In This Video the roof repair specialist shows us that it is not always the roof that can cause a leak. Badly deteriorating chimney is the leak source along with a plumbing stack that was not properly flashed or sealed.

Utah's Goose Problem
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is seeking the public's ideas about how to manage increasing numbers of Canada geese that are finding Utah's golf courses, sod farms and other urban and suburban areas inviting places to visit.
While many people thrill to see Canada geese in urban and suburban settings, the geese themselves are causing problems.
In parks and other open areas near water, Canada geese are denuding lawns of vegetation and creating conflicts with their droppings and feather litter. Goose droppings in heavy concentrations can overfertilize lawns and can contribute to excessive algae growth in lakes that may result in fish kills and contamination of municipal water supplies.
Geese also have been involved in a growing number of aircraft strikes at airports across the country, resulting in dangerous takeoff and landing conditions and costly repairs.
Canada geese are drawn to these areas because they consist of ideal goose habitat — park-like open areas with short grass adjacent to small bodies of water.
Tom Aldrich, waterfowl coordinator for the Division of Wildlife Resources, says Utah is experiencing increasing problems with Canada geese as development has brought golf courses, sod farms and other enticing areas closer to wetland areas where geese live.
He also said that Canada goose populations are increasing in the western United States and geese have learned that many urban and suburban areas are good places to escape hunting pressure in the fall.
Preventing geese from visiting areas such as golf courses has been challenging. Chemical treatments of golf course lawns, for example, are very expensive, Aldrich said.
Hunting on golf courses also has proven largely ineffective because it takes place close to buildings and many people find the hunting of geese on golf courses unacceptable, Aldrich said.
Noise devices to keep geese off golf courses also have largely failed because they disturb golfers and people living near the golf courses.
Aldrich said there has been some success with training dogs to chase away geese that land on golf courses, but these dogs cost thousands of dollars to buy and train.
The options the Service is proposing range from doing nothing to treating Canada geese involved in these situations like pest species. In between those extremes are options that include managing habitat to make it less attractive to geese; harassment, trapping and relocation of birds; and more direct population stabilization and reduction programs.
It is the options at the far end of the scale that concern Aldrich the most. "If it went to the one extreme, it could have a very negative effect on our local, breeding birds," Aldrich said. "If you allow someone to go out and kill every goose that is believed to be causing a problem, you're eventually going to dramatically impact our local breeding populations."
Aldrich said that type of management option will probably not be supported by states west of the Rocky Mountains, which in part make up what is called the Pacific Flyway.
"I doubt any of the states in this flyway will support an option that doesn't have a very controlled and focused process that dictates when and where you can use various removal methods, and under what circumstances," Aldrich said.
Aldrich said this issue is an important one because Utah's goose populations are not only important to Utah residents, but are appreciated by people in adjacent states where Utah-reared geese often spend the winter.

Neue Ideen: Demographische Entwicklung in der EU bzw. Deutschland

This is the "film d'essai" (test film) of my newly-arrived FOCA PF2B, a French range-finder 35mm camera manufactured in 1948.
The finder of the camera is quite foggy and, while the range-finder is indeed operating, it is almost impossible to use it for focusing and even framing is uncomfortable. When necessary (distances bellow ca 5-6m), exact distances were measured using a LASER meter and reporting the result to the camera distance scale. Due to the same finder problem, I used my external FOCA Universel finder during all the test.
The focal shutter operates smoothly at all settings from B to 1/1000s .
The camera was loaded with an Rollei Superpan 200 (Agfa Aviphot 200) 36-exposure film. It was exposed for 200 ISO using an Autometer III Minolta lightmeter fitted with a 10° finder for selective measurements privileging the shadow areas. The Oplar lens was equipped with a generic 1A push-on 42mm protective filter and a generic cylindrical shade hood.
Rollei Superpan 200 (i.e. Agfa Aviphot 200) is a super-panchromatic film coated on a thin polyester teraphtalate (PET) base with a water-soluble black anti-halation coat on the back that should be removed by two or three presoaking bathes before developing. The film sensitivity is extended to the near infrared to 780 nm.
Camera preparation fro film loading, May 17, 2023

After exposure, the film was revealed using Adox Adonal (Agfa Rodinal) developper at dilution 1+25 and 20°C for 8min. The film was then digitalized using a Sony A7 body fitted to a Minolta Slide Duplicator installed on a Minolta Auto Bellows III with a lens Minolta Bellow Macro Rokkor 50mm f/3.5. I used here for the first time a new light LED source (NEEWER RGB61 Mini portable LED light). The RAW files obtained were processed without intermediate files in LR and edited to the final jpeg pictures.
All views of the film are presented in the dedicated album either in the printed framed versions and unframed full-size jpeg accompanied by some documentary smartphone Vivio Y76 color pictures.
About the camera :
This Foca PF2B is an early series (circa 1948) of the Foca PF2B 35mm range-finder camera appeared in 1947. The PF2B model of Foca has the 36mm screw mount of other Foca PF (PF standing for "Petit Format"). Foca camera's were constructed in France by the company "Optique & Precision de Levallois" (OPL) in the OPL factory of Chateaudun (Eure) starting from 1946. This factory still exists under the name of SAFRAN a French company producing aerospace devices and systems.
The camera is equipped with a collapsible OPLAR lens 1:3.5 f=5cm.
Problem- 3 tab shingle one layer only- shingles not lined up properly when installed and exposure under tabs
Leak 6’ from bottom of roof- ½”-3/4” exposure of shingles tab and water touching wood -roof deck from snow and ice pushing up. Many rusted nails
Tarred under many tabs where the water touching wood.
Leak area areas patched under tabs but not a perm fix
Water was also pouring into tabs as he has plank decking not roof deck sheets or boards and water in cracks in every plank of wood.
Couldn’t pull up every tab and seal or would have been there all day
Perm fix:
Will need underlayment under shingles- will experience more leaks until roof is replaced based on condition and new roof is required asap and Spring is urgent
When replacement is done the roof wood planks need to be replaced with ¾” plywood for roof deck with underlayment and re shingled.
