This properly dressed and appropriately tipsy guy was eager to celebrate St. Patricks Day and take part in all parts of the parade. And did not mind at all when security pushed him back to the sidelines

Please, please, please can we keep him???? We promise to look after him properly........he was all alone outside in the dark. Please, please, please!!!!

What chance have I got!!! Just look at those eyes!!!! Hahahahaaa

A largely-deserted little town about 65mi SW of Fort Worth. Most of the 15-20 buildings that comprise the town are vacant and in various stages of disrepair. Not sure it could be properly called a ghost town just yet, but it's getting close.

Estação do Oriente in Lisbon is one of Portugals main transport hubs, but it is also an architectural masterpiece by Santiago Calatrava. It is located at Lisbon's Expo '98 area, or Parque das Nações. It is definitely worth a visit.

This is my second attempt of getting it photographed properly and this time I am quite happy with the result.

It's been quite a while since I've been out properly with my camera. I've had a couple of unsuccessful trips to the coast, so at least I could shake off the rust (on me not my camera), but I really hope I can make the most of the coming autumn. Here's one from a lovely morning last year.

Shot for the 52 Weeks for Dogs Project: Last weeks challenge was dogs and chairs. Sampson is really not one for getting up on things but he was willing to get up onto a bench in Mark Burnham Park for this shot. Hope you are all having a super weekend.

Peterborough Cathedral, properly the Cathedral Church of St Peter, St Paul and St Andrew – also known as Saint Peter's Cathedral is the seat of the Anglican Bishop of Peterborough, dedicated to Saint Peter, Saint Paul and Saint Andrew, whose statues look down from the three high gables of the famous West Front. Although it was founded in the Anglo-Saxon period, its architecture is mainly Norman, following a rebuilding in the 12th century. With Durham and Ely cathedrals, it is one of the most important 12th-century buildings in England to have remained largely intact, despite extensions and restoration.

Peterborough Cathedral is known for its imposing Early English Gothic West Front (façade) which, with its three enormous arches, is without architectural precedent and with no direct successor. The appearance is slightly asymmetrical, as one of the two towers that rise from behind the façade was never completed (the tower on the right as one faces the building), but this is only visible from a distance.

Finally, the first properly edited photo from my film collection. I think it is a nice photo, not sure whether to have kept the colour in the clouds or turned everything a cool blue with the nice orange/yellow sea stacks.

When editing film for so long, you get to know the intricate details of the shot, and what people might be looking at if they had it on their wall. I like the rain cloud, not perfectly symmetrical, but lighting up the water pink, the rocks floating on the surface of the water, the dark lines through both sea stacks which must have been a sediment layer, and the little rock below the large sea stack that helps balance it.

This film is great... I have a 100inch panoramic photo I could print that size without resampling it. Film is amazing!

Carefully contemplating these Liquidambar I felt closer to other latitudes. Thanks to my telephoto lens I was able to properly isolate the branches and look for very colourful portions, which dazzled with their vivid tonalities.

It was nice to meet again with Autumn, with its colours, with its magic in a connection with nature that lasted a short time.

I hope you like this photo and I wish you a happy Tuesday.

Note: Sunning posture, aka" Horaltic Pose" with the wings spread with the back facing the sun. This behavior likely has several functions in different situations – allowing for heat loss when the bird is too warm, heat gain on cool early mornings and wing drying when the feathers are wet. I’ve also heard it suggested that they may sometimes be using ultraviolet light from the sun to kill bacteria on their plumage from their last decaying meal. Another possible explanation is warming up their feathers prior to aligning them properly.

Micro (macro) photographs of lit candles, showcasing the amazing art that's produced when a candle's wick burns and the candle's wax melts into incredible shapes.

It took me awhile to be able to expose properly for both the burning wick and the flame itself, and it's challenging to get a sharp focus as I shoot these handheld.

A properly red train, without interruption, to end this series. The non-publicity Ge 4/4 II 625 is hauling its Scuol-Disentis train through the Ruinaulta at Versam-Safien, 07-07-2020.

Not aligned properly but I couldn't be bothered to repeat it, still like it tho.

We've yet to see a monarch, but I did spot this Red Milkweed Beetle (Tetraopes tetrophthalmus) on our milkweed flowers the other day in the front yard. The split eyes make it difficult to photograph, IMHO... This is probably the best shot I got.

