The foliage of Nicotiana tabacum, Common Tobacco, is particularly green rather late this year. It's now almost in beautifully pink flower (www.flickr.com/photos/87453322@N00/22836771431/in/photoli...).
That green is a nice backdrop for two orange, procreating Cabbage Sawflies, Athalia rosae).

Cheers to all my Flickr friends for a safe and happy 2025! Thank you all for your support!

Last Sunday, with just a few hours to be out on the roads, Anita and I stopped at a little Mom and Pop country store right on the edge of the road and got a couple of sandwiches. As we sat on the bench out front eating, Anita spotted this pair doing the deed. They were quite oblivious of us but nearly got stepped on by some guy who ignored our warnings! Yikes! I guess you never know what sort of drama you're going to encounter out on those back country roads! They were absolutely the biggest Salamanders I've ever seen! Have a blessed Sabbath day today. Baby and I are traveling south to Roanoke today for Church. :)
Love is in the air, or I should say on the Oat grass kernels!
I walked by several stands of Oat grass before I noticed they were covered in Soldier Beetles looking for mates or already engaged in the mating ritual. Usually I would prefer to use my 105mm macro lens for insects, but I had my birding lens with me, so I used it at full zoom extension- 400mm. It blurred out the sunny background while producing sharp rendering of the beetles, which were in bright shade.
Very happy with how this turned out, and I imagine there will be many more Soldier beetles as a result of the many couplings happening that evening :)
