Albino Perra Herrera with family and friends at home, at work in his cheese making business, and working on the campaign [please requst more details]. From a May/June 2007 visit to document Rare Conservation's Pride program with Albino Perra Herrera in the Great American Grassland high desert around Janos, Mexico in the northern region of the state of Chihuahua. This effort focuses on education and training around the sustainable use of the grassland prairies. Issues include poorly managed grazing, excessive and sometimes illegal water use, and other extractive and heavily impacting agricultural practices. At stake is the largest remaining intact grassland praires in North America and a critical ecosystem for hundreds of migrating bird species, and a large number of reptile and mammal species including the black footed ferret, North America's most endangered mammal species. Janos, Mexico is also the location of the largest black-tailed prairie dog colony in the world. Photos courtesy of Jason Houston, www.jasonhouston.com .

NEWPORT, R.I. – International students assigned to the U.S. Naval War College (NWC) are greeted by NWC President Rear Adm. Pete Garvin during a welcome ceremony August 14, 2023. Students from the Naval Command College and Naval Staff College along with their families and sponsors, were welcomed by NWC faculty and staff as they begin their 11-month residential programs in Newport. The programs are designed to build trust, confidence, and cooperation between American and international officers while building enduring friendships and partnerships amongst students and their families. Established in 1884, NWC informs today’s decision-makers and educates tomorrow’s leaders by providing educational experiences and learning opportunities that develop their ability to anticipate and prepare strategically for the future, strengthen the foundations of peace, and create a decisive warfighting advantage.
