This may give the impression that I'm good at darts. I'm not.

Project365 No.42

Wednesday 11th Febuary 2009

Today was another of those days, those miraculous days where everything seems to fall into place. I really have to write about it, even though words can not come close to how amazing the day went.

It all started with prayer meeting being cancelled, but nevertheless Libby and I decided to meet to pray this morning anyway. We dragged ourselves out of bed at 9am and met to thank God for his amazing love and blessings, we committed the day to Him and then went in our separate ways.

I had a theatre consultation at 10:30 with Wes, so went along to that and afterwards to County Bar to discuss ideas for our hypothetical production we would theoretically be putting on if we had the time and the money. We attempted to decide on a new name for Hamlet Machine, and Mental Head seemed most amusing; sadly that name is off the table.

After this I went back home and played for half an hour on Mario Kart on the Wii, it's my houses new obsession and days are spent withering away infront of the addictive game. Hehe. I've yet to be 1st in a game where more than one of my housemates is playing too so I thought I would get some practice in.

I then had lunch (relatively boring part of the day) and then spoke with Matt P online about the Globe meeting. Turns out he was right, and they DO meet fortnightly not weekly. We went along to the Chaplaincty Centre to see and then when i realised I was wrong we went to County Bar to evangelise!

We sat there for a good hour or so, drinking tea and waiting to see if God gave us any conversations or opportunities to speak to people. County Bar seems to be the most Christian Bar of all of campus however, as all the CU students gather there. We laughed as Stephen M attempted to make the juke box work and repeatedly failed as he pressed the "s" letter on the touch screen. He noticed us in hysterics at this and came to chat to us for a while.

Then I came up with the BEST (obviously really the worst- but still the most hilarious) evangelism line. The guy sitting near to us was left by his girlfriend, and so...

Matt: "You've been abandoned!"

The guy: "Yeh she's gone to buy a cake.. she'll be back."

Matt: "That's what she said she's gone to do anyway... she's not coming back.."

Then imagine if I had jumped in and said...

Rebekah: "I know someone who will NEVER abandon you.." and thrust a Bible under his nose, preaching him the gospel!!

Matt had any idea (lightblub clinks above his head) and so he put a pound on the pool table. In a while he was soon in a conversation and game with the County Pool Team Captain (kudos to Matt!) so after two games the topic of God eventually entered in; Matt simply mentioned that we were involved in the Mission Fortnight... but that is about as far as the conversation went. It's vital to not get put off or disheartened if nothing comes from a conversation with a non-Christian, but we should persevere in it anyway and be led by the Holy Spirit whether to say anything or not.

I then went home to upload photos to flickr and was soon asked by Charlie E (my 2nd year theatre studies/CU friend) if I wanted to go to her house before I had to go to F Plan. This sounded like a good idea so I swfitly grabbed my Bible, Ipod and Purse and ran out the door. 20 minutes later I was greeted by Charlie and a delicious cupcake she had bought me! We watched friends and chatted about the prayer meeting on Monday (which will need another whole bit of writing for...) and then at 6:45 I left to go to the train station.

I met Matt, Natalie and Dan at the station and we hopped in the chauffered (hehe) car to Marcus and Lou's house. Marcus is the Pastor of Christians Alive. Once there we were on the phone to numerous people (Erica/Emily/Chris and many others) about where to go to get there. There was a lot of confusion, Emily wanted to get a taxi as she was late leaving Costa, Erica was walking to the house but had gotten lost and Chris had forgotten and was on his way via bus. I don't know how we managed it, but eventually over 20 Christians gathered in the living room to begin the 12 week F Plan course.

This first session was mainly introductions and why the Cross is important to us. We ended the evening with prayer, and overall it was just a lovely lovely feeling to be in a room with so many people passionate for Jesus. I scanned the faces and realised I am close friends with so many people there, and that is just amazing.

Dan, Chris, Natalie, Matt, Erica, Chris, Emily, Laura etc.. I am so blessed to have such amazing friends, and that they are Christians is just a huge bonus!

