I took several shots of this painting that my mom and dad bought over 50 years ago. I have inherited it and it hangs proudly on one of my walls. It is of "The Court Jester" and though I don't know the artist, I think he did a magnificent job. I will be posting a couple other shots of it later. Hope no one minds. I'm doing some photography practice! :)
A bit of history:
History of the Court Jester
There's No Fool in the Jester
By Glenn Church, published Apr 22, 2008
The jester has a long, historical tradition. Contrary to modern perception, the jester is more than a clown or an entertainer. Although usually associated with medieval Europe, the jester goes back to the earliest period of civilization. Rome, China, India, even Africa and pre-Columbus America had varying roles for a jester.
It was in Europe where jesters had some of their greatest influence. Often called a fool, joker, clown or even less honorable names, the jester's position was actually one of entertainment and political advice. The jester often walked a fine line between the acceptable and the profane. This, however, was because the jester could speak of things no one else in a king's court dare.
Since the jester did outrageous things all the time, he could speak the grave truth and get away with it as something said in "jest". The jester could dispense advice to a king that no one else dare. Undoubtedly, many who wished to influence the king did so through the jester.
The fine line between entertainer and advisor did not give the jester immunity, however. Advice that was too critical could lead to the same fate as any other who opposed the king. Many jesters lost their jobs and lives by overstepping their verbal license.
A jester did not have to be of noble birth. He could be a commoner. He could be learned as a monk or a scholar. He could also be an apprentice of a trade or even a peasant. Jesters were often employed by nobles and could move up to the royal court, as their antics became known. As such, the jester was one of the few upwardly mobile positions in medieval times. Some became quite famous in their day, like a David Letterman or Jay Leno.
Jesters were entertainers foremost. Even their clothes were to make them look like a clown. With dangling bells, colorful and mismatching patterns, the jester was amusing to look at. The jester's cap or cockscomb had three points for the ears and tail of the ass.

Holy Week (Good Friday ) is the period in which Christianity, and in particular the Catholic Church celebrates the faith of events related to the last days of Jesus, including in particular his Passion, Death and Resurrection.

One might have supposed that whoever turned "Truck Stop" into "Sunk Stop" might have chosen a more profane alternative as regards the first word.

The profane becomes something special
Actually, they are all at the same time: philosophical, almost political, humorous, artisan, artistic and simply essential, Wolfram Zimmer's broom. Zimmer makes brooms, turns brooms into exhibits, paints with brooms, paints brooms and plays with the word around the broom.

11 years have passed since I was last in the Sicilian town of Alcara Li Fusi, for me it is easy to know, I just need to see when I took the photographs of the double and contemporary anniversary held in Alcara Li Fusi, photographs that I have posted at the time on Flickr, they are two holidays that are celebrated on the same day of June 24, both holidays proceed together and parallel without ever mixing with each other, one dates back to an ancient pagan rite, the other is a purely religious occasion, probably in the past the Church tried to suppress the pagan rite by superimposing the cult for San Giovanni, but in fact this fortunately did not happen, so that in the early afternoon until the early evening we witness the procession for San Giovanni, while with the late evening arrival we witness the pagan rite of “Muzzuni”: the photographs that I present here try to describe what I saw in Alcara Li Fusi on June 24th. The "feast of Muzzuni" originates from an ancient pagan rite, on the brochures we read that this is the oldest popular festival in Italy, with characteristics that seem to originate from the Hellenic civilization, enclosing ancient rites from the peasant world, as a rite propitiatory turned towards the fertility of the earth, in a broad sense it is aimed at love, nature, rebirth (U 'Muzzuni others is only a phallic symbol); the term "Muzzuni" which would seem to have similarities "with the severed head" of St. John the Baptist, actually comes either from the "neckless jug" or refers to the mowed and collected wheat in bundles called "mazzuna"; this propitiatory rite that has come down to us, is of Greek and profane origin, it was imported by the ancient peoples who arrived in Sicily and from the Minor States of Greece: these peoples venerated rural divinities, among these Demeter (of the Earth), Kore (of Vegetation), Aphrodite (of Love), Adonis (of Fertility), and Dionysus (of Euphoria), these populations maintained these cults in the territories they colonized, and this is how their survival in Alcara Li Fusi is explained ; in the streets that cross the town small altars are prepared, on them will be placed "U 'Muzzuni" which is therefore a jug with a stub neck, from which ears of corn and carnations emerge, covered with a silk scarf and adorned with gold which belong to the families of the neighborhood, the walls of these altars are adorned with typical carpets woven with a pedal loom (the Pizzare), on the Pizza plates are placed with the "Laureddi", which are stalks of wheat sprouted in the dark; this "the pagan component", then there is the "Christian component", dedicated to the beheaded martyr Saint, St. John the Baptist.

