I’m trying to get looser in my work. Chaos does not come naturally to me. I did a series of three action paintings all in one sitting. I was happy with the first and last, they are presented here As Action Painting #3 and action Painting #5. They were all done in the same Photoshop file so I was also able to combine them as layers in different combinations. One of those is also presented here.

I originally rejected this as not being good enough to release. I couldn’t see a way to “finish“ it. With the passage of a little time I have come to like it more and see it as finished.

This was created on my iPad Pro using Repix and Procreate - I am plugging along on the iPad but liking the possibilities.

100% procreate. Real fun to do! Mixture between painting and photobashing. Truly amazed how great this little app works!

American painter and draftsman Charles Houghton Howard (1899-1978) is known for his abstract-Surrealist works that he described as “ideographic.” He was one of the vanguards of American artists who introduced European surrealism and biomorphic expressionism into the U.S. art world. Having never studied art formally, he approached his process intuitively and assimilating various formal and conceptual references.

Howard created "The Progenitors' in 1947. Rendered with crisp precision, the various forms in the composition are silhouetted against a luminous blue background suggestive of a limitless void or a cosmic realm. The hairlike tendrils that meander down the center of the composition underscore the biological associations of the work's title conveying a sense of generative, even procreative energy.
