Leah heads to Canada this weekend for school and we wanted her to be able to use Jack's Canadian cell phone plan on her phone. His plan is an old grandfathered one that has lots more data than the new ones offer. The only issue is that his old phone uses a micro SIM while Leah's uses a smaller nano SIM, but I got this cutter for $10 and chopped it down to size, sanded it a little to clean up the edges and to thin it a bit, and presto - it works.

Ok, another Phantom 4 drone photo today. I had a near accident with it tonight. I thought I would test the "return to home" function which brings it back to where it took off. What I forgot is that the function takes the vehicle to 20 m above the ground before it starts flying back, but unfortunately, it was only at about 3 m at the time and there were tree branches about 10 m above. So it started ascending and I couldn't disable it in time to avoid hitting the branches. It has obstacle detection but only forward facing, not for above it. Anyway, it buzzed through leaves like a weed eater before I regained control and landed it. After a thorough inspection and cleaning all the leaf pulp off it, I did another flight and all is well. Whew!

We're adding a screen room to the front of the house and the put in the forms for the foundation today.

My sister & I exchange moose gifts every year on our birthdays and she actually found moose shaped pasta. :-)

I don't have much in the way of photos from Sunday other than this candle shot. Claire and I had a nice quiet Thanksgiving weekend with Jack, and things got even quieter after he left.

I took this tonight after class, lovin this night photography thing. This is the Mary Schenley Memorial Fountain (aka A Song to Nature) outside the Frick Fine Arts Building on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh. I'd like to take a picture of this when the fountain when it's actually on some time so I'll have to revisit another time.

This fountain is comprised of the Greek god, Pan, and above him a female singer playing the lyre.

Another in this series.

Veggies from the garden. It took me three years, but I finally was able to grow zucchini

I'm packing lighter than normal for a one night trip which starts tomorrow. Normally I would have a small roller bag suitcase plus my laptop backpack, but this time I've packed everything into the backpack. I don't know if it helps or hurts, but it somehow feels more efficient.

I keep trying different irrigation methods for my garden. The latest is that I'm replacing all of the individual emitters with soaker hoses. We'll see how it goes over the summer

An old tiny plate of Claire's which broke when she picked it up. It broke right on a previously repaired glue line. (Yet another photo for the day just under the wire...)

This hummingbird buzzed me a few times and then landed on a nearby branch. I know as soon as I turn off the camera and go inside, he will be out, hovering over flowers and the feeder, etc.

Fish in my hair! Or at least an octopus. He made it at school. Oragne, of course, becasue he needs everything orange. He asked for this photo. "Look how I can balance the octopus on my head."

Late Friday night. Violet was slammed at work all week and now she's letting it all hang out.

3rd January 2016 - Took a walk around the cemetery with my zoom lens, it's a good area to take photo's of wildlife and managed to get a a semi-decent picture of a Jay sitting in a tree.

1:20 pm, Dalton Square. Fourth in my series of photos of buildings in Lancaster that used to be cinemas. This was built as a Roman Catholic chapel in 1798, then used by the Lancaster Abstinence Society when the Catholics moved to St. Peters, nearby, and then converted into the Hippodrome cinema in 1906, and renamed the County in 1921. It closed in 1956, and later was converted into Lancaster City Council offices in 1979 (Source for all this is Colin Stansfield, www.britarch.ac.uk/lahs/StansfieldV35Web.pdf)..