We got a lift back to Campus and on my way back to County I decided to take Francis M up on the offer of a cup of tea. We watched "The Kabinette of Dr Caligari" this amazing 1920's German silent film, where Dr Caligari commits murders via a somnambulist. The set of the fim was amazng, with jagged edges and strange shaped windows and doors. It reminded Francis and I of his room, where there exists not a single right angle! Even the square light in the centre of the ceiling wasn't parallel to any wall.

Francis and I then went to see Wagtale as they were recording some more tracks in the studio, I left the building and immediately saw Matt P and David Toft (this was a good few hours after F Plan and Matt had said he was going to bed..) so we went back to David's flat in Bowland. We spoke about evangelism, God and the possibility of starting up a worship band :) Then Matt and David went to collect their washing (12:10AM!) and I went back home, to sleep I thought.

I ended up spending about half an hour with Alex watching videos by Charlie Brooker about how stupid and brainwashing the media can be. I eventually got back to my room and checked the internet before crashing asleep and mulling over the day I'd just spent.

To conclude, I spoke to many Christians and this was really encouraging and just got me so enthusiastic again. I spoke to a few non-Christians too, and the topic of God did enter some conversations for a while. It's a strat and seeds are being sewn, no matter how small they are. All in all a fantastic day doing a variety of things and I pray for many many more!

Well fancy! I was just checking my ID and I see that candelsnuff fungus contains both anti-viral properties and compounds that are active against some human carcinomas.

A Ford vehicle themed bar diner that we ate in. The food was very good, the decor was entertaining (see image) and I have acquired a taste for bourbon espresso martinis and Skrewball peanut butter flavoured bourbon!

Today, I've just been relaxing. I'm trying to find a way to overcome my fear of anxiety. I'm going to the doctor for it but, this is a emotional thing. It all has to do with your control over your emotions. I need to try and control them. I'm not gonna let this control me.

I was cooking lunch earlier today and it all went quiet. This is what I found! :)

Sep 7 First, I must say, our office is nice. The back passage is the exception. This is the express route to the break room and smoking area/fire exit. It is full of cobwebs, dust, and insect remnants. Nice isn't it :-D?!

Day 1 of Project 365

October 8

I bought these shoes a few years ago and have only worn them once. Why, you ask? Because they hurt soooo much!! But I can not part with them, so they just stay in my closet. Sad, huh? But they are just so pretty and sparkly!

Tea the saviour. Long day today, so not an amazing shot

A special treat!!! My first real DSLR-Like camera was a brand new Olympus E-20n I bought in early 2002. I found one on eBay that works and was cheap! Just like I remember, slow and cumbersome. I replaced it with an Olympus E-1 in 2004. (GASP! Was that foreshadowing?!?!?!?)

365_315 SOOC + sharpened, with ISO 2000 it had to be done.

Some days my heart just breaks. I adore old wooden buildings although majority is actually non inhabitable or so you would think. I was admiring the beauty hidden beneath the patina of the past of an ex-gorgeous wooden palace now rotting and falling apart, with boarded windows, decidedly abandoned. Yet there was a makeshift blue door with a new(ish) padlock on it. While staring at it and contemplating I attracted attention of the guy nearby, he showed up and invited me in. I called my darling photo buddy over and in we went thinking he'll show us, I don't know, caved-in roof, hidden backyard, view from top floor... We entered and .... got our senses assaulted. Mould, rabble, decay and amongst all this a single room, lovingly made into his home. Fabrics covering the walls, single harsh light and no daylight, a big bed, a bathroom corner, a food corner and lots of memories. He was kind and warm, his home was amazingly clean and yes he spends the daylight hours outside on the street. No, not begging.

He is not the only one in this city of millions. There are so many anonymous, forgotten people here, scraping a living, one day he'll be gone and there will be no trace of him.

For now he is there and he is lonely.

While framing I included the framed portrait of Ataturk, the famous Turkish leader long buried, since he drew attention to him repeatedly. He had several portraits.

My buddy's photo of his room is here: www.flickr.com/photos/17054207@N04/5176447786/

I kept the shot as it is, harsh, ugly colours, too much contrast derived from the lamp overhead - because this is the truth. And this truth is not pretty.

I'll visit him soon to bring him a photo since he wanted one. My heart will break again, I have no happy photo to give him.
