Earlier in the year my uncle came up with his P6 - I shot a couple of films and really enjoyed it. Now the films are developed we have a problem. All the frames have this black area at the bottom. We assume some sticky shutter problem :-(

Prunus cerasus purchased from Stark Bros, in second leaf. Tree has healthy, problem free history. Planted in full sun, neutral soil.
Yellow sacs appx. 1mm diameter first noticed 6/20/2010. Two to four sacs attached at joint between leaf base and petiole, or on the petiole very close to leaf base.
Leaves over half the tree look slightly chlorotic. Don't know if this is due to excessive rain / overclouding or due to pest activity.
First signs of leaf chewing 6/21/10 on only a few leaves.
First signs of leaf curling at ends of stems, especially on smaller leaves, afternoon 6/21/10.
Several leaves have powdery, white substance on underside.

In this problem, we try and gain a little context for why the tennis ball ricocheted so dramatically off the basketball. For simplicity, we assume that all collisions are elastic.
This is not conceptually a tricky problem, but we have to really break the problem into pieces as described here. For complex problems, you need multiple concepts for multiple parts, and organizing your thinking on this will pay off.
Here is the solution. Note that there's a lot of mini problems here.
Between snapshot 1 and snapshot 2, the ball falls. Energy or projectile motion are both appropriate
Between snapshot 2 and snapshot 3 we are assuming there's an elastic collision of the basketball with the floor. As there's just one object with kinetic energy, it must rebound with the opposite speed it came in with.
Between snapshot 3 and snapshot 4 we have a collision between two objects. As with most collisions, we use conservation of momentum. This leaves us with two unknowns. It being an elastic collision, we can also use conservation of kinetic energy, which gives us the same two unknowns. I solved the momentum equation for final velocity of the basketball and plugged into the energy equation.
This took a lot of work and I'll freely admit I made several errors doing it. You would not be expected to do this kind of math under pressure on a test. But you would be expected to know that it's what needs to be done, and you certainly would have to know that both equations are relevant and how to set them up.
Between snapshot 4 and 5 you have a ball flying up in the air, so it could be either projectile motion or conservation of energy