(_8301471-A-01-APIL)

A joke asks how do hedgehogs make love, the answer is "very carefully". When I saw the image that I show you, it came to my mind that the males of these species are easy victims of the females just after copulation. Any food rich in protein is welcome for the eggs to develop properly.

Madagascar

This is the incredible special diademed sifaka that I was able to photograph in Madagascar last year.

The diademed sifaka is classified as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List, and is listed in CITES Appendix I with only an estimated few thousand left in the wild.

Habitat loss as as result of slash and burn agriculture is their biggest threat.

Properly run ecotourism can play a pivotal role in helping this species survive.

Two weeks ago some guy had a whole camera bag on sale. Might have been a Yashica FR-1, and would have been a good deal for anyone with less cameras on their shelf than me. I just bought the three rolls of film he had and coming home i realized one of the boxes had been opened and contained an exposed roll of Superia 400. Oh well... unlike virtually every other film I found in such conditions, these pictures were actually properly framed, focussed and exposed. One of the frames has a VW Sharan on it so we can't be earlier than '95, the few other cars reinforce the 90's vibe.

Yashica FR-1 and Yashinon 50 mm f/2 (?), expired Fuji Superia 400 developped by Foto Express on the Schweitzer Straße and digitalized using kit zoom and extension tubes.

Thank you everyone for your visits, faves and comments, they are always appreciated :)

whenever someone who knows you disappears, you lose one version of yourself. yourself as you were seen, as you were judged to be. lover or enemy, mother or friend, those who know us construct us, and their several knowings slant the different facets of our characters like diamond-cutter's tools. each such loss is a step leading to the grave, where all versions blend and end.

(Escalante Desert, Utah)

The problem with long days not quite properly planned is getting camp settled before dark, which tonight coincided with sundown. Eating in the dark is fine, but tent sites are better surveyed with daylight left. Accomplished, but food still on hold, I wander a ways out into the desert to enjoy the early evening. At this moment, nothing is willing to let go. In the distance the Straight Cliffs still get the prismatic bend of sunset, as do the scattered forms above, begging me to be quick before they turn to gray. The pinions closer in are gathering dusk while sand, rock and prairie grass still bake off accumulated energy. I think the last of the light must be carried on a wind that almost always rises with sunset, as if it’s all too much for a disappearing sun to take with its final wink. There are all kinds of canyons, slots, arches, slick rock domes and bowls, and artwork in the Escalante, but most of it is like this. A vastness that I never tire of letting my eyes follow, walking visually between sage and juniper, down through draws imagining how they curve around to the next bench, stopping to linger at random hoodoos with a thought to discover what else is hiding there. It’s a landscape that tilts crazily, sedimentary epochs uplifted buckled and seemingly sunk on end sometime back when continents crashed. Twice a day we participate in a balance between the light and the darkness, an evening of the day’s luminary extremes. I can close my eyes and pour the day’s decisions and exertions onto an imaginary scale against the weight of thoughts the night will hold. I most often realize I wasn’t paying attention, and the moment takes me by surprise, a leveling bubble tipping towards time. And I play the game of evening it out...a fool’s errand.

starting off February with a brand-new iPhone -- will see whether i can figure out how to use it properly!

More properly known as Bearded Reedlings, but when I was growing up in the 1960's, leafing through my Observers Book of Birds and ticking off sightings on outdoor walks in my I-Spy book, these localised, rare and to me, exotic little beauties that I never imagined I'd see, were called Bearded Tits, so that is how I always refer to them.

Amazing to me that they bred at this site in 2012 and can be seen in Nottinghamshire. A real treat yesterday to watch them industriously feeding on the reed seeds for well over an hour, feet away and largely oblivious to our quiet, entranced, presence.

Thanks for viewing and thank you all for the faves and kind comments, all of which are very much appreciated.

The second light trail shot I got from the other night. I tweaked the white balance here to make the headlight trail look whiter which also makes the image a lot colder, but had the effect of enhancing the "blue hour" sky.

Would have been a lot better if the lights extended to the end of the image properly. Oh well, with more time (and patience) I could have probably cloned and filled the gaps.

I added the moon because it was actually out, but tucked behind the tree. Naturally on a long exposure like this, the moon would have been an overexposed blurry mess, but I thought the addition would break up the flat sky.

Re-edited for 2022.