When the 13nth hour chimes
And the Novice cries out in the night
Like a bird dying of joy
And all the princes wonder
Why their lives bleed away in dreary boredom
Walk under the moon my friend
Drink of the Silver fever
Dripping near the Magdalene Asylum
Seek her song in shimmering forest glades
Made Dark by cloistered secrets
Fear not, the flight of inky satin beyond the branches
Shapes shift between those smoky veils
Whispering the forms beneath
Dancing gentle like the flames
In candles held sweetly from the draft
Look if you dare
Into the deep ocean eyes
So full of innocent wonder
And the most profane gratitude
Look if you dare

The monastic complex of San Paolo reached its greatest splendour in the 15th and 16th centuries during the regency of the abbesses Cecilia Bergonzi and Giovanna da Piacenzza.
This room is the room of the abbess Giovanna da Piacenzza and was frescoed by the Parmesan artist Alessandro Araldi in 1514.
The painter created the ceiling of the room with a system of grotesques in the ancient style, very close to the canons of Roman painting of the time, representing profane and sacred scenes.
There is a vault decorated with candelabras on a blue background, surrounded by roundels, panels and lunettes illustrating scenes from the Old and New Testaments.
On top of the mountains, we saw the Apachetas, piles of stones, which are offerings to Pachamama, Mother Nature.
Each stone represents a problem that, when taken up the mountain, lies behind. In a pile, there are many problems of different people. Interesting is the analogy of pilasters that serve as a bridge between the sacred and the profane, between two worlds, such as church towers, totems, minarets (travel associative in travel ...).
whatever that mean
any body have an idea? I'ma go google it and see where my wandering mind might have picked it up from. Wodehouse maybe...

The work “Spinoza-Car” is the work of a fan of the philosopher Spinoza. There are two different kinds of elements in the “Spinoza-Car”: I call them the ‘spiritual’ ones and the ‘profanes’ ones. The ‘spiritual’ ones are all the commonly-used inscriptions and testimonies of love made of cardboard, books and other objects, and the ‘profane’ ones are all the drinking glasses taped to the car.
What you see is a night shot of the highly baroque facade from 1668, decorated with statues of profane wealthy Venetians, such as the nouveau riches Vicenzo and Geralomo Fini. In the 17th century, it was forbidden to display statues in the public space of Venice, but by financing this church, the Fini family largely succeeded in leaving their convincing traces of importance in the facade of this church and hence in the image of Venice. Inside the church is the grave of a more famous and innovative man, the Scot John Law, economist and mathematician (who invented the bank notes but also the ponzi-scheme), who lived the final years of his remarkable life in Venice.

The red torii gate in the World Showcase Lagoon at Epcot is based on the one that serves as the entrance to the Itsukushima Shrine on the Inland Sea. The layout of the Japan pavilon is done in such a way to have all elements within view of the entry gate, which orients the person to his or her surroundings.
Torii in Japanese means bird perch. It's commonly used to mark the entrance to a scared place. Most Shinto shrines and lots of Buddhist temples have a Torii gate on the road the leads into the temple. The Torii marks the transition from the profane to the sacred (or vice versa).

In the cloister, the carved consoles on the wall side and the capitals on the garden side evoke both profane and sacred subjects, real and fantastic. Animals, in particular, are numerous. They illustrate this medieval world populated by beasts and monsters, wild and domestic fauna (bears, camels, rams, donkeys), sometimes fantastic (tarasques, dragons, chimeras...) or even these disturbing beings, human faces wearing horns and rubbing shoulders with devils surrounded by flames... These remarkable sculptures are reminiscent of the cloister of the cathedral of Saint-Trophime in Arles or the sculptures of the Château de Tarascon where we find this fantastic bestiary, incarnation of the devil (the Drac, celebrated in Beaucaire).
Pictures to come of the consoles and capitals

With seemingly endless arcades of vermilion torii (shrine gates) spread across a thickly wooded mountain, this vast shrine complex is a world unto its own. It is, quite simply, one of the most impressive and memorable sights in all of Kyoto.

The Atsara is an integral part of many Bhutanese festivals. Primarily an agent of mirth and merriment, the red faced comical characters are generally thought of as clowns, wielding phalluses at tshechu festivals. The Atsara character, however, is more than just entertainment. The Atsara combines the spirits of the sacred and the profane, wit and wisdom, humour and responsibility. He uses his pranks to help his audiences not only to forget their worries and problems but also to prod them to overcome their sense of self-importance, hypocrisy and false propriety.

Pier Paolo Pasolini was an Italian film director, poet, writer and intellectual. Pasolini also distinguished himself as an actor, journalist, philosopher, novelist, playwright, painter and political figure.
He remains a controversial personality in Italy to this day due to his blunt style and the focus of some of his works on taboo sexual matters, but he is an established major figure in European literature and cinematic arts. His murder prompted an outcry in some circles of Italy, with its circumstances continuing to be a matter of heated debate.
Pier Paolo Pasolini that Ernest Pignon-Ernest immortalizes by mixing religious iconography with the profane world. In other words, Pasolini, as in Michelangelo's Pieta, holds in his arms his own tortured body. Ernest Pignon-Ernest sketched it on the very spot where the poet and director (from the popular neighborhood of Rome's Trastevere to the Ostia beach where he was murdered) lived, then photographed them, including Those that have been broken or torn, as if the figure of Pasolini, Catholic, communist and homosexual, always disturbed.
