This bridge illustrates one of the problems in shooting these bridges. It runs essentially east-west and the best sunlight falls on the south side. The access that I could find from that side gave me no good view of the bridge, though, so I shot from the north side, getting the best angles I could and processed for best detail, often overexposing the background.
I have the same problem with bridges that run north-south, but at least with those I may be at the bridge at a time when there is good light on the side to which I have best access.
I prefer the way that black and white shows detail on these bridges, especially the rusty or timber ones, and I have always been partial to black and white anyway, but, frequently, this exposure issue is a factor in the choice.

#1: If there is a persistent musty odor.

Nota: Dopo aver seguito questo tema dal 2012-22, la mancanza di sicurezza (= eccesso di spazzatura, borseggiatori, venditori illegali di biglietti e rigattieri) nei confronti dei turisti stranieri nelle aree del Colosseo, della scalinata del Campidoglio, della Fontana di Trevi e il Vaticano! È davvero inutile discutere di problemi e questioni... al Comune di Roma e alla Polizia semplicemente non interessa!

Piazza del Colosseo, afa estiva, via vai di turisti stranieri, bivacchi sui marciapiedi. Cartoline degne di una foto di Martin Parr. In principio era il salta-fila, ora l’abbocco dei promoter turistici sulla strada è quello del biglietto “fast & safe”, veloce e sicuro, in una parola, garantito, che offre al turista sprovveduto il miraggio di dribblare lo spettro del tutto-esaurito. «No sold-out, stai serena, vieni con me, ti porto al gruppo che sta per entrare». Parla perfetto inglese e spagnolo. Origini, extracomunitarie. Signore e signori, ecco che al Colosseo e ai Musei Vaticani va in scena il perfetto business del bagarinaggio. L’abbocco tradizionale dello “skip the line”, del salta-la-fila, cede il passo ad una nuova strategia figlia dei tempi (e delle regole) post Covid. «La pandemia ha portato un grande cambiamento rispetto ad anni fa: i biglietti possono essere comprati solo online e non è più possibile acquistarli alle casse in loco», precisa Isabella Ruggiero presidente dell’Agta, l’Associazione delle Guide turistiche abilitate.

Il sistema
«L’obbligo della prenotazione e l’eliminazione delle casse ha vari aspetti positivi: permette di gestire al meglio il numero di biglietti, di “spalmare” i flussi e di evitare le file. Ma contrasta in parte il bagarinaggio perché i salta-fila erano quelli che si avvantaggiavano di più dalla vendita in loco». Molti sono i turisti che arrivano preparati. Ma una buona fetta sono sprovveduti. Loro, la nuova legione dei bagarini si muovono ad arte intorno al Colosseo e in zona Vaticano. «I bagarini lavorano tutti per agenzie organizzatissime - sottolinea Isabella Ruggiero - che hanno mezzi tecnologici e finanziari per comprare i biglietti quando vengono immessi online, sia quelli del Colosseo che dei Musei Vaticani. E questo danneggia gli altri operatori del turismo sia il visitatore, perché si registra il tutto esaurito in pochi secondi». E bisogna fare una distinzione: «I “capi” della piazza sono adesso soprattutto dell’Europa dell’Est, romeni e serbi, e italiani, mentre del Pakistan o India, sono soprattutto quelli che adescano e vendono tour, e vengono pagati dalle agenzie a seconda di quanto vendono». Al Colosseo sono operativi sul lato tra via dei Fori Imperiali e l’Arco di Costantino, sulla terrazza di Largo Agnesi, all’uscita della metro Colosseo. Ma costi? «Per una visita al primo livello intorno all’arena sono 35 euro, se paghi cash. Se paghi con carta di credito, abbiamo il poss, ma diventano 40».

La spiegazione è dettagliata e precisa. «Abbiamo un tour ora in spagnolo, poi un tour in inglese. Puoi scegliere». Non solo. «I biglietti del tour al Colosseo con la visita ai sotterranei, che sono i più richiesti, e che costano da tariffa istituzionale 24 euro, li rivendono a 90-100», racconta la Ruggiero. Il turista italiano, in realtà, non lo cercano molto. Forse perché più scaltro e preparato. La strategia non cambia ai Musei Vaticani, che «da soli rappresentano ormai un terzo di tutto il sistema turistico di Roma», spiega Isabella Ruggiero. Presidi studiati al millimetro. Si mettono anche appena fuori del Colonnato di San Pietro, soprattutto sul lato di Porta Sant’Anna. «A volte per prendere gente raccontano frottole - dice Ruggiero - Anche se non c’è la fila, dicono che senza il loro biglietto non possono entrare, o che dentro ai musei poi trovano una fila terribile». Si piazzano davanti al Caffè Vaticano, dove i taxi scaricano i turisti. Lungo le mura verso l’entrata dei musei, in cima alle scale di via Tunisi. E la svolta è anche sul look. Casual, da turisti. Pochi i badge, spariti i cartelli, niente scritte tarocche sulle magliette.
L’outfit
Insomma, l’outfit punta alla mimetizzazione. Soprattutto al Colosseo. Qui, sulla piazza, i bagarini hanno un sistema di sentinelle. Ieri, per esempio, alle 12,30 è arrivata la Guardia di Finanza ed è scattato l’allarme. Passaparola. E i venditori dell’easy-ticket sono entrati in modalità turisti: seduti su muretti. Profilo basso. C’è da dire che sulla piazza spicca uno spiegamento di forze, con un presidio di polizia locale. Fisso, su un lato del Colosseo (quello verso via Fori imperiali). Forse troppo fisso?
