Michael Sippey, VP of Six Apart (software company behind Moveable Type) compiled a great list of the specialized lingo project managers use in their daily lives, which I found via Kottke. Reading through it, I was mentally checking off the ones I've heard personally, both at Pop Art, and in my previous lives. I fired up Illustrator, and 10 minutes later, I invented a new game: Lingo Bingo, Project Management Edition. Future editions (Creative, SEO, Developer) forthcoming. Mooney Kelly co-founder and senior partner David Mooney has over 25 years of construction experience. After completing his degree in Quantity Surveying in 1981, David joined a medium-sized practice, where he swiftly progressed to become an associate director. Since leaving that post in 1990 and founding Mooney Kelly, David has been involved in a number of very high-profile projects, including the commercial management of the £160m M&E component of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, where he also headed up a dispute resolution team. Common challenges IT techies face gathering requirements (REQs) from, and communicating with, their clients or other departments or organisations.
In this context "users" are typically those who've ordered or requested a particular system or product to be built. The users tell the techies what they want and the techies build it. The end-users could be the users' customers/consumers/audience or the users themselves.
These challenges were captured from attendees during the first day of Learning Tree's
Identifying and Confirming User Requirements course. It's a course I highly recommend!
