Scenario exercise: participants conduct a rescue operation to safely evacuate a contaminated person from a chemical hazard zone.

The practical scenario-based exercise is part of the OPCW pilot programme to develop a global pool of trainers for chemical emergency preparedness, organised by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) with support from the Government of Italy. Participants learned how to respond to chemical incidents and how to impart training skills to others to do the same.

The course was held from 23 to 27 March 2026 at the OPCW Centre for Chemistry and Technology, and CBRN Defense Centre (Defensie CBRN Centrum) of the Dutch Armed Forces in Vught, The Netherlands.

New system to measure air quality

• India is tying up with the United States and Finland to develop a pollution-forecast system.

• It will help anticipate particulate matter (PM) levels at least two days in advance and at a greater resolution than what is possible now.

• At present, the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, serves as the apex forecaster of pollution trends in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad.

• It generates a likely air quality profile, a day in advance, for these cities.

• IITM is an organisation under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES).

Viet Nam is positioning itself as a food innovation hub for Asia, and is building its reputation as a responsible, transparent, and sustainable food provider in the process. As part of this transformation from agri-food systems based on crop monocultures and separate intensive livestock rearing, sustained by environmentally disruptive chemicals, it is putting agroecology at the heart of its efforts. This commitment was highlighted during a side event, ‘Harnessing the potential of agroecology in Southeast Asia to transform food systems to become sustainable’, at the 4th Global Conference of the One Planet Network‘s Sustainable Food System Programme (SFS Programme) in Hanoi on 25th April 2023.
