In 2005, as soon as London won the bid to host the 2012 Games, a multi-disciplinary programme of archaeological and historical research was set in motion. Its purpose was to reveal and record the cultural heritage of some 246 hectares of the Lower Lea Valley, some of it deeply buried, before the bulldozers moved in and site was transformed into the Olympic Park.
121 evaluation trenches, eight areas of detailed excavation, and 52 built heritage sites produced some 10,000 archaeological finds spanning over 10,000 years, hundreds of environmental samples and numerous radiocarbon dates.
These 10,000 archaeological finds included a small, clinker-built boat, well preserved in the river silts. It may have been built originally as a ship’s tender for a larger, sea-going vessel, used for ferrying people to and from shore. Later a keel was added and it was converted to a small sailing boat, possibly a pleasure craft. Finally, it was used as a gun punt, fitted with a large-barrelled shotgun, for wild-fowling on the waters of the lower River Lea and the Thames. Patched up and repaired over its long life, late in the 19th century it was eventually abandoned.

The current UNDP programme cycle expires at the end of 2015, and a new UNDP Country Programme covering the period from 2016 to 2020 has been drafted. The new Country Programme is based on the United Nations – Azerbaijan Partnership Framework (UNAPF) and aligned with the priorities of the Azerbaijan: Vision 2020 national development strategy.
As part of the national consultative process, UNDP plans to present the draft Country Programme for discussion with the government partners, to validate the expected results and outputs and agree on the implementation arrangements. A national workshop was organized on 12 March 2015. Based on the comments and feedback from the Government, UNDP will finalize the Country Programme and submit it for review and approval by the UNDP Executive Board.

The WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger hosted the visit of a multi-sectoral Rwanda delegation from April 17th to April 26th. The main goal was to learn about the Brazilian experience with school feeding and enhance skills to design and implement a sustainable school feeding programme integrating different sectors/ministries and based on local production.
