The inventor of Meccano was the Englishman Frank Hornby (1863-1936), who was an accountant at the time of its invention. He came up with the idea of building system after he started to make canned toys for his two sons to in 1899. He built bridges, trucks and cranes, but the components were not interchangeable. At one point, however, he realized that if he could make that faster with bolts interchangeable parts, he could manufacture various models. Then he began to experiment with strips of copper plate with holes at a distance of half an inch.

Speed: 100 km/h
Production time: 1946 - 1953
Production output: 425,156

Special:
- This first Beetle is called "brilletje" ("pair of glasses") in The Netherlands, because of its rear window shape.
- Typ 1 ("Beetle") was a combination of ideas, which were "composed" by Ferdinand Porsche.
- However, most parts of the car are designed by Béla Barényi and / or Erwin Komenda.
- According to others, the Hungarian Josef Ganz was the designer.
- Fact is that the Volkswagen KdF prototype (in 1934) very similar is to the Tatra V570, developed by Hans Ledwinka, engineer Czech automaker Tatra and the Zündapp Typ 12, designed by Ferdinand Porsche.
- So it remains unclear who is the actual creator of the "Beetle" concept.
- The characteristic four-cylinder air-cooled boxer engine of the Beetle was designed by Franz Reimspiess.
- The first postwar Beetles were built under the supervision of the British army in the "Wolfsburg Motor Works".
- On January 1, 1948 Heinrich Nordhoff was appointed director and under his leadership emerged an export model in July 1949.
- The export model differed from the standard model by a special paint and some chrome trim, like this model on the photo.
- In 1951, the car got a new gearbox which the 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears were synchronized.
- This Typ 1 Beetle has only one exhaust pipe. Beetles after August 1, 1955 were delivered with the dual exhaust pipes.
- The Beetle improved time after time (model after model ☺) but one thing they all (1946-1972/79) have in common: the rubber sealing of the engine compartment.

Special:
- While visiting the VW factory in 1947, Dutch car importer Ben Pon came up wîth the idea for the Bus (drawn on the back of his cigar box ☺) as we know it today.
- At first the T1a was only produced in the Wolfsburg plant, but from March 8, 1956 in a new plant in Hanover (VW-Werk Hannover).
- The improved T2s were built, like the T1s, on the "T-platform" with on ladder chassis with a self-supporting body.
- The air-cooled boxer engine is mounted (low hidden away) in the back.
- It has rear wheel drive with a four-speed manual gearbox.
- From model year 1968 (August 1967) all had T2s has a two-circuit brake system and from August 1970 disc brakes on the front axle.
- In 1971 came a stronger "flat engine" (1.7 liters capacity) available and the Transporter could be provided from 1972 with a three-speed automatic.
- This "tilt car" is very high ☺!
- The whole T2 range was built between 1967 and 1979 in Germany, but also in Argentina, Mexico and later even in Brasil (1976-2013).
- The Type 2 was in a number of characteristic variations are available, like "normal" with or without windows, campers with comfortable interiors, with 'skylight' windows or sliding sunroofs, Kleinbus, Pick-Ups with double or single cabins (like this one) and many custom made models such as ambulances, fire trucks, police vehicles etc.

- The base maodel was designed by Mario Revelli di Beaumont while René Dumas made the final design.
- "Aronde" is an old French term for "Swallow". This term was used because the swallow also graced the Simca logo at that time.
- “P” stands for "personnaliser” / “customized” and “60” for the coming decade (meaning "ahead of its time”). Unofficially, the “P” also refers to "Pigozzi," (Henri Théodore Pigozzi - 1898-1964) the charismatic and iconic SIMCA boss.
- The Aronde P60 Ranch is a more luxurious estate version of the Aronde P60 Châtelaine 3-door estate/station wagon (1958-1960) with a new front end (resembling the 1957 Ford Thunderbird) from the new Aronde P60 but stiil with the back end of the previous generation of Aronde estates.

- It has a four-speed manual gearbox, two SU HIF 6 carburettors, and rear wheel drive.
- The bodywork was constructed of phosphate-treated steel (to improve paint adhesion) and with heavy use of undercoating and anti-corrosive oil treatment.
- In order to circumvent export regulations, the 140 Series were also shipped to Gent (Belgium) as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) and assembled in VOLVO plant in Gent.
- They were also built in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada (Volvo Halifax Assembly), in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and in Shah Alam, Malaysia (SMA).
- But all 145 units were built at the VOLVO plant in Torslanda, Sweden.
- The 140 series proved to be tough cars with many survivors.
