This painting caught my eye as I passed the Boathouse Gallery in the charming port town of Kinsale on the Atlantic in southern Ireland. It was a sort of “grab” shot with my iPhone through the shop window. I really liked the painting, but didn’t think a lot about it until I looked at it more closely a few weeks later in Photoshop on the computer. Wonderful color and detail by the artist, and very sharp results from the phone through the window glass, no less. I thought it deserved posting to Flickr, but I could hardly take credit for this delightful work of art and not give this talented artist his due credit. With help from the Boathouse Gallery, I learned that the artist is Dublin's own Vincent Smith – an award winning artist who specializes in land and seascapes in oil on canvas. If you're so inclined, you can see more of his work at: www.vincentsmithart.com/. Sláinte, Vincent!

Using my iPhone 17 ProMax for closeups and am quite pleased with the result. More dahlias to come…

and their mom, of course. Brit lops have grown in numbers in recent years, but the breed is still listed as endangered. The large, white pig is named for its large ears that hang over its face. This family was found at the Hay Farm and Heavy Horse Center, Etal, Scotland.

I was fortunate enough to bring the husband last night to witness Jason Isbell perform an acoustic masterclass at the Warner Theater in Washington, D.C. This is my third time seeing Isbell, but this time was perhaps the most magical as he played new unreleased songs from his upcoming album, Foxes in the Snow, along with some favorites from albums past. The rawness and vulnerability of the music was apparent given the tumultuous past year of his life.

I don't take for granted special moments like these, witnessing an all-time great rooted squarely in their prime.

This is a miniature scent bottle, shaped like an antique chemists bottle. It is approx 2.75 inches tall (including stopper) and as the stopper is removable I have part filled it with small glass beads.

The shade of blue and shape appeals to me.

ABOUT OUR PUB

Built on the harbour front in the 1700's, the name derives from being the first place spices from around the world landed. We were historically located just outside the gates of old Portsmouth thus was lawless and home to press gangs for Nelson's Navy. Having just survived the ‘Blitzkrieg' in WWII, you can still find us with the best view in the heart of historic Portsmouth.”

Louie is growing by leaps and bounds. He's eyeing my glass of wine as if he might actually want some, but that might stunt is growth. We're just sitting here in dank, dark, drab NEOhio waiting for the total solar eclipse in five days (about 3 p.m., April 8). Weather forecasts are not encouraging. But if it's half decent, I might travel an hour or so to a point of totality for a photo op of a lifetime (and something not feline).

In the arid, rocky Mesopotamian countryside, near the famous ancient worship site of Gobekliteke, Turkey, I photographed this mule wearing an old carry pack. Mules (donkey-horse hybrids) are still used to carry loads in this area. Their use as pack animals goes as far back as 2000 BCE and they were widely used on the old Silk Road, which goes through this area, for their ability to carry heavy loads in rough mountainous terrain.

“The Still & West is a stunning Grade II listed pub in Old Portsmouth, where smart modern style mingles with traditional nautical charm. Promising fine food and drink and sublime views over the Solent, it’s a special place to relax at the water’s edge.

Overlooking the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour, we've got one of the best locations on the south coast. Handy for the M275 and also on many popular walking routes, the Still & West is just a stone's throw from the bright lights and maritime world of Portsmouth.”
