy necessity. On one hand, it curates our past and gives us our identity; on the other, it is a frail feature of our brain that is highly susceptible to time, trauma, and emotions. When something so contradictory and paradoxical mates with a writer of Toni Morrison’s caliber, one expects the birthing of something extraordinary. ‘Beloved’ was the lovechild in this case. It is a fictional recounting of African American life under and after slavery. Based on the life of Margaret Garner, a historical slave woman who killed her girl child to ‘protect’ her from horrors of slavery, this claustrophobic novel does not mince words, leaves blood where it can’t be ignored, and rough handles the core concept of memory. Here, Margaret’s character –Sethe– slits the throat of her unnamed infant girl and then, from the depths of her motherhood, had the word ‘Beloved’ engraved on her tombstone. For the rest of her life, trying to reconcile and heal, Sethe hides from and seeks this painful memory in equal measure. And in this unrest, a new word is coined: ‘rememory’. “History versus memory, and memory versus memorylessness.”, Morrison later defined the word, “Rememory as in recollecting and remembering as in reassembling the members of the body, the family, the population of the past… The effort to both remember and not know...

Read that with me slowly… 'Rememory as in recollecting and remembering as in reassembling the members of the body, the family, the population of the past …' that has been ripped apart. Neither can you dwell on it for too long, nor can you ignore it for a long period of time either. This uncomfortable recollection of repressed memory – it seems– has a paranormal quality to it. In the novel, Sethe says, “Some day you be walking down the road and you hear something or see something going on. So clear. And you think it's you thinking it up. . . But no. It's when you bump into a rememory that belongs to somebody else.” Is it possible to walk into some else’s rememory, as Sethe suggests? Or, perhaps it’s a metaphor to represent the interconnectedness of our collective past and present human experience –especially of trauma– and its subsequent transformative narration to ourselves and others. Our ancestors still tell us their stories, don’t they? Like Sethe and other characters in ‘Beloved’, we are all story-inheritors. But unlike them, why is that we reflect on our inheritance in such seldom?

In her Nobel prize for literature lecture in 1993, Morrison gave us the unforgettable quote about language, “We die. That may be the meaning of life. But we do language. That may be the measure of our lives.” I wonder, if Sethe would have disagreed and instead, as our lives’ true measure, cited ‘rememory’.

A detail of the painting Dear Protagonist, (a reverie regarding you in the perpetual present).

The parenthetical latter part of the title alludes to both how

1) a painting has a relatively temporally static state (compared to film for instance) and as such the viewer's experience with a painting is fundamentally rooted in the present [ie. this reading suggests the "you" is the viewer].

and

2) Temma (my daughter depicted in the painting) seems to have a fairly limited memory and as such seems to exist in a perpetual present [ie. this reading suggests the "you" is Temma].

Alfred Hitchcock's 1954 classic. The protagonist Jeff, an avid photojournalist, is "confined" to a wheelchair and apartment because of a broken leg. Out of boredom, he watches his neighbors on the other side of the courtyard from the window.

Now a jump to the year 2022: Britta, an enthusiastic amateur photographer, is "tied" to the apartment because of a torn ligament in her foot. In contrast to Jeff, she is not bored at all, has several photo ideas and is happy that her windows are not as dirty as "the window to the yard" ;-)

Well past midnight, our imaginary protagonist is hard at work, fuelled by brandy, tobacco and chocolate!

Technical: surprisingly large number of layers needed for this image. Three base photos, exposure blended then the composite layers for each painting, tobacco smoke, embers in pipe, background wall image then layers for various fixes and cleanup, adding 'shinies' (black layer, in colour dodge mode, then very low flow white airbrushing to add shininess to some areas of metal and glass).

The protagonist of this story is Basque, his name is Poli Barañano, a good man, educated within a nationalist family and in the Christian faith. Humble, reserved, faithful to his principles and proud of his work: to be a shipping company for life and by vocation. An old sea dog. Poli is forceful with his ideas but tolerant of his own friends. As a reader, you get hooked on his thoughts and travel, along with his emotions, to any city where a new adventure always begins.

One of my still lives at candle's light to celebrate the cherries harvest.

Cherries are the fruit I prefer and also the true protagonists, the most precious fruits of my area.

I like to display cherries in a rustic way, on wooden trays or bowls but in this new Still Life shooting, I have been willing to lend what cherries represent in my area, pure jewels, more than the best chocolate pralines... An unforgettable gourmet delicacy for both taste and eyes. An experience that only lasts 2/3 weeks in the year, the time they are mature and picked up. Something unmissable...

Especially for this shooting:

Wrapping and display is important if the content is.

So, this time, I have been using as display tools only silversmith handmade author's jewellery.

Here to the right, a mini sterling silver bowl for the whipped cream, to the left a mini sterling silver fondue holder to melt chocolate and then deep inside a cherry. I made it for real, so in this photo chocolate is melting, well, maybe boiling and the candle blown up very quickly. I could not replace it as it's not a regular tealight, it's a customized mini tealight made especially to adapt to this miniature sculpture.

I built some candle's stands using some old camera tripods and fixing the candle holders on top of them. Apart this, well, I have an appointed personally conceived "technique" to display further candles in the angles where I need this particular natural light.

The ice cubes or the dry ice gas would eventually complete the special sweet fondue.

The cherries had just been picked up from the tree, I hurried up to shoot them in all their splendor of freshness.

This vision and this flavour are never possible when buying cherries from the groceries.

Zero km food is in most cases the very best food.
